NFL Draft Day 3 Open Thread Part 2!
142 repliesWelcome to Draft Day #3!
The Chiefs have made their first two selections of the day, but now we’re in for a long wait until they pick again in the 7th round barring something crazy. Personally I’m hoping they can package a couple of them together to move up again.
One last draft thread.

Thomas to the Browns….
Round Seven Is Here!
Houston to the Lions
So he did get drafted. Happy for him.
I think the first fullback just went off the board.
sigh So much for getting the best FB in the draft.
FB? We already have one.
One can dream.
You’ve been hanging around Ups way too much.
Holy shit. You might be right.
I like Burton. One thing I am glad is Andy didn’t abandon the position after Sherman retired.
Picks 243, 251, and 259
James Houston Edge
Isiah Thomas Edge
And punter for Fox
sounds good
I am surprised Houston is still on the board.
Houston is small for an Edge and isn’t a distinctive LBer, but he has the tools to rush the passer.
Could be similar to Big Cat was back in the day.
I’m watching a safety, Verone McKinley, who is very much a honey badger type. Timed slow and average size, but played really well and aggressive at Oregon. I know we already got a bunch of DBs, but this guy could be really good.
He’s getting passed over now because this part of the draft is all about measurables. Could drop all the way out of the 7th.
I’m all for adding aggressiveness and flexibility to the defense.
So I just watched Cincy vs ND and they had Cook playing single high quite a bit. Not the best use of his talents.
BTW, instead of 3 separate posts for the 7th round picks I’m just going to put them all in one unless the crowd disagrees.
more continuity that way. Our conversations are not broken up
Was just thinking this.
Agreed. And could you pin a multi-day post for UDFA updates?
Sure, that’s a good idea.
We’re at pick 200, just 43 more to go until the Chiefs are up again.
how many minutes per pic?
Isn’t it 5 at this point? So if they all use all their time we’re still 3.5 hours away.
I…think it’s probably going a little faster than 5. Probably more like 1.5.
27 minutes later, we’re at 212.
Wait, what? No. NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
The Ravens run continues.
Well at least he didn’t go to an AFC West opponent. But still. Fuck.
Please announce you’re signing Ingram, so I can be totally happy with this weekend.
Is there anybody better than Ingram still available as a free agent or trade bait
No. Which is why I’m getting pretty crabby about their “solutions” to this lack of pass rush problem. Frank Clark is still part of their solution…and that is a bad solution.
you know, I like the idea that Karlaftis comes in and plays well, which frees up Jones and Clark. I beleive Clark was not well, physically and towards the end of the season he was coming on a little better than earlier in the season. If he can build on that he might “show-up” this year
He first came to KC with elbow and gastro-intestinal issues. He hasn’t trended overall healthier with more time getting beaten up by NFL players, which makes sense because no human does.
It would be a nice surprise if he reverses trend this season, but not something to count on.
I can’t thin of one, which makes me wonder about the lack of urgency in the draft. Are they thinking the problem is our coverage sucks so bad that the line never gets the chance to ally pressure?
Sure hope not, because that isn’t the case. Ingram completely turned the DLine around last year. I mean it took an older player from another team to put a fire in that line. Pretty sad actually.
Well, partly his skills, plus putting Jones’ skills back at DT where he dominates.
To be honest, not all that happy with Jones right now. Don’t know if it’s conditioning or what, but he seems to check out occasionally.
kinda like your brain
Ah, the head nut from the peanut gallery chimes in. 😁
Gus, don’t be the night your dad fell asleep in your mom.
Projecting again?
Gus, don’t be this crevice in my arm.
Gus, don’t be a pebble in my shoe.
Twice, actually. Suggs did that, too
Troof
LOL
So no 3 for 1 trade-up yet, huh … I’m a go back to sleep
Well Jayhawks fans can say that they had a player drafted before the Tigers.
They can? I thought a couple Mizzou guys have already gone.
Akayleb Evans.
All the good players must of been gone. 🙂
Darian Kinnard OL, UKHeight: 6-5, Weight: 322
Big, physical specimen who rocks in the run game but has a ways to go to become a good pass protector. Length is there but balance and hand work is not. High upside selection. (Chris Trapasso)
Draft Scouting Report:
Rating: 85.27 (Long-term starter)
Pro Comparison: Denzelle Good
Strengths:
Versatility to play guard or tackle. Spent a good portion of his career in a run-heavy scheme and is more developed in run blocking. Long arms. Strong upper body. Quick first step. Does a good job of sealing blocks. Good mobility to make plays in space. Has great torque through his lower body. Great independent hand usage.
Weaknesses:
Below average top-end speed and explosive traits for a tackle. Hand placement must improve. Balance is a concern because he will lunge and lean on defenders in the run game. Has trouble engaging in space. Can do a better job of sinking his hips to absorb contact. Has limited flexibility on high side rushes.
Accolades:
Orlando Brown?
Kansas City Chiefs: Darian Kinnard, OT, Kentucky – A+ Grade
Two A+ grades to begin Round 5! Darian Kinnard has good athleticism for a big offensive lineman, so I thought he’d go in the third round. This is great value, though it’s worth noting that there are injury concerns. Still, there’s barely any risk in Round 5.

4/26/22: Kinnard looks like he trimmed weight in 2021, appearing quicker and more athletic in space. He has a good skill set and a nasty attitude. Kinnard put together an excellent 2021 season as a reliable pass protector and a bull in the ground game. Along with being a right tackle at the next level, Kinnard could be a tough guard. Kinnard had some highlight-reel plays and some lowlights at the Senior Bowl. Team sources said Kinnard was not coachable in Mobile and did not interview well at the combine.

.
That last sentence just ruined the pick for me. Son of a…
Well, it is WalterFootball
Take it with skepticism
Well if he’s “not coachable” then he won’t make it through the first cuts on this team.
Can we just trade all our 7ths for 6ths next year? If we draft no other players this year I am super content with the picks. I’m speaking about position because I know very little to nothing about these players haha!
I would still REALLY like to see some more numbers thrown at pass rush cause it SUCKS right now and Karlaftis is not a fix.
Fair enough. Are there guys that make sense that won’t be there as UDFAs?
Has Ingram signed somewhere as yet? I’d be happy with him coming back. Also, still could trade after some team drafted pass rushers real high.
I’d love to do that. We’d need somebody to take it but I’d rather have the picks next year right now since we already have so many this year.
Get to where we start with 12 + picks every year forever and dynasty status will be much easier to attain.
Maybe waiting to see if a few more fallers come into range first, like SCKS’ guy Isaiah Thomas.
Joshua Williams CB, FASTHeight: 6-3, Weight: 195
One of the premier small-school prospects in this class. Height/weight/athleticism combo. Speed is a little lacking. Mirrored outstandingly in college. Will face steep learning curve in terms of talent he’ll face. Chiefs had to add more CB talent. (Chris Trapasso)
Draft Scouting Report:
Rating: 78.53 (Chance to start)
Pro Comparison: Justin Layne
Strengths:
Dominated Division II competition where he had three interceptions and nine passes defended during the 2021 season that earned him a Senior Bowl invite, where he more than held his own against some of the best players in the country. At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Williams, who ran a 4.53 40 at the combine, is the type of big corner who can match up against physical, fast NFL wideouts. He gets out of his back pedal like a much smaller cornerback, and breaks on the ball with urgency. He has ball skills, as evidenced by his interceptions, and has the ability to make plays at the catch point against bigger NFL receivers.
Weaknesses:
Level of competition will be a concern, but one that can be mitigated by his performance at the Senior Bowl. Sometimes struggles to shed blockers, and his technique at the top of the route can be sloppy at times, but that should all improve with NFL coaching.
Accolades:
Who TF is Justin Layne?
Current Steelers CB.
Kansas City Chiefs: Joshua Williams, WR, Fayetteville State – A Grade
I’m a big fan of this pick for the Chiefs. They really needed to shore up their ailing secondary, so another defensive back pick makes sense. Joshua Williams is someone I had mocked in the third round on some occasions, so I love this value.
WalterFootball —
4/27/22: Williams had a quality season for Fayetteville State and earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl. He did not stand out in Mobile, but he was not abused either.
7/17/21: Williams played well enough in 2018 and 2019 to earn a spot on NFL teams’ preseason watch list for the 2022 NFL Draft. In 2019, he recorded 32 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. Williams is tall and has some quickness. He could help himself by impressing at an all-star game.

There goes Fox’s punter to Buffalo.
I was hoping for him too. Townsend ain’t it.
Can’t expect to go from GOAT to GOAT.
Except at TE, kinda.
Bills can kiss my nut sack
Better yours than mine.
Is Edge James Houston still on the board?
Yes.
Reminds me of Trent Cole at Philly with Reid similar size and athleticism.
