(sarcasm mode on) At the very least, we now know Denver’s offensive system and plays. That, for sure, was the main reason for the signing, because we needed such detailed inside information to pull off two wins against them… (sarcasm mode off)

BTW, MG3 has fumbled 26 times losing 18 of them in 1567 rushes and 309 receptions (20 fumbles via rushes; 6 fumbles via receptions). A little math says for his 1876 combined touches and 26 total fumbles, he averages one fumble every 72 touches (72.15), and of those 26 fumbles 18 were lost/turnovers, so that comes to an average of 102 touches per turnover.

In 1876 rushes and receptions he’s gained a total of 8,929 yards, so for all those yards he has turned over the ball once every 496 yards gained.

Of course, that’s a career average. He’s lost two fumbles this year on just 541 yards total production, so his average turnover rate this season is one per 270 yards gained. Not so good.

For comparison with our former #1 RB, CEH…

CEH career stats: 2 fumbles (both lost/turnovers); 371 rushes for 1622 yards, and 72 receptions for 577 yards. That’s a total of 443 touches for 2199 yards. That’s one fumble lost/turnover per 221.5 touches and per 1099.5 yards of production (both stats are better than twice MG3).

As much as I am ready to move on from CEH as anything other than a backup RB behind Pacheco, CEH is certainly better at ball-protection than MG3. I suspect anyone we have on the roster is better, except for Skyy Moore as a PR.

I’m starting to think the Chiefs trade CEH in the offseason, otherwise I don’t think they would go this route. I know he’s on IR now, but he’s being passed on the depth chart in favor of Pacheco and even McKinnon, at this point.

One way or another, he’s gone. Can’t believe Gordon is a replacement

It’s funny, I was just thinking that I tend to think my takes on football things aren’t very good.

When we traded for Toney I thought they’d probably shut him down to get his legs right, but he played the first game possible. Then after a couple games, he goes out with another hamstring and maybe not playing him would have been the correct thing from the beginning just as I originally thought.

When Gordon was waived, I made a weak case that he would make a good insurance policy for a late-season veteran RB for “just-in-case” we’re down to just 3 RBs. At the time I didn’t realize how many fumbles he’d had in his career, but I thought his problems this season were just a symptom of something mental that playing for the Broncos this year may have done to him. Later, I looked over his career stats and realized there is a history of fumbling issues. Maybe his hands are small and he struggles to keep control of it? Well, regardless, the Chiefs did pick him up for the PS, at least. I didn’t figure he’d sign on to a PS situation unless he couldn’t get starting or 2nd team work elsewhere, but apparently, other good teams don’t need him right now and wouldn’t want a fumbler, and bad teams don’t have a reason to take reps away from their development players, so why pay for him? The Chiefs, however, are a good team with a bit of a depth problem. They don’t need Gordon to play, but at some point there has to be a bottom of the barrel guy if you get to that point. Injuries happen. Might as well have a veteran with past success than an inexperienced FA with no known upside.

At the very least, Gordon provides our defense a chance to practice fumble recoveries during the week.

At least a veteran will be familiar with pass protection and such. that seems to be a sticking point for a lot of RB’s

if no one else in the RB room gets injured, I’d be surprised if he plays in games, unless the Chiefs really want to call him up just to kick the tires on him in a real game situation. I have no idea what the Chiefs really think about this hire.

If they can fix his fumbling issues, great. But I’m still scratching my head on this one.

use him as a punt returner?

Fumbling a punt return would be an improvement over what we’ve been doing.

gives us a better chance of recovering it… rather than having it shoot between the legs.

I wonder is Toub has started coaching the jammers to get down field and look for the ball on the ground

The Chiefs saw Ronald Jones run 4 times this season, and that was enough for them to know they should sign Melvin Gordon.

Talked to Melvin Gordon III. He is signing w/Chiefs practice squad. “Good opportunity for me.” Asked if he picked Chiefs on purpose since they play Broncos twice: “I’m not thinking about the Broncos at all. I’m just happy to be playing (bleeping) football again.”

I disagree.

I think the only reason we signed him was because CEH is on IR.

Obviously, 4 plays is about as shit a sample size as you can possibly have.

I don’t mind it as long as he is never required to play

Considering that he has a fumble problem, I’m not enthusiastic about this signing. He fumbles a lot.

I think he’ll be on the practice squad in case we lose another RB.

I hope so. I do worry though. I can see him costing us a close game with an untimely fumble though. At this point in the season it could cost us the one seed, or even worse, a playoff game.

That’s funny, considering that you could beat the donkeys with a sack full of taco bell.

I thought that’s how they were going to try and distract Andy from play calling?

That’s a minimum of 4 weeks. There’s no promise that he’ll be back after 4 weeks or even this season. High ankle sprains can be a problem for much more than 4 weeks. It could be the Chiefs are thinking it’s going to be a recovery on the longer side.

Not sure I would have done this. Rojo looked good, CEH will be back, IP is rocking the house, McKinnon is good for changing things up.
Where does he fit? Take Rojo’s place on the PS?

I’m not sure if this matters or not. It is nice that we have him there just in case we need him but I’m not sure if he is still worth the trouble.

His stats are similar to CEH a little less on the running and a little over on the passing.

I have no idea what to think of this signing…
