The Kansas City Chiefs’ decisions in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft have impacted their ability to land top free agents following the draft.
Fans were taken aback when Melvin Ingram opted to sign with the Miami Dolphins over returning to the Chiefs. The same reaction happened on Wednesday when James Bradberry agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chiefs Fans Less Happy With Draft Class Than Expected: Report|Heavy.com
The Kansas City Chiefs had a top-ranked draft class in 2022 according to most analysts but a recent NFL study showed that the selections didn’t impress the fanbase as much as one might expect.
It’s hard to say whether there is still some bitterness after the Tyreek Hill trade and the Tyrann Mathieu departure — or if the actual draft picks upset fans — but Kansas City only finished 16th in this study despite an overwhelmingly positive reception from the media.
Todays Huddle Was Provided By ,The One And The Only , Nova Chiefs ..

A bit (okay, very) dated, but still a cool story out of Georgia.
https://footballscoop.com/news/the-most-unique-college-football-program-in-the-country-has-found-a-great-fit-as-their-new-head-coach
In other news, nice Huddle, NoVA! And may it be the start of many more.
cool
Nova, I thought this was well done. Congrats on a great first huddle and may it be the start of many future similar ones.
And that doesn’t mean you just get to copy and paste this one and use it for future days. You do have to provide new content and all. 😀
Wait. What? Rip TOLD me “do the first one, copy, change the date, done. They just jump to the comments to argue, anyway.”
😉
he promised you hookers and booze too, didn’t he?
Hookers and blow!! 🤣🤣🤣
Liquor and drugs!
Nova!
Thanks Nova!
I just did a search for “w.h.o. treaty” on google, then on both duckduckgo and yahoo to compare first-page results.
This has gotten beyond ridiculous. It’s beyond parody…at this point, the most malevolent “super-MAGA” politician couldn’t clown these ignorant children more ridiculously than they clown themselves.
Why we got politics in the morning huddle?
Can’t you help yourself?
Honestly been trying to stay away from it. But this just got me. One, because the WHO treaty subject is fucking scary and ridiculous. And two, because I’ve owned googl stock for a while, and remember when they actually weren’t evil. It is very upsetting to see this change. I guess newer guys have taken up the “don’t be evil” mantle now. I guess every company eventually gets old and beholden.
So, it’s not really the politics angle that got me about this. It’s the…I guess personal character and morality angle. Google now sucks, and I’m still owning it and using it, and that sucks.
I mean, what the fuck happened? They youngest people and college people used to be the ones for personal freedoms, against government over-reach, against censorship. What happened with this latest young generation? They seem absolutely fascinated by societal control and strategic censorship. I mean, anybody can be fascinated by those things, but it’s not supposed to be the kids who are.
It’s not a politics issue, it’s a character issue.
You can say what you want, and I respect that. I can say what I want, and you can suck that.
Thanks for being considerate.
And you can suck my balls bitch
both of ya … chill, ok? please!
So shut up, then? Like Zulu tried to tell me to do?
Ya know, I can talk about politics AND football AND society in general all at the same time. Actually, lots of people can do that. And, I can shut up, too, like a lot of other people who used to hang around here already have.
I know, I’m just saying let’s “keep it civil” … not against conversation and opinions (football or not) … never have been (and you know me as well as anyone from 10-12 yrs ago and some of the extended OT’s from AP covering every possible non-football topic)
We lost a good one the other day over this. That’s why Zulu and others are advocating NO POLITICS in the Morning Huddle.
Who?
Think he’s talking about Hoosier
My personal – not political – opinion is that it’s not really political opinions that chase people away. It’s intolerance. Because, well, that’s kinda the whole purpose of intolerance, isn’t it? It’s pretty much the definition of the word.
Was Hoosier against political opinionating? Or is he worn out by the vehemence and intolerance that gets associated with some political opinions here?
I am going to agree with this. Politics, in and of itself, isn’t the problem. We have always had two parties that are opposed to each other. But until the last 25 years or so, they managed to work together SOMEtimes. It’s the rancor, the total lack of tolerance that we have now that’s the problem. We see it in “real life” and it’s reflected too often here. Blaming the internet is a fairly easy and probably accurate excuse, but it wasn’t always like this which means it doesn’t have to be like this.
How do we stop this? We don’t IRL, but we can here. Our first step should probably self-restraint. Maybe the first place we can start is trying restrain political talk in threads other than the OTs? We have to start somewhere.
The best way to learn anything is to keep doing it until you get better at it.
Stop doing something, and you will stop getting better at it. And somebody else will probably try to do it for you.
I agree with that, but not sure how it applies to this? I’m not saying stop discussing.
TBF he was against politics in OTs as well, I agree on the huddle or other football specific posts.
Thing is, I don’t save my opinions up just to use them on people at some set time. That’s just not why I talk to or with other people.
That’s what work meetings are for.
“I’d rather take a beating than go to a meeting” – pretty much everybody
They unfortunately are learning from the LAST “youngest people” who were all for freedoms, justice, and liberties until they somehow lost all that and decided to junk all that.
I do blame my own generation for a lot of it. And I think of myself as a prime example of my generation. Gen-X, the latchkey kids. I’m not gonna claim that we had it tougher than other generations before or since. But there was a big change from the older generations to ours…two working parents, higher divorce rates, both skyrocketed in the 60s-80s.
So we grew up feeling our independence. Didn’t get the help we expected, learned to not need or want any help. We became proud of that. But, that made us extremely un-prepared for mentoring the next generations…we either helicoptered them, or booted them out and expected them to be even more independent than we were. We did a disservice, in a few different ways, because we had no idea what we were supposed to do.
I’m even before yours and I blame US. All the high (no pun) ideals about how the world should be and being responsible for the earth, blah, blah, blah, and all we did was trash out in the name of our own convenience, and whatever would make a buck. My guess is ever generation looks back and wonders “how the hell did THIS happen to us?”
It’s maybe too simplistic, but I think the biggest problem with the Baby Boomer generation is just the shear number of y’all.
America wasn’t made to be driven by any one group or another. In fact, it was designed to be just the opposite. But the Boomer generation, through no fault of their own, did and still do have a very outsized influence on politics, business, traditions, everything. That just naturally makes a traffic jam situation where a few people do OK but a lot of people get stuck.
Sounds about right
Berserker – Too political and not enough on the Chiefs. Please express it elsewhere.
won’t disagree, specifically … however, when there are “complaints” about anything remotely political being posted “elsewhere” (evening OT for example) it does make one wonder “why bother being here at all?”
as others have noted: this site was started because of a flap over “free speech” at AP (where for YEARS evening OT’s were full of 500+ comment threads covering every conceivable topic, politics economics education etc
a blog like this is very similar to going to a bar and chatting with friends … granted it’s a sports bar, and indeed it’s a football bar (a Chiefs bar, at that) but nobody (and I mean NOBODY) can just talk “football” 24-/365 … after all, how many times can we say “great draft!” or opine that this or that player will or might be really good
Open thread for you morons
Shutting people up will shut down a conversation faster than anything else. I mean, kinda obviously.
You tell a room of grade school kids what they are allowed or not allowed to talk about, maybe that works. But you try that with fellow adult people, they’ll either slap you back for trying to play grown-up on other grown-ups, or they’ll just leave.
edit: In other words, I agree with you.
In other words, I agree with you
Lamont, my heart … I think this is the BIG ONE!
First thing they do is talk about what you don’t want them to talk about
So… Fight Club?
Kind of the anti-fight club
Yes, both kids and adults do have that in common.
Open thread would work
Even for a moron like beserker
again, no need for name-calling … agree that OT is a good place
Why don’t you mind your own business
No.
FOR THE SALARY CAP POLICE 🙂
Chiefs rank near the top of the NFL in effective salary cap space, with $14,755,982 available
The Chiefs rank seventh in the NFL with just over $7.9 million in dead cap space
Dead Cap former players:
Last year Chiefs were STILL paying Eric Berry dead cap $$$.
Spotrac has them at $12.061 million available.
Either way, still seems like plenty to sign the most decent DE available on the market, WITHOUT first having to get Brown’s new contract done.
So it seems like at this point it’s a matter of the team’s own choice, instead of being trapped by cap, as to whether they sign new DL.
TGIRF!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beoches!!
wtg Nooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, everyone. Glad to finally be able to help out around here.
Now, if anyone has a secret source they get news from that isn’t behind a paywall, let me know and I’ll add it to the places I’ll look.
And what about the Star? Do enough people have subscriptions that it would be worth it? Does anyone? I don’t, so I’d have to sign up, but only if it would benefit you guys rather than piss you off (as paywalls do me).
Just duckduckgo (I will sound like an advertisement here, but swear I’m not affiliated in any way) seems to pull up a decent list of news bits without many paywall links.
For example, here’s a kinda off-the-wall type weird story I just now ducked up, on Golf Digest of all places: https://www.golfdigest.com/story/jordan-addison-usc-nil-contract-college-football-juju-smith-schuster-chiefs “Pitt WR Jordan Addison reportedly transferring to USC on NIL mega-deal, will make more than JuJu Smith-Schuster with the Chiefs in 2022”
1) Thanks for the tip
2) That’s nuts, but also completely fair. It’ll probably lead to far fewer borderline stars leaving early to go Pro.
It is scary, for college sports. But it’ll even out after awhile.
Heard a good point by somebody on the radio yesterday. These kids will probably still do stuff like leave early for the pros, and skip bowl games, because that is where their NEXT check is coming from…until and unless provisions against that are explicitly written into the kids’ contracts.
It is just business-101 to take your current payday for granted in favor of maximizing your next payday, so the “adults” need to not be shocked when the kids on the other side of the negotiating table prove to be just as all-business as they are.
Only the top line guys will get this, of course, but for the guys who THINK they are Rd 1 talent, but are really Rd 3 but hey, better than getting injured, it may be enough to keep them in school. Maybe develop a bit more and actually be that Rd 1 in a year or two.
Next Nan up: Nova 👍
Congrats and thanks to Nova for his first Morning Huddle!
Also, since I’ve started archiving open threads, I’ve been thinking of doing the same for Morning Huddles so there’s only one Morning Huddle on the front page at a time. What’s everybody’s thoughts on this? Yay or nay?
Sounds good to me .
Makes sense, but I’d keep two days worth on the front. Sometimes, I go back to the previous to see if any other pithy comments were added later.
How about pinning feature articles on the side or somewhere for a week or so, so they are easy to find if you want to read them later?
The featured articles list is an idea I’m thinking about.
The idea of archiving is that they’re still available, just hidden. For example with open threads all the archived ones are still available if you click on Open Threads at the top of the page. We’d have a similar thing for Morning Huddles if you wanted to go back and review old ones.
Understand, but you do run into the “out of sight, out of mind” issue doing that. Leaving them visible for an extra day might add to discussions. Which, thinking about it, might not always be good. 😉
Great job this morning Nova.
I think that article about the draft is mistaken they didn’t ask Chiefs fans they asked Denver, Vegas, and whatever city the Chargers are associated with fans.
Thanks for picking up the slack Nova
Wait, chiefs fans aren’t high on the draft? What fucking chiefs fans are they polling?
That’s exactly what I said..I’m guessing the mentality challenged ones …
We picked the 13th WR in the draft, so obviously the other 12 guys are going to be better than him.
Adam Teicher?
Rec’d for the Teichbag Slam … ; )
name-calling … now that’s creative and useful and all-grown-up-mature
ok, it isn’t any of that, but whatever
he’s a reporter, period …
I’d guess they are fans who heard Veach talk after the AFCCG about how the Dline needed to be addressed, and believed him. And who haven’t either read or been much influenced by pop media/opinion since then. I.E., fans who track big picture type stuff like what the Chiefs brass says, and who don’t keep as much track of 24-hour news cycle type stuff like draftnik minutiae.
There is room for two thoughts here.
One, I personally do like the draft. I think they got good players.
Two, I am disappointed that the Dline has not been addressed nearly as much as the Chiefs’ own GM implied that it would be.

1 agree
2 didn’t really hear Veach say the D-Line was a huge priority, though he DID get Karlaftis in 1st, and added Chenal to LB corps
3 I think that by improving the Secondary (McDuffie Cook etc etc etc) that in itself SHOULD help the D-Line
I still don’t believe they are done with the D line. I still expect them to go after someone else at either DL or DE, possibly via trade, once they settle Brown’s contract. They have to be looking ahead for a replacement for Frank after next season.
Maybe they think Kaindoh can do something. I really like Danna as a football player, but haven’t seen any sign that he could be a decent pass rusher yet.
Here’s a place that quotes part of what Veach said back in February: https://heavy.com/sports/kansas-city-chiefs/brett-veach-details-positions-of-emphasis-2022-offseason/
The phrase that stuck out to a lot of us is “…defensive line probably makes the most sense…” although he did also mention the defensive backfield.
I think they’re looking for more veterans to shore up the D-line, owing to its importance. It’s good to have some young guys there, for depth, but having them take the brunt of the snaps would (likely) not be the most ideal situation.
If draft picks are young(er) guys, they can be worked in rotationally on a gradually increasing basis, until eventually they take over the lion’s share of the action.
defensive line probably makes the most sense
coach-speak? GM-speak not wanting to tip his hand? he DID address the Defense (overall) and that he DID make clear, so there’s that
more moves in the making? eh, who knows … we shall see what we shall see
Taylor Stallworth is better than Darren Reed….that is one improvement. Karlaftis is another. I also think Chenal will be used in the pass rush.
I have been wondering if we’re under-rating Stallworth. And when Seth is doing a review on him.
Fridays finally here……..been along hot week here in Tx.. have a great weekend AG………
Yesterday 95 degrees in Denver
Today potentially 8 inches of snow in metro Denver 😆 🤣 😂 typical Denver weather
Only 85 and sunny today
Seems to me Veach has at least one more move up his sleeve, hopefully targeting DL/DE. What exactly is the June 1 deadline for releasing players with minimized cap hit? Might that produce additional candidates along with those like Clowney and Houston who remain available?
Strange
Melvin signed with Fins for only $6m….kc has that cap money 💰.
DE – to be continued
I commend Veach & Co for not panicking and spending over what they calculated his value at. The draft picks already boost the attitude and physicality he brought last year.
Yeah, I agree. There’s still time to find a DE. Don’t panic. BVeach is on the j.o.b.
Red Friday 52 weeks a year!!
Kansas City Chiefs Fight Song
Thanks Nova, same to all AG volunstaffers.
