Winners/Losers: Chiefs Vs Packers

Who are the bears this week, and who are the bulls? Stock analyst Tony gives you the inside skinny!

The Chiefs have a winning record again!

A win is a win, but still plenty of losers and winners.

Winners

Special Teams

They got a blocked field goal and recovered a muffed punt (touching the returner’s toe counts as a muff, right?), which played a huge role in securing the win.

The Defense

We’ll talk specifics later, but the defense as a whole dominated. They were one bad play (by one of our losers) away from getting a shutout. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing, that’s a good day at the office.

Frank Clark

Let’s get into some specific defensive players, starting with Clark, who’s starting to play well. He didn’t light up the scoreboard, but he repeatedly showed up on the field and was a big reason the Packers struggled to move the ball.

L’Jarius Sneed and Charvarius Ward

Despite being a 6th round pick and an undrafted free agent, Sneed and Ward look like a very good cornerback duo now that they’re both finally on the field at the same time. The announcers were wanting the Packers to go to Davante Adams, but when Love threw the ball his way more often than not, Sneed and Ward shut that whole thing down.

Losers

Mecole Hardman

The highlights were a muffed punt and a dropped pass on 3rd down that hit him on the hands, but he failed to show up all game.

Dan Sorenson

The defense looked like they were on their way to a shutout, until Sorenson got abused yet again, this time giving up a touchdown on a 4th and 5. It’s gotten to the point where he’s not an NFL caliber player.

The Offense

A lot of people focused on Mahomes, but in my mind he had a mostly solid game despite the poor statline. Instead, it was just a continued struggle on offense with drops and penalties, and got little help with play calling. To be fair, though, I also think the Packers defense legitimately played well. But this is a Chiefs team that’s supposed to dominate on offense, and 13 points (let’s be honest, it was more like 10 since 3 were free off a turnover) is unacceptable.

49 is a loser in so many ways

This.

I have been silent, typically, as regards 49, but I think it’s time for him to go. He’s looked terrible (at best) this year. Niemann needs to be given his walking papers at the end of this season as well, if not (much, much) sooner.

He needs to go away now ……. How many more touchdowns is he going to give up before he stays on the bench?
Special teams only please, then see ya.

Winner: the Chiefs. We’re back on the right side of .500, and are back in the saddle.

As people far smarter than I have mentioned, next week’s games could put us back atop the AFC West.

my mind he had a mostly solid game

WTF game were you watching? Sure, the rest of the offense didn’t do him any services, but he was constantly throwing off target. The TD to Kelce was too high, and that long ball to Kelce to get us into FG range before the half was behind him. Both times Kelce bailed Pat out. Let’s not even mention all his over throws. He has a few throws that looked like the old Mahomes, but he was mostly terrible all game yesterday and he was most definitely part of the reason the offense was so bad yesterday.

I watch other teams play, and they often score so easily in the red zone/goal line.

Show run one way and roll the QB the other way for a walk in.

Show run one way and leak a TE the other way for a wide open TD.

Split receivers out wide, rib route, one of them is wide open.

Why do we struggle so much at the goal line? We seem to always run these overly complex, long developing plays where no one gets open.

I love Mahomes as much as anyone, but he is not playing well. I don’t remember him throwing a single accurate deep pass all season.

Weeks 1, 2, and 4 he had deep TDs. That’s it’s. 3 long completions.

I’m sure all of us realize that had Rodgers played, this would not only have been a loss, but probably a blowout.
Given or recent amazing successes, this season is quite confusing and perplexing.
Pus this offense to not seem to adjust other than silly school yard type trickery is equally confusing.
This season is just one of those that will have to grind through. This year, we are struggling and are just not that good.

My two cents.

these aren’t “anti-gun” people calling for restrictions and education, these are actual gun OWNERS calling for changes … personally, not a gun guy, but I’m not one saying “take away everyone’s guns!” …

of course we are, b/c “fandom” or something … to be fair, the Offense looked anemic as all get out (imagine if the O looked this pathetic with AS11 … Ho Li Kow, the war was bad enough when they DID do well back then)

No shit. It would have been Chernobyl level meltdown. I’m not saying we should crucify Pat, but for fucks sake, let’s acknowledge this spade as a fucking spade. There is something wrong with him.

Winner: The Chiefs. We’re above 500

Loser: Chiefs fans. We have a QB that got this team to 3 consecutive AFCC games. 2 consecutive SB’s and 1 Championship. Last year’s SB exposed the flaws with the team. Other teams are imitating what the bucs did, and we have a coaching staff that seems unable to counter. Patrick is having an off year for sure, but we have some fans that have decided it’s all on said QB that brought KC a Championship after 50 flipping years. There’s a petition out there to bench Patrick. Some yahoo yesterday on the game thread suggested the same. The game thread yesterday was “toxic”. It getting to the point where being on this site isn’t fun anymore. Too “toxic”.

I don’t think it’s a great idea to judge an NFL fan site based on gameday threads. It’s like inspecting a diarrhea laden toilet with hopes of seeing cleanliness when obviously it’s going to be full of nasty shit. Every time.

Chiefs games are a roller coaster of emotion. People say stupid shit when they’re strapped in on Chiefs gameday. Talk to them after a touchdown when the Chiefs have the lead and they’re typically singing a different tune. Sure, it’s annoying and obnoxious at times, but it’s also life as a football fan.

Catch me watching a game when the Chiefs are down BIG and make a few mistakes in a row. I’m fucking livid and don’t represent positivity and respect whatsoever at all, I’m too pissed. When I used to drink, it was even worse. People just want the Chiefs to win and fans just express that inner disdain differently. Is it right or healthy? Probably not. But it’s not ruining the world or other people’s fandom either. It’s just fanatics being fans.

Meh…

It’s easy to be positive on paper. Or proverbial Internet paper anyway…

It’s hard to live positively in life, reality and actuality. It’s sometimes easy to be negative, and sometimes it’s more fun to dispense of negative emotion in that fashion (rants online). Especially when something you love and want to win–desperately–is losing. It’s not a good excuse to act like an asshole wrapped in mean jeans while you’re yelling like Hulk Hogan on Vitamins (Steroids) talking to Mean Gene meanly meaning every word in the moment. But it’s my excuse.

 yeah, it’s fanatics being maniacal

Echo!

Ups, I think we learned years and years ago that we’re not even remotely close to being the same or even similar as fans or folks. But that’s okay. Everyone lives life differently. There’s millions and millions of people on Earth (7 billion +) and I only know and understand how to live life like myself. And even that’s a work in progress that’s currently on strike.

I’ll tell you this. I’m enjoying that the Chiefs are on a two game winning streak and that they didn’t blow either of these football games. It makes life just a little bit more sweet!

Gotta try and have good days. We can agree on that!

While certain flaws were exposed in the Super Bowl, to be fair I think if our line hadn’t all been bitten by the injury bug (and Townshend hadn’t miserably shanked those two punts) we would have probably seen a different result.

I judge Patrick Mahomes harshly because he’s earning half a billion dollars and he’s the leader of the offense. Is he the only problem? Of course not. But he is the face and the on field commander of the O. His play and his demeanor seem to be off and I call him on it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s one of the most talented QB’s I’ve ever seen. He’s just not living up to his previous standards. Benching him might serve as a wake up call. It might not but floating the idea doesn’t mean it’s stupid. I’ll leave that decision for the coach. As for game threads, they’ve always been this way. It’s just worse now because we’re used to this team performing at a much better level than what we’re getting. Frustration breeds anger an hostility. It is what it is.

I tuned in and had to leave when some negative nancy dipshit was blaming Mahomes and saying it’s time for a change. At that point, my blood pressure began to rise and I had to leave. I can’t remember ever seeing a positive comment from this guy. The stupidity of some people is mind-boggling.

Last year’s SB exposed the flaws with the team

i wholly disagree here. The only thing that SB exposed is you can’t win a SB with a 4/5 string OL. The Bucs didn’t do anything that hasn’t been seen before. We just had an inept OL, a horrible game plan, distractions off field, and refs that were horribly biased early in the game, letting it get away from us.

I wouldn’t single out any one offensive player. The entire unit, after the first drive, was damn offensive.
