78 – Slipknot

77 – (TIE) Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed

76 – Pearl Jam

75 – Dave Grohl

74 – Neil Young

73 – Lou Reed

72 – Van Morrison

71 – The Cranberries

Commentary: GNR imploded and drops on the list.  I tried with some of the more modern groups.  Megadeth and Slayer tied cause I do not know one from the other but know they are significant.  Slipknot made it cause they are my son’s favorite group and it takes balls to perform like they do.  I picked Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed cause I actually know and like a song they do – Hail to the King and Sound of Silence respectively.  Feel free to throw in more newer bands cause there is only one left to come.  I read that Pearl Jam had been around for awhile so I picked them.  I know who Dave Grohl is – he sings and plays with everyone out there – and he is probably the only new person that I know and recognize.  I really tried to give respect here so be nice.  Young, Reed, and Morrison are what legends are made of.  Surprise pick at #71 – Dolores O’Riordan was something special so The Cranberries make their appearance.  Have fun with the comments.

Slipknot?! Get outta here didn’t realize screaming into a microphone rocked. There’s no way in hell they should’ve made this list let alone ahead of the doobies…

Just my take but, I think you are missing out on influence and artistic accomplishment. GnR put out 5 albums in 20 years and a lot of those songs were covers. Cranberries put out 9 in 25 years. I don’t believe any of those groups influenced many others. The Sex Pistols had influence but a limited discography. I’d bet you don’t have the Poques nor Shane McGowan, Tom Waits, Humble Pie, Lowell George and Little Feat, Gram Parsons, nor Steely Dan. Parson’s influence is seen with artist like the Eagles, Ryan Adams, Emmy Lou Harris, Cowboy Junkies and present day country music. The Dan’s influence can be seen in how many times Rap artist sample their music and 7 albums in 9 years is an extraodinary discography. With some of the best lead guitar riffs ever written in pop songs. I’ll close with one of the best (Jimmy Page thinks it is) Elliot Randall’s nasty tone on Reelin In the Years

If there is only 1 modernish band left to come I am assuming it will be Nirvana, which leaves a load of bands off the list. Green Day, Shinedown, Foo Fighters (which I know you just used Dave Grohl), Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine and many many more. I really do understand there are only 100 slots so not everyone can be on it, but our lists are going to be massively different.
