The Chiefs Select D-2 Cornerback Joshua Williams in the 4th Round
27 repliesIt’s day 3 of the draft and it’s becoming harder (although not impossible) to find top talent, and sometimes that means going to the small schools. Williams is from Fayetteville State, and is another addition to what is now a crowded defensive back room.
Do You Agree With This Pick?
“One of the premier small-school prospects in this class. Height/weight/athleticism combo. Speed is a little lacking. Mirrored outstandingly in college. Will face steep learning curve in terms of talent he’ll face. Chiefs had to add more CB talent. (Chris Trapasso)”
Grade B+
It’s hard to find a lot on him, but from what I watched he certainly looks like an NFL player among D2 guys. At this point in the draft I think that sort of lottery pick is great. He may be out of the league in 2 years, or he may be in the HOF.
I think he’s a drop-in replacement for Ward.
That’d be nice, especially since we also have McDuffie who should be pretty good.
Yeah, this tall guy should be strictly outside CB, and McDuffie should be able to play all over the place.
First guy that doesn’t have a nasty side to him. Definitely can’t say that Veach didn’t try to improve the defense.
He can hit….
What I mean is that all of the other picks were heat seeking missiles.
Every group needs a laid-back guy or two. Can’t have 53 berserkers.
That would be nice if we could.
Best line I’ve read over this draft coverage.
I like this pick a lot. Long, tall CB with decent speed and excellent athleticism. Should be able to replace everything Ward did plus a higher ceiling.
Dane Brugler’s #12 CB prospect, 3rd round grade.
We have now replace Ward, HB (at least physically, not counting the leadership skills), and upgraded on Sorensen.
Suddenly our secondary could be a strength.
Now if we can develop a pass rush
BUT we have Frank Clark – oh shit – I keep forgetting
Wow, what a great interview. Didn’t know anything about him…..now rootin’ for him hard!
He ran shuttle and 3-cone at his pro-day. SS time was meh at 4.47s, not great but also not bad for a guy with his height/build. But 3-cone time (which I think is extremely important for DBs) was excellent at 6.95s.
He’ll be super interesting to watch. It feels like anything is possible with him. He could be a huge bust, or he might take a year or two to develop but then turn into a really good player, or he might come in and dominate immediately.
He has all the physical ability. If he’s got a decent competitive nature, then he should be fine.
Supposedly one of the top small school prospects
Really going all-in on defense this year.
Needed big time.. our defense was really dismal down the stretch
Now add some more beef to the D-line and I think I’ll be happy with this draft.
Not going to lie, I’ve started thinking about what FA DT’s are still available.

Some interesting older guys if we’re just looking for a one to two year rental on a friendly deal. Not overly familiar with the younger guys.
