Good morning Chiefs Kingdom! Grab yourself a cup o’ Joe and get in the Huddle!

Chiefs news for May 17, 2022

Jump to Tweets | Jump to comments

Good morning AG! Today in Chiefs history, Tim Grunhard was born in 1968 and Matt Cassel in 1982…

And on a personal note, this is my last huddle, and likely the last time I visit AG for a while. I come to this site to talk Chiefs, have some chuckles and whatnot. Lately I’ve consistently encountered people posting political stuff. I was more than happy to help provide content for a Chiefs site, and made my feelings known that I felt political discussions belong on a political site rather than this. I was shot down, so am left with no choice. I’m not going to be part of a football site that takes part in pushing a political agenda for either side. If I wanted to see the democratic talking points, I’d go to CNN, not Arrowhead Guys. So it was a fun ride, albeit shorter than I preferred – I wish you all good health and a good season.

Best remaining free agent edge rushers for Chiefs | usatoday

Should the team look to add a defensive end in free agency, here is a look at the best remaining players available to them:

3 UDFAs most likely to make Chiefs’ 53-man roster | usatoday

If you can play football at a high level, the coaching staff and front office won’t be overly concerned with draft status. The Chiefs have a history of finding diamonds in the rough every year in undrafted free agency. In years past they’ve uncovered players like Daniel Sorensen, Darrel Williams, Tershawn Wharton, Tommy Townsend and more.

The 2022 90-man roster will be highly competitive, which should make things particularly hard for this UDFA class. This year they signed a total of 10 undrafted free agents (six on offense, four on defense) to round out their 90-man offseason roster

Chiefs now projected to have 12 draft picks in 2023 NFL draft | usatoday

The Chiefs hold all seven of their own 2023 NFL draft picks, but they also have fourth and sixth-round draft picks from the Dolphins in the Tyreek Hill trade. They were previously projected to receive two compensatory picks in 2023 as well, but they’ve now added a third compensatory pick to the equation after Melvin Ingram signed with Miami.

CBS Sports’ Nate Burleson on why Chiefs’ Travis Kelce would be a natural as broadcaster | yahoo

https://sports.yahoo.com/cbs-sports-nate-burleson-why-150010208.html

“Kelce knows the game inside and out, so he would be just as smooth in the booth as he is on the field!” Burleson wrote. “Also, he has a great sense of humor, which means the viewers would be thoroughly entertained all game long.”

The Kansas City Chiefs Draft Class is great for the future | si.com

https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/gm-report/the-chiefs-2022-draft-class-could-open-a-new-window

If the Chiefs’ universally praised 2022 draft class lives up to its billing, Kansas City will be sitting pretty. With the team’s top three picks coming at premium positions (edge rusher, cornerback, and wide receiver), the Chiefs will have good-to-great starters at positions that clog up the salary cap for other teams.

Chiefs grounds crew already preparing training camp practice fields in St. Joseph | yahoo

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/chiefs-grounds-crew-already-preparing-174532954.html

Chiefs head groundskeeper Travis Hogan recently posted a video of his team doing some work at the practice fields at the Missouri Western State University campus. This is the second year that he’s given us an update around this time, teasing the preparation of the grass practice fields in St. Joseph.

LOOK: Chiefs’ 2022 Red Friday Flag revealed | yahoo

The 2022 flag features a red background with “Chiefs” in yellow and “Kingdom” in white and the team’s Arrowhead Logo beneath. There’s also a yellow border with red text repeating the phrase “Chiefs Kingdom.” There are no special dates or occasions commemorated on the flag this year.

Tip of the cap to you, Hoosier. I thank you for everything that you did, and hope to see you back around here soon. I also hope that the political speak dies down around here; this isn’t the place for it. If that means fewer clicks for the site, then so be it.

Get some rest, and hopefully we see you around OTAs/preseason.

Thank you for all your work Hoosier. I agree with you 100%. This site can absolutely suck during the off season. I understand football news is slow now but still. I complained about the OT discussions before being a major catalyst for chasing away members and I even offered a solution. Simply not mixing football news and an open thread together would help people trying to avoid the unwanted opinions of others and require minimal work. You want a place to vent about issues other than football? Okay. You want to use a Chiefs football site to do it? Weird, but ok. Just give us a way to avoid clicking a thread that will be filled with self important inane dribble on topics not related to the Chiefs. I watch sports to escape the world for a while and I expect that goes for a lot of other members.

My favorite Royals site was ruined by political discourse because of what that one guy/girl in office did. As soon as you realize that 98% of both sides are under the control of some centralized entity you can be liberated from the cycle of discontent and malice that exists between the left/right, black/white, rich/poor, etc.

Sorry to see this, Hoosier, but from your comments, “either side” isn’t the problem. We all left the other place because they censored people. Not wanting “the Democratic view” is basically the same. It sounds like you feel the other view isn’t an issue. The reason these discussions go on is because both sides kick in.
We are, I hope, friends, and friends discuss current events. If it’s not possible to scroll past these discussions, I’m sorry. I’m not sure what to tell you. I’m no better, though. If I see someone posting stuff that I feel is just wrong, something just makes me respond.
Now, if Tony wants to ban political talk, I’m ok with that. Site house, site rules. But what is and isn’t allowed needs to be very clear. Are guns political? Health issues? Best use of taxes? Players off field activities? Problem is, none of these are ACTUALLY political. It’s when somebody starts with “the left” or “right wing” that it goes there. But if Tony wants to end that, fine by me. That would mean we need actual moderators.
Perhaps filters are possible? Pale could set up their own? Auto delete any comment with keywords. Guns. Abortion. Kneeling. Whatever sets you off. No clue if that possible.
I’m on a bicycle site that bans any and all political talk. Threads get locked if it starts, but there are hundreds of threads to choose from. We can start giving week long bans or whatever, but you’re going to get “he started it!” every time.
I hope you stick around. We are completely opposite in political views, but that doesn’t matter. I like to think we are both respectful of the other view and can keep it from being an issue.
That’s way too long, but you don’t just let friends leave without taking about it.

Off-seasons are tough. Not much chiefs news so all threads devolve into non chiefs related topics. I feel like during the season it’s mostly just the open threads that get out of control.

Gotta learn when to engage and when to “walk” away.

Yep. Can’t find football news worth talking about.
I try to (TRY to) keep to a 3-post rule. If we are having an exchange, and it’s gone back and forth for 3 exchanges and we are still at odds, we are done. There’s no point in continuing because it’s clear we are not moving. Our points were made and seen, move on.
After that, other things are going to get dragged in and it’ll go on forever.

I read that over 4 times before sending and still missed it. PEOPLE, not Pale. Sheesh. Stupid phone.

Thanks Hoosier. I appreciated your wit sprinkled in the Huddles. This place seems to forget it is run by mostly volunteers that do it because of their love of the Chiefs and this community. I hope you know how much gratitude I have for you doing this almost every morning. Don’t let them run you completely away from us in the comments. Enjoy some rest and relaxation, and some Rock and Roll.

Thanks Hoosier! I too am here everyday to get the most recent Chiefs updates and get peoples take on the latest Chiefs news, but agree that having to wade through all the political bantering gets nauseating.

Thank Goodness Chiefs restructured Clark contract. Defensive players on this list are IMPACT players = worth that $$$.
.
You see a trend in production?

  • 2018 = 13 sacks (Seahawks)
  • 2019 = 8 sacks (Chiefs) – signed 5 year, $104m contract
  • 2020 = 6 sacks (Chiefs)
  • 2021 = 4.5 sacks (Chiefs) – will make $13.7m (restructured amount)
  • 2022 = TBD sacks (Chiefs) – he’ll BALL to get a contract from another team
  • 2023 = $30m cap hit if plays for Chiefs OR cut him, only take a $9.5m cap hit

.

That’s really telling when you see the sack totals year after year. Seattle was smart to move on from Frank when they did. Judging by the totals, this year it looks like Frankie-boy will have 2.5 sacks. And that half a sack will be more of a generosity in how they record these.

sorry to hear this and fully understand your decision, I also have been thinking about leaving for the same reason. Living in rural New England (read Patriots country), Chiefs news is scarcer than hen’s teeth and this site was a godsend for me because it provided a better alternative to AP.

On social media I refuse to discuss politics or religion because no matter your point of view you will be chastised.
I come here for the sport news, the commentary, the witty banter, and a host of other things but not for politics.

Farewell and good luck to you and know you will be missed.
