“Heart of Champions”
What does it take?
What does it take to win,
And not just win,
But to win it all?
What does it take to win a ring
That is a one of a kind?
Or a banner, made of material easily found
At any sewing or hobby store,
Yet one that screams victory to the world
And affects every rival who sees it?
What does it take?
This requires the heart of champions.
The heart of champions is seen
When a team that was doubted every step of the way
Finds a way to overcome.
The heart of champions is seen
When the fiercest competition gives it their best,
And still they persist to the glorious end.
The heart of champions is seen
When one fights through adversity and injury,
Gritting his teeth each time he steps on his wounded leg,
And yet still finds the willpower to run
Regardless of how it hurts.
Patrick Mahomes has the heart of champions.
The heart of champions is known
When facing one of the greatest in history,
Those who excelled at their craft
Of taking down the other team’s leader
Better than all but two ever.
And yet, the champions shut them out
And leave their rivals astonished.
Those who rose to that challenge
Have that needed heart.
The Chiefs’ offensive line has the heart of champions.
The heart of champions is felt
When untested men are thrown into the fire,
And despite the odds all being stacked against them,
Rise above it unscorched.
What does it matter if outside observers overlook them?
What does it matter if no one believes?
The champion persists regardless,
Relying on his training, his skill, his instincts
And having the heart to weave them all together
Into a composite whole.
Then, those who were untested have been tested,
And prove victorious.
The Chiefs rookies: Skyy Moore with his 1st career TD,
Karlaftis with the pressure,
McDuffie, J. Williams, Jaylin Watson, Cook who lit up the secondary –
They all stood the test all season, and have the heart of champions.
The heart of champions is there
When a brother takes on his brother he loves.
Winning is bittersweet.
It brings great joys,
But sorrows follow soon after.
For to win means to crush the dreams
Of the one you love.
But a champion realizes this.
He pushes through.
And picks up his brother when the game is done.
Travis Kelce has the heart of a champion.
The heart of champions is clear
In those who have chased a dream for a lifetime,
And who always fell short.
Yet they never gave up.
They kept at it,
Refining their skills
While keeping their heads down
And their noses to grindstones.
Because eventually persistence pays off.
And to those humbled by several previous defeats,
Victory never tasted so sweet.
Dunlap, McKinnon, Schuster, Valdez-Scantling, Brown, Brandon Williams, Justin Reid –
They all have the heart of champions.
The heart of champions is evident
When a man once so maligned,
Who was run out of a town
Hearing nothing but jeers and contempt,
Rises up again.
And with a kind heart,
Speaks nothing ill or hardened against those
Who showed him only grief.
Instead, he speaks well, gives praise where praise is due,
All the while knowing he was more than they said.
And he returns, showing his inner strength,
His wisdom, his skill, his excellence.
Not only does he return.
Not only does he show his face again
To those who once cared less to see it.
But he rises above and is victorious –
Simply because he is that kind of man.
That shows the heart of a champion.
Andy Reid has the heart of a champion.
What does it take?
What does it take to win,
And not just win,
But to win it all?
What does it take to defeat a foe
That no one said could lose?
What does it take?
What does it take?
It takes the heart of champions.
Kansas City Chiefs have the heart of champions.
Super Bowl LVII winners.

My man , sorry I’m late to the party, but that brought a tear to me eye…great way to end the year…. Thanks for all you do here,
Thanks Rip! This means a lot.
I am trying to get another in the works, as a summary of the whole year. Also, because it’s kind of fun and I’m at 39 for the collection and would like to raise it to 40.
Great stuff as per usual!
Thanks, Nas.
I will be trying to get one more just to make it an even 40. Maybe covering big plays throughout the year, that sort of thing.
nicely done!
