“Circled in Red”

A Chiefs’ poem by 3rdnlong – 2022 NFL Week 13, KC at CIN

“Circled in Red”

In the offseason when the schedule comes out,
Teams look much closer at the coming year.
Some games they think will be cake, and no doubt
These games are then mentally filed in the rear.

In the forefront, however, come games that loom large,
The outcomes that play a huge role in the fate
For teams in that season, for who is in charge
When playoffs come ‘round and great goes against great.

The Bengals and Chiefs were the last standing teams
Last January when the stakes had been raised.
The loser went home with their harsh-shattered dreams
The winner to play for the title, and praised.

The Chiefs lost that one and thus there began
A longer offseason than previously sought.
And even though Cincy fell next to the Rams,
The AFC crown they had won when we fought.

But now this game circled in red has appeared.
The Chiefs have been waiting to even the score.
The Bengals are decent, but more to be feared
Is Patrick Mahomes and his offensive corps.

Unstoppable force! This Chiefs’ offense bold
Is leading the league in each category
(Except for our rushing, if truth must be told).
Yet everywhere else the top spots are KC’s.

Defenses can’t stop us.  And Bengals will know
How hopeless they are when they have to defend.
The Chiefs will get points by the run or the throw,
To running backs, wideouts, to all-pro tight end.

Some trash talk erupted on Twitter this week
Between Justin Reid and the punk Jamarr Chase.
Though not the best strategy Chiefs usually seek,
We’ll see how it ends in the Bengals’ home place.

The weekend is coming.  A big test to come.
A rematch of one game we hated to see.
Bengals will bring their A-game, and them some,
But Chiefs’ will soon triumph in sweet victory.
