BRaG’s Breakdown: Intangibles
9 repliesThe playoffs are here and I have things to say, but what do I know?
What are intangibles? By definition, they are hard to quantify, especially considering that there are many possible means to a given “end state”. Leadership’s a good example, and I think that Mahomes learned a good deal about NFL QB leadership from Smith, who was an excellent role model there.
It makes sense, considering Patrick grew up studying both great leaders and clubhouse cancers from summers with his dad, when he played in the majors. Learning that while growing up allowed him to adapt Alex’s skills to fit his own style, since you can’t fake it with someone else’s stuff.
But while he’s got tangibles coming out of his ears, not to mention all the traditionally recognized intangibles, there’s something more, something special. That’s a spectrum of its own, but I think what he brings to this team is a special type of resilience, a belief that there’s a way for his team to win, no matter how bad the situation is.
Scoreless first half against NE? They barely escaped with the W, and effectively played their SB that day. Down a ton against HOU? Yeah, right, and then there’s the rest of the playoff games that went that way. You’ll never see Patrick Mahomes destroy a tablet in a fit of pique, because he never gives up until the clock zeroes out. He doesn’t give up on himself, his teammates, or the game. You can confuse him and get him second-guessing himself, the way Darth Hoodie did, but you can’t break his will, because he refuses to quit. It’s an intangible that can’t be quantified, but I believe he’s got more of it than Allen does. Come Sunday, we shall see.
Now’s your chance to tell me how wrong I am.
100% agree … Mahomes is relentless in pursuit of points and his teamies know it, everyone knows what a pure competitor he is
I hope the Chiefs already have a good lead throughout the game and they don’t NEED for “THAT Mahomes” to show up … Josh Allen may not have that specific kind of “don’t quit attitude” but he IS very talented
should be a fun game
Geaux Chiefs!
Mahomes has all the intangibles we could ever want in a QB. There’s just something special about him. It’s not just his never-give-up attitude, but his ability to step up and actually physically do things in the face of severe pressure and under the brightest lights. He’s not a normal guy.
We are so lucky we got him , if not chances are we would still be waiting for glory. And with him being able to learn from the start from Andy , that will be beneficial for his entire career.. It’s an awesome time to be a chiefs fan .
I thought it’s ALWAYS a good time to be a Chiefs fan … 🙂
Yes sir, it is ,win or lose, but I have found winning a bit more fun ..😁
There have been times when I’ve been a “quiet” chiefs fan!
On the lighter side, a good nickname might be an intangible. The Four Horsemen, Fearsome Foursome, Purple People Eaters, Doomsday Defense, the Hammer, Crazy Legs. Just a few to get you thinking.
The Big Red Machine
The Big Red Chewing Gum Machine …
nah, never mind
wait, Mahomes is the Four Horsemen? ok, I’m confused
