Good morning AG!

Today in Chiefs’ history:

Some other stuff may have happened:

In 1448, the Crusaders undertook their last wide-scale effort to free the Balkans from Ottoman rule when the second Battle of Kosovo began in Serbia; the battle would end in a defeat for the Crusader Hungarian-Wallachian Army.

In 1777, after a major defeat in the Second Battle of Saratoga, British general John Burgoyne surrendered his troops.

American actress Rita Hayworth was born on this date in 1918.

In 1933, Albert Einstein would arrive in the United States; he would never return to Europe owing to rising antisemitic sentiment erupting through the continent.

Mae Jemison, an American physician, was born on this date in 1956; Jemison would go on to become the first African-American woman to become an astronaut, and she would spend more than a week orbiting the Earth in the space shuttle Endeavour in 1992.

In 1989, the San Francisco earthquake struck the Bay Area; 63 people were killed, and widespread devastation ensued. Ironically, the two Bay Area teams, the Kansas City Oakland A[thletic]s and the San Francisco Giants, were playing in the World Series when the magnitude-6.9 temblor interrupted the broadcast of Game 3.

The news.

Chiefs’ Jalen Royals Has a Chance to Become Chiefs’ Next Man Up | ArrowheadAddict

The injury bug is back in Kansas City, and its target is the wide receiver corps. Tyquan Thornton was lost to a devastating dislocated ankle and Rashee Rice is out with hamstring issues. Justin “Elementary, My Dear” Watson was signed to the practice squad to bring some veteran presence – that he has experience with the Chiefs’ playbook is an added bonus.
However, the answer could already don the red and yellow every week: Jalen Royals, who has the fourth-most snaps from the WR room – following Thornton, Rice, and Xavier Worthy. The authors at Arrowhead Addict think that Royals’ best role will be that of short-to-intermediate routes, with Worthy taking on the role of downfield threat and Cyrus Allen taking Worthy’s current space.
Royals has 17 yards and one touchdown on three catches (of five targets) this season.

Chiefs Roll Into Week 6 Unbeaten as San Angeles Chargers Face Daunting Trip to Arrowhead | Daily Mail

The Chiefs are treating this just like any other Sunday, and since the Chargers are a division rival, they know that almost anything can happen. “We know that records don’t matter,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid in speaking of the Chargers. “They’ve been in every game.”
“It’s a divisional opponent,” said Chiefs defensive lineman George Karlaftis. “[T]hose games are really, really important. With them not having any wins, they’re going to be hungry […] to get their first win, and they’d like nothing more than to get a win against us.”
Reid pointed out that the Chargers are largely the same team that caused Mahomes to injure his knee last season, although Justin Herbert has been a bit of an aberration. Through five weeks of the NFL season, only Deshaun Watson of the Browns has been sacked more times than Herbert, who is also currently tied with Drake Maye for the most picks in the league.

Chiefs New Cornerback is Quickly Becoming a Star | Roundtable.io

THe Chiefs were heavily criticized for giving up too much draft capital to land [Mansoor] Delane [out of LSU with the #6 pick overall], but it’s tough to criticize the player given what we’ve seen so far on the gridiron. Though it wasn’t always a “bed of roses,” to quote Queen, as Delane missed a good chunk of minicamp (and at least one game in 2026) with a shoulder injury. He also struggled to get onto the field in the early part of the season.
Still, Delane’s stock is rapidly rising, which is exactly what the Chiefs were hoping for.

The Chiefs Want Sacks but They Haven’t Been Getting Home | Roundtable.io

There’s not a lot to complain about when your team is 4-0. And though the Chiefs have been able to generate pressure, they haven’t quite been able to knock down opposing quarterbacks in the backfield. So far, luckily, that hasn’t mattered – much – as everything else is proceeding swimmingly for the team.
That being said, though, the Chiefs ranked 27th in pass-rush win rate, a metric measuring a defense’s success in beating opposing pass protection within 2.5 seconds. Kansas City’s defense has only been able to do so 45% of the time on average through the first part of 2026 – and only pressured Kirk Cousins 34.6% of the time, a staggering statistic when one considers that Cousins is the least mobile quarterback the Chiefs have faced recently.

Left Tackle Returns for Chiefs but Key Receiver Still Out | Roundtable.io

In what is sure to be the biggest news story since COVID, Josh Simmons has returned to practice for the Chiefs.
Yes, you read that right, and the presses have been stopped. Josh Simmons is back to practicing with the team. Rookie Kahlil Benson, who has been filling in up front for Simmons, has largely been handling the role with aplomb, though he is still finding his feet as a pass blocker after not playing up front in college while an Indiana Hoosier. Benson, however, has excelled at run blocking, allowing Kenneth Walker III to do things not seen since Jamaal Charles was a Chief – namely, running the ball.
[Ed: Well, that didn’t last long. Simmons has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the San Angeles Chargers. As you were, everyone.]

That should be everything, Chiefs fans! Enjoy your weekend, and may your college teams all win today – unless one of those teams is Ohio State, in which case, may the Buckeyes be roundly defeated in spectacular and humiliating fashion.
Don’t forget, you can catch Mitch Holthus and Danan Hughes – the best in the business – on the Chiefs Radio Network come game day. Unless you’re one of those people who prefers lackluster, schlocky TV commentary of course…
And as always, go Chiefs!
