Week 14 NFL Power Rankings

The official Arrowhead Guys NFL Power Rankings.

Tier 1: The Super Bowl Contenders

1: Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 1)
2: Baltimore Ravens (Last Week: 2)
3: San Francisco 49ers (Last Week: 3)
4: Philadelphia Eagles (Last Week: 4)

There won’t be many changes this week, as I was 11-0 picking games heading into SNF. Unfortunately I didn’t finish the week perfect.

I’m keeping the Chiefs at the top, as I am very stubborn and my stubbornness has consistently paid off this year. And I think that Love has legitimately improved enough that the Packers are a serious team, so the loss isn’t as bad as it looks on paper.

But this wide receiver issue is getting out of control. Thankfully Rashee Rice has emerged as a legitimate option, but he’s the only receiver on the team that looks like they even belong in the NFL. MVS has regressed hard, while Skyy Moore is just as bad as he was last year. The offseason #1 receiver Toney has been mostly invisible with no 20 yard receiving games since we went to Minnesota 9 weeks ago. If we lose in the playoffs we’re going to regret not trying to get a receiver at the trade deadline.

Tier 2: Playoff Teams

5: Detroit Lions (Last Week: 5)
6: Miami Dolphins (Last Week: 6)
7: Dallas Cowboys (Last Week: 7)
8: Buffalo Bills (Last Week: 8)
9: Green Bay Packers (Last Week: 12)

Every time Love plays well I move the Packers up in the rankings, and they finally arrived at about where I had them in the offseason. The stats don’t do the game he had justice because the long drives burned so much clock, but he was able to score on our defense unlike anybody else has. You could argue part of that was the injuries piling up, which is fair, but his other games have proven this wasn’t a fluke.

10: Seattle Seahawks (Last Week: 9)
11: Houston Texans (Last Week: 10)
12: Jacksonville Jaguars (Last Week: 11)

This is why I’ve been down on the Jaguars compared to everybody else for a while. They are in theory a contender, but they let Jake Browning beat them up. I wouldn’t be completely surprised if the Texans ended up winning the division when it’s all said and done.

I do expect Lawrence to not miss any games though, but if his injury ends up being serious they could end up missing the playoffs.

Tier 3: Meh

13: Los Angeles Chargers (Last Week: 13)
14: Las Vegas Raiders (Last Week: 14)
15: Atlanta Falcons (Last Week: 15)
16: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last Week: 16)
17: Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 17)

The Chargers had more punts than points yet still managed to beat the Patriots. I doubt that type of victory is going to help Brandon Staley keep his job.

Tier 4: The Less-Than-Good Teams

18: Los Angeles Rams (Last Week: 18)
19: Arizona Cardinals (Last Week: 19)
20: Indianapolis Colts (Last Week: 22)
21: Cincinnati Bengals (Last Week: 24)
22: Denver Broncos (Last Week: 25)
22: Pittsburgh Steelers (Last Week: 20)
23: New Orleans Saints (Last Week: 21)

25: Tennessee Titans (Last Week: 23)

A promotion for Denver despite the loss. Don’t be fooled, their win streak was a complete fluke. But they played the Texans tough, so I’ll bump them up a tier.

Tier 5: The Terrible Teams

26: New York Giants (Last Week: 26)
27: New York Jets (Last Week: 27)
28: Washington Commanders (Last Week: 28)
29: Cleveland Browns (Last Week: 29)
30: Chicago Bears (Last Week: 30)
31: New England Patriots (Last Week: 31)
32: Carolina Panthers (Last Week: 32)

The Jets finally figured out that a guy who had a 1/12 TD/INT ratio in college wasn’t the type of guy you want leading your NFL team, so now they’re apparently wanting Zach Wilson to start again but Wilson is tired of being benched so he’s refusing to play.

Totally normal stuff going on in New York. And people wonder why they haven’t gone to the Super Bowl since the moon landing?

Sure did.

So – I got a question. We’ve got a bunch of millionaire athletes that were amongst the best available the year they graduated from college. Presumably as local stars. They show (have shown) occasional flashes of competence in the NFL and yet for some reason they can’t hold on to a (near) perfect pass, they can’t run a consistent route and sometimes don’t even seem to know what the play call actually means for them.
Why? Is it the coaching? Poor drafting/free agent analysis?
I mean – I get why you get busts at QB because of the complexity and speed of the game at the NFL level. Similarly for whoever is running the defence on the field. Even the center who has to call out the defensive posture. But WR that don’t seem capable of the basics?? Where are we going wrong here?

We’ve seen that Andy Reid generally doesn’t play rookie WR’s that much. The general consensus is that his offense is super complex and hard to learn, especially for WR’s. Precise route-running and timing is key, as well as what to do when Mahomes scrambles, which he does a lot.

At work, I do programming. One of the major issues is overly complicated spaghetti code. It often needs to be greatly simplified in order to make sense and also make it manageable for anyone looking at it down the line.

I feel that, if what I’m saying is true about the offense, then maybe it is on Andy Reid to simplify things so our WR’s can understand wtf they are supposed to be doing.

I also feel it’s on Andy Reid and Matt Nagy to use his WR’s talents in the correct way. Maybe Skyy Moore should be in the slot and not outside. Maybe MVS should run some more short crossing routes instead of only using him for long bombs. Maybe we could also utilize our TE2 and TE3 more often than once or twice per game.

In my opinion, it’s on Andy Reid. If his WR’s can’t do what he’s asking, then he needs to adjust rather than jamming square pegs in round holes.

then too, maybe sometimes the D shows one look but (zone) then does something else (man) … maybe?

as MasterChief noted: it’s complicated

I was pretty sure Lawrence had just a “high ankle sprain”.

It’s amazing that we have such a glaring single weakness that is holding us back from being great, and that it could have been addressed multiple times.

I might put us at 7th place this week. I don’t think we’re the best team this year.

agreed … I think Tony’s trolling us (and it DOES seem to be working) … I mean, nobody can possibly think the Chiefs are “the best team in the league” right now

Phins and Boys need to be below us. Beat the Phins, and the Boys are frauds

I agree with that one.

by your logic, the Lions beat the Chiefs and therefore are a “better team” or whatever … no, this is “the eye test” as of right now, and right now (according to who beat who) the Packers and Eagles are both better than KC *cough*

respectfully agree to disagee

I agree. Regardless of opinions on the Cowboys, it seems like they put up 40+ a lot. Kinda reminds me of Chiefs teams the past few years. We put up 40 only once this season against Tony’s 30th ranked team.

Chiefs are a playoff contender for sure. We have Mahomes and a damn good defense. Those things give us a chance, but we definitely aren’t the best out there right now.

absolutely a playoff team and AFCW champs once again, of that I have no doubt

Fortunately “right now” only involves a playoff birth. We’ll see how these other teams respond to elimination games. Our guys seem to respond accordingly.

one game at a time, one play at a time … ain’t over til it’s over (and it ain’t over by any means)

We tend to beat the chiefs more than the other teams do.

Unfortunately we seem to be making a habit of it. It would be nice if someone could change things so that we didn’t do that.

tbh, any of the 10 that I listed can beat anyone else on that list … but only by playing their very best in all phases of the game
