A Chiefs’ poem by 3rdnlong – a tribute to former Chiefs TE Jason Dunn
The following comes as a tribute to a former Chief who now is a guest commentator on Chiefs’ podcasts. The thought came when Jason began to follow me on Twitter. I said I should write him a tribute poem, which he liked. So with Jason’s encouragement I present this tribute for him in thanks for all he did and does for the Chiefs.
“Jason Dunn, the Force”
The man, the legend, the unstoppable force.
A solid receiver, a gainer of yards.
Could block D-linemen as a matter of course
And stop pass rushers just like one of the guards.
A first down machine who’d start on the line,
And get just enough using all of his tricks.
A touchdown option who was sneaky at times
As he looked to stay back and then caught for six.
Chorus: This tribute goes out to Jason Dunn,
A legend for the Chiefs back in the day.
He could be serious, or he could be fun,
Giving all his effort on every single play.
His college was the U of Eastern Kentucky
And then Jason went to the NFC East.
Spent 3 years in Philly, then Chiefs got lucky
Coming off injury, J played like a beast.
A blocker. A catcher. For 8 great years,
Dunn wore red and gold as a Chiefs tight end.
When he faced D-lines, he turned up his gears –
An obstacle for rushers, so the Chiefs could contend.
Chorus: This tribute goes out to Jason Dunn,
A legend for the Chiefs back in the day.
He could be serious, or he could be fun,
Giving all his effort on every single play.
Jason played under Gunther, Vermeil and Herm.
An offensive starter during Trent Green’s berth.
And though the stat sheets cannot confirm,
The Chiefs knew Jason had sky-high worth.
Now he’s retired, and doing his own thing.
Jason’s coaching and is a guest on podcasts.
But he still knows the game, and can make the mic sing
As he gives commentary with insight that blasts.
Chorus: This tribute goes out to Jason Dunn,
A legend for the Chiefs back in the day.
He could be serious, or he could be fun,
Giving all his effort on every single play.
