Game Summary
When it comes to the preseason, it’s the starters and rookies who matter most, and the starters did as well as they could. Both the offensive and defensive starters got two drives each, and the offense scored two touchdowns to go with two punts forced by the defense.
The backups weren’t as dominant, giving up a touchdown to a mix of starters and backups to make it 14-7 at half.
The 2nd half was all backups, and it was more of a defensive struggle. The Chiefs added a field goal early in the 3rd to expand the lead, and while Washington scored a 4th quarter touchdown to make it close Chris Lammons got a late interception that set the offense up inside the 10 yard line. The resulting touchdown was a bit awkward but the 7 points put the game out of reach.

Fortson and Karlaftis are the big winners today – Fortson is a great red zone target and Karlaftis had the best sack that I have seen in years.
Fortson was coming on strong last year. I’m hoping he stays healthy. The guy can ball out.

I find it hard to believe we don’t have a decent RB in this group. IMO it’s blocking.
Well, part of it is that the running game is a game of attrition. Seems like the offensive line was going thru the motions on the run blocking.
Andy has never put an emphasis on run blocking in the preseason. That is how guys get hurt.
Then he must have already made his decision on who’s staying. If not, how do you know who can hit the holes without trying to run. This is a passing offense, so you guys are probably right. Sure do like our passing game, they look dialed in.
Our starting line was a nasty, mauling oline last year. I’m going to go out on a limb and say they’re likely just taking it easy for the preseason.

CEH, Pacheco, Gore, and McKinnon plus Burton are going to be the RBs on the final 53 with Fleet-Davis on the PS. I could see them keeping just 3 HBs but that is playing with fire.
I don’t see Gore making the roster. With a deep TE room and a deep WR room the numbers don’t add up.

Toub has loved a bunch of players that are likely to make the team. Gotta hand it to Reid for keeping special teams stocked with studs.
Andy has always put an emphasis on Special Teams going back to his days in Philly with Harbaugh. Hoodie has kept Matthew Slater and all 266 career yards of him on the roster.
