Tuesday Night O/T: Texans finally request interview with Bieniemy, is it an attempt to make Watson happy?
146 repliesUntil the Eagles fired Pederson, the news around Bieniemy was that every team with a head coach vacancy requested an interview with him except the Texans, despite him being at the top of Deshaun Watson’s wishlist. Then after a week of stories that Watson was angry and speculation that he might demand a trade we get this.
The #Texans have officially requested an interview with #Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, source said. Already a busy candidate, Bieniemy adds another to his list.

And that got some handsome sports bloggers wondering.
An attempt to mend the relationship with Watson? https://t.co/k45MdGwBwx

Or perhaps they’re just incompetent.
Houston essentially started its search over the past few days when GM Nick Caserio was hired. They previously interviewed Jim Caldwell and Marvin Lewis, and have requests in for David Culley (#Ravens) and Leslie Frazier (#Bills). Now, Eric Bieniemy. https://t.co/q2WDkhxCpq

Is Watson good enough of a QB to be barking orders? I don’t think he is
Is that what he’s done, though? You don’t know. This is all rumors and conjecture, absent a definitive statement by one of the principles involved.
Far be it from me to trust reporting by the media these days. Saying that, I have heard this report from multiple sources. But it was an open thought on the subject whether it is accurate or not .
Rather, you heard it from multiple outlets. The sources involved are likely one or two people who hinted at things, and were talking about workplace rumors. That has little to do with the journalists involved, and a lot to do with how trustworthy their info is.
In this case, I’d say not enough to draw any firm conclusions, but then few put any stock in my opinion that Andy Reid doesn’t conveniently lie to validate the beliefs of fans who see hidden narratives behind him.
My opinion is there is enough smoke there for me to believe it. Could it be bullshit? Very possibly. But I lean toward believing the story
Not me. Where there is smoke, there may well be mirrors, too – especially if you bring some of your own in the unthought-about belief that they will help you see through the smoke. I looked at the likely source of the smoke and considered the sort of person within a team’s organization, discounted official leakers and outright fabricators, and concluded that the smoke was based on what amounts to workplace gossip.
Speculation based on gossip is no basis for a reasonable system of argument. Now stop repressing me, or I shall summon peasants to witness the violence inherent in the system. Or maybe just fart in your general direction.
and both sides will incorporate the feedback
usng any leverae he has,
the fulcrum has moved
Aaron Rodgers wasn’t consulted when the Packers hired their new HC. They even drafted his replacement in the 1st round. And that is Aaron freaking Rodgers. So no, Watson isn’t that good where they have to cater to him.
thier relative sucucess is not the issue re:leverage
maybe it’s all pr bullshit to see which way the wind blows
He is a good enough qb to where the ownership should find a coach that can maximize his abilities. But part of what makes a great qb great, is that he rallies a team, not creates a divide.
I like Watson. I think he is a good QB. But I don’t think he is I get what I want in the front office great. now Patrick Mahomes? You bend over backwards to make him happy. But Watson is no Patrick Mahomes
Strong disagree. Even for a player as talented and frankly transcendent as Mahomes. You seek his input and ensure that whoever is hired can forge a productive and amicable relationship with the face of the franchise but you never allow an organization to be held hostage by one of its constituent parts, no matter how critical a piece that part is.
When Peyton Manning left the Colts it left their franchise in turmoil whilst bringing order to the donkeys. A franchise quarterback is more important than any other personnel.
Manning was also a seasoned vet at the time who had experienced multiple coaching regimes and as such gained insight into the deeper workings of a franchise. I would consider giving a qb like Alex a greater, albeit not final, input before Mahomes at this point in his career.
And the colts followed up a lost year with qbs so shitty i can’t remember their names with a new qb and the start of multiple consecutive division championships the following season while the broncos 5 years later are still in utter disarray.
Disregarding the fact that I think Watson is closer to average than good, i maintain that the only input that matters from a qb is will the coach and qb get along in a professional and amicable manner and can the qb successfully run the kind of offense the coach plans to install.
Coaching requires a multitude of dimensions beyond just the X’s and O’s. It is managerial, temperamental, organizational, and evaluative. Particularly in the NFL given roster size and differentiation of skill sets across position groups. You absolutely have to ensure that your qb and coach can have a productive and amicable relationship, but beyond that there are a variety of other skills that coaches must possess that a QB, particularly a fairly young one like a Mahomes or Watson, is not truly capable of evaluating.
the more things change…
..so i leave it up to you
it starts when you’re always afraid
why should i care..
Down in New Madrid, FWIW.
Nice series. Will have to check it out.
Do you know by chance if 432 Abercorn (Savannah, GA) is profiled? It’s changed hands a number of times but was originally built by Gen. Benjamin Wilson of the Confederacy after the Civil War ended… but of course the story was just beginning…

First time I encountered the channel, so I can’t say. I did see as related an ep of his about Currahee, though.
thank you Andre.
Please pass it on Tony.

Just started on Showtime 🙂
Tale of two QB’s. These are stats from two regular-season matchup’s that the Chiefs have had against one team. Guess the QB’s and the team. One QB is a Chief and the other is the opponent.
20-26, 248 YDS 3 TD, 28/35 368 4 TD’s
14-23, 159 YDS 1 TD 2 INT, 16/36 267 0 TD’s
Is that Rogers numbers against the Bucs?
This is a Chiefs QB vs another QB in two regular-season games against each other. Let me just say that I was shocked when I remembered this.
*I have no idea
Lamar?
Numbers are too good to be Lamar
This is not Mahomes vs Lamar
Alex Smith and Brady?
Yep
Yes!
Makes you wonder what would have happened if Alex had gotten the start when the Washington
RedskinsWTF played the Bucs this past week.I know I was like WTF..
have you seen The History of Swearing yet?
No sir….trying to watch the trailer now
not great but funny, 20 mins each so they don’t get boring.
*should have just posted the sentence i was constucting using the titles*
Absent the calf strain, I can’t say things would have gone a whole lot better with Alex under center, but IMO they’d have been at least slightly better. He’s a proven QB and leader on that team and is prolly liked and/or respected by everyone in the locker room. They had confidence in him, and rightly so, because while they know he can’t carry the team to victory, he can enable the rest of them to help get there more.
Confidence matters in sports, and there’s no quick fix to developing it.
you need to move to a warmer climate.. back to 70 here tomorrow..
Need? Well, since I couldn’t afford to move us to TX, that’s moot. Although if any parent down in the southern side of the place has objections to letting kids play outside after dark might hear an earful about why they expect kids up here to stay inside after 5PM for months on end. 😉
Would people think I’m racist if I got a Caucasians t-shirt?
not if you wear it ironically, maybe 🙂
I want one, although it’d be better if it said Whiteskins in my opinion
Seasonably tan skins ??
I think it was Pryor had the bit…
you’re pink, you sit in the sun and get tan, sit too long you’re red…and you call us colored?
People of color is the official nomenclature of wokeness
people of many colors?
i like that
*variuos
*changing
*indefinite
*veritigrating
not for me, closest I get to tanned is the previous redacted team name
I might order this

Replace the profile head w something equally distinguished and noble as the logo it co-opts

Could just call them the Snyders, and use the guy’s own profile as the logo.
Could be seen as antisemitic
Self-inflicted, doubt many Jews would go beyond that. Besides, they keep being cast as major players in conspiracy theories, not to mention things like the (fraudulent and extremely antisemitic) Protocols of the Elders of Zion, or whatever, since I’m working from memory and the exact title doesn’t matter.
periods are for pussies (see what I did there?)
Yep. I can go with the flow.
Both of you are bloody good at this
That’s a totally different topic, so I decline to offer any opinion, other than Iran has a not-nice gov’t and we lack the power to put a reliably nice one in for them. We tried that before and failed at it.
See the above. I didn’t sign up for this diversion, so if you wish to pontificate about geopolitics, I suggest you start a thread about that instead of involving me, after I had stated I had no interest in your side road.
What you have done is to cast me as unwilling/unable to meet you on this surprise topic, therefore leaving yourself the default winner at my expense. As for your premise here, I suggest you take it up with Mitch Schwartz. The introduction of this twist wasn’t honest, so I decline to discuss it with you until further notice.
edit-nm too fucking late for this

Really? I recall when it meant “I’m done beings sarcastic”, but that goes back to Usenet.

that makes sense to carve out the satirical phrase from a long post.

Good news on the covid front, we’re at the point where more people are getting vaccinated per day than getting infected, even if you count actual infections and not just confirmed.
Daily update, by State:
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
I like this site for estimating actual infections. It’s 2 weeks behind (because it takes that long to see what’s actually happening), but it gives a good sense of where we truly are.
https://covid19-projections.com/#view-projections
I’ll be getting mine just as soon as I’m able to, and flu as well. If I die or develop autism, anti-vaxx Luddites can celebrate.
We recently witnessed what comes of believing in conspiracy theories, but I doubt they’ll be any less popular, let alone less tolerated. I mean, when the price on a CT is no heavy thinking and a reason to embrace cognitive biasing as a way of life, it’s a pretty attractive deal, especially as you’ll find plenty of folks to help reinforce you in your efforts to focus only on that which proves your belief. That always feels good.
Eeesh.
I found out that because I’m an IT field tech, I’m in group 1A for covid vaccinations because I go into patient care areas. That’s pretty nice. I need to get that scheduled.
I’m not holding my breathe. I’m sure I’m behind people in prison and the homeless in the priority order.
55 – nicely done 🙂
32 – nicely done!
Is Taco trying to tell Chiefs fans something? – posted today
That would be huge if he is back
CEH asking about a: 2 fast, 2 furious movie
a Raiders fan replied to him on Twitter
Fuck the raiders, each and every last one of them…
I’m going 2 fast 2 furious here. But agree Browns game film would pretty nice too.
2 Fast 2 Furious is the worst movie in that whole franchise.
I agree but I celebrate the whole franchise. I couldn’t even understand the one dudes phony accent in that Ford movie. Turned that shit off 30 minutes in.
Maybe this is a new upcoming 15 commercial?
well I have seen a few of those Head and Shoulders commercials already

EB: “umm, I’m good”
but string them along for the next month, delaying their search, especially after the hit piece their beat writer wrote the other day
There is a common theme in the candidates. I really hope they are looking for the best coach and not just a P.R. win.

Wtf was Watson upset about?
owner hired GM without asking for his input
also, HOU owner was NOT planning on interviewing EB — owner will interview EB after Chiefs win SB.
Why would EB want to be part of that shit show HOU?
Owner, D. Hopkins wanted out…..JJ Watt wants out – TBD on Watson
I don’t want the NFL turning into the NBA when it comes to deferring to the star players about personnel and coaching decisions.
I’m with you to a point. The Texans promised Watson that they would bring him in on the decision though, so that’s really their fault.
It sorta irks me that players think they should have input on coach hiring, let alone GM hiring. With coaches i can see it insofar as is important for the face of the franchise to have a good working relationship with the coach since a) they spend so much time together and b) x’s and o’s knowledge qbs possess overlaps.
But the GM role is personnel evaluation and critically cap management and neither of those are skills that an NFL qb would have the time to really develop an elite level understanding of.
Exactly.. it irked me as well..
In the Texans case, though, it’s a bit of a unique situation. Because I think Watson knows that he couldn’t possibly have been worse at a GM than BOB was, “elite level understanding” or not.
BTW: I’ll in be San Diego (this Wed & Thursday) for a quick 27 hour trip. Cali a MESS for covid 3m cases. I had to sign a waiver to stay @ a hotel. Hotels are not supposed to accept travelers…..even if essential travelers, like myself.
