FYI: Carlos Dunlap Signs With Chiefs

Carlos Dunlap, who made a name for himself as a long-time force for the Bengals on the defensive line, signed with the Chiefs today. While he’s not as dominant as he once was, he still managed a very respectable 8.5 sacks last year with the Seahawks.

But it does make you wonder, is he going to replace Frank Clark or rookie George Karlaftis as a starter, or is he going to be more depth and a rotational player? Regardless, it’s good to have options.

I didn’t think Karlaftis was a starter yet. I thought it was Danna & Clark.

I bet we keep it them, and bring Dunlap and Karlaftis in as frequent rotational pieces.

I think this gives us 3 B level players at end with Danna as a C level. Kaindoh is the wild card. It is a solid unit, but not spectacular.

Does this make him the best DE on our roster?

We don’t need both. Dunlap will play same role as Ingram. He will start with Karlaftis rotating in.Clark will start on other side with Dana rotating in

I personally don’t think Karlaftis is ready to start in NFL. Have you ever watched his college tape?

Yay (I think maybe?) … we shall see

also bringing in Chris Odom (had a good spring with USFL or whatever, never did anything in a few short stops with the NFL, so not too excited about that guy either, at least not yet)

Watching some of his highlights he bats a lot of balls down. Stats back that up too. 69 total in his career. For comparison Von Miller has 22 in his career.

He’s been pretty consistent over the last 5 years, 7 or 8 a year with exception of 4 in 2020, but he switched teams mid year and switched positions, DE to OLB, that year. High was 15 in 2016. Fewer early in his career which suggests an evolution in his style.

Hopefully Frank, because that means the rookie is doing at least okay, but I’ll take any depth

Hopefully it’s just for depth. Seems to me that a rook dline guy should be able to make an impact. We’ll find out soon enough. Would like for this to be Clark’s last year with us.
