NFL Draft Day 3 Open Thread!
257 repliesWelcome to Draft Day #3!
The draft is almost over, as we’ve gotten to the picks that are more like lottery picks. Right now, the Chiefs have 6 picks today. One in the 4th, one in the 5th, and four in the 7th. I’d be surprised if they actually made 6 picks today, so look for some trades to go down.

Hey all! Just got internet back after the storms last night. We’re all ok. It went 2 miles from where I live now. But… it was 800′-1,000′ from where my old house was. If I was Mahomes I could have thrown a rock and hit the YMCA that got hit. Sounds like just stuff demolished. Hell, I was a bit south in Rose Hill mowing and the alert and sirens went off. I did what most Kansans do. Went to the porch and looked around. Told the MIL to hit the basement and headed home. If I hadn’t looked at her dryer that’s acting up I probably would have been in it’s path or close to it. I got a picture of it as I was heading home. April 26th marked the 31st anniversary of the 1991 Andover tornado which killed 17 people. I would have been in it’s path too if Pizza Hut had answered the phone for my order. Instead we went home and it rumbled by a short time later. Just checking in. Now back to football……
I have no problem with this draft, except for Edge…..but they must believe that Kaindoh is coming along and will be a force this year. Kaindoh’s issues outside of injury was FSUs incredibly bad coaching from the HC all the way down to the position and strength coaches. That staff was incredibly dysfunctional.
and there goes my guy to the Bills of all team. Damn it
Hate them.
Of course the weakness to this draft, we added just one Dlineman. One pick to address what our GM specifically said was a huge need.
I like all these new players, and most of the fits, but that neglect of the Dline is a glaring error.
you keep forgetting The Return of Ingram 😉
maybe
That’s not an improvement though, it’s just status quo. Hey, that rhymes.
He was letting his board do the talking. If you tried to you wouldn’t ever be able to mock this draft to the Chiefs.
you got it
aggressive when warranted, playing it cool when he could … Veach is good
Not a single reach as far as I can tell.
Draft Scouting Report:
Rating: 85.27 (Long-term starter)
Pro Comparison: Denzelle Good
Strengths:
Versatility to play guard or tackle. Spent a good portion of his career in a run-heavy scheme and is more developed in run blocking. Long arms. Strong upper body. Quick first step. Does a good job of sealing blocks. Good mobility to make plays in space. Has great torque through his lower body. Great independent hand usage.
Weaknesses:
Below average top-end speed and explosive traits for a tackle. Hand placement must improve. Balance is a concern because he will lunge and lean on defenders in the run game. Has trouble engaging in space. Can do a better job of sinking his hips to absorb contact. Has limited flexibility on high side rushes.
Accolades:
lots of upside, developmental guy who can Run Block but needs a lot of improvement in Pass Block (before Mahomes will let him play)
Now a long wait. We have 3 7ths left, so barring a major trade up it’s going to be an hour or two before the Chiefs pick again.
Yep, lunchtime.
I think Kinnard’s a great pick here.
He was a monster at Kentucky and actually a little surprised he was there for us.

A+ Grade
Two A+ grades to begin Round 5! Darian Kinnard has good athleticism for a big offensive lineman, so I thought he’d go in the third round. This is great value, though it’s worth noting that there are injury concerns. Still, there’s barely any risk in Round 5.
Not Faalele’s size but he is a pretty big dude – love this pick
CB, Edge, WR, S, LB, CB, OL
yes?
CB, Edge, WR, S, LB, CB, OL, ST, ST, ST
Nice pick….that dude is big.
now we know where the beef is, and the pork and the venison …
Oh Nice. Nice pick here

Well there is your swing tackle.
Oh man, we got the huge OG!
Convert to RT, maybe?
I think he is playing RT.
I think you think right.
Sure he is not slotted for RT?
maybe
Maybe they move Smith to RT which is what I wanted the whole time
That would be interesting. I thought his best ability last year was pulling, could he still do that from RT?
I wouldn’t hate him at G but he is backup at best there with Thuney and Smith there unless they move Thuney to RT.
Yeah I bet he is. I’ve got Brugler’s book open, and he has him listed as a OG, so that’s why I assumed. But hope he gets a shot at RT.
yay? raw but massive … insurance for the O-Line
good haul for the weekend (with UDFA’s and what, 3 latelatelate still to go?)
most of us should be happy campers (and so glad not another WR)
Unless they package those 3 latelatelate’s to get a 6th or something, not sure what they’re worth.
Looking like a solid draft for us this year. Look forward to seeing the new guys on the field.
udfa’s pretty much, only without some of the hassle
Please be Shakir
PICK IS IN!
Sam Howell is finally off the board.
Sam Howell gone. WE’RE UP!!
Love it!
!!!
So that leaves the Chiefs with 3 picks in the 7th. Wouldn’t be surprised to see those used on guys they want in UDFA.
Yeah, that is our priority UDFA class right there.
Yep. I am OK with burning 7th round picks on UDFA types.
Veach had his eye on someone when we got that pick from the PATS – who will it be?
Veach must really like someone that’s still on the board.
WOW, Seattle got zero value in that deal
They really value UDFAs. Figure they wanted the 7th for a guy they weren’t sure they could sign off the street.
