I can be reached by adding (at)Yahoo.com to the end of my screen name. That includes if you want me to edit your fanpost, and I’ll treat it just like any other piece from the regular writers that “crosses my desk”.
Here’s what I find on a quick scour. I think we caught most of these names here, but there are a couple I think are different:
Gene Pryor, OL, Hawaii
Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson
Jack Cochrane, LB, South Dakota
Dustin Crum, QB, Kent State
Tayon Fleet-Davis, RB, Maryland
Komotay Koffie, DB, Northern Colorado
Jerrion Ealy, RB, Ole Miss
Mike Rose, LB, Iowa State
Trevor Begue, WR, UIW
Qua Brown, S, Southern Illinois
I can’t help but come away from this draft feeling better about our WR room than last year even with us losing Tyreek. Is that just me overvaluing the unknown? probably.
I can easily see this WR group having more production, and being much more consistently productive.
One thing has to happen, though. Mahomes has to fully break his habit of looking for certain individuals, and instead throw to the best option on every play no matter who it is. He has gotten better at that, but it’s a problem that still showed up last year, most obviously in the AFCCG.
This may be the most relevant comment on this thread. Granted, I voiced a similar opinion in my Over The Hill post, but you’ve stated it much more emphatically. Retaining Kelce still makes sense, but when they “cracked the code” last season, what they did was expose an entrenched tendency Mahomes had fallen into. The “everybody eats” motto had become hollow, and DCs picked up on it, in a much-delayed “sophomore slump”.
The weakness of the Hill trade is on those DCs, though. Without Hill, one of two crucial focal points are gone, and Hardman aside, we have a fresh WR room. Patrick has hinted that he’s evolving his game, when he tweeted about throwing to JJSS and MVS. Shoot, toss in CEH (for screens and such), and we might have to call this the alphabet soup offense, right?
The Chiefs used the UFA tender on Melvin Ingram, meaning they now have a one-year, $4.4 million offer on the table for him, and they can get a compensatory pick if he signs with another team. https://t.co/E0DoTaLw1t
In Ingram’s case, I suspect that Ingram knew it was coming, so his agent could try to run up his leverage, with KC getting first refusal, but with insurance. That way, Ingram has a threshold contract, so if his feelers come back not substantially better, but somewhat worse, he’s got an official fallback position. That turns this season into a contract year for him, with KC setting the bidding floor. All he’s conceding to us is a shot at a comp pick, and if he does better elsewhere, raising the pick value’s no cost to him.
Optics are important, but context is key. If anyone finds evidence that Melvin’s complained about the move being unfair to him, I’ll admit I was wrong, but if not, I think that eliminates disrespect from the evaluation. Veach is well-spoken of by departed players, so I know where my (very small) money lies.
Not necessarily. Exaggerating to make the point, in Dodgeball, Patches was incapable of playing the game, but could still train up a team. Questioning Clark’s physical state is fair enough, but considering he played through the pain of a pinched nerve, I’ll need more evidence than poor stats to demonstrate lack of skill and motivation. Or something showing how he’s disgruntled with the team, but absent either, I’m not buying the ‘bad role model’ label.
But that’s just me, as I can’t allow for your feelings about him. What they are, I don’t know, but I do know that saying someone’s not a mentor is a criticism of character, so the third way you can disprove me is by demonstrating personal interactions with him showing otherwise. I expect you’ll find the above annoying, to say the least, but while I wish I could have put that more diplomatically, I can’t. Diplomacy’s a different mode of thinking, and you get to see the transition in real time. I’m weird, deal with it.
Why do you assume Clark is a mentor, instead of not one? It’s an assumption either way.
It’s not necessarily a “criticism of character” to say someone isn’t a mentor. A lot of fine people are not cut out to be teachers.
My parents for example. My mom is a career professional teacher who taught other teachers how to teach. My dad on the other hand, his way of teaching was to hand me a chainsaw or motorcycle or whatever, say “be careful,” and then stand back.
I am not holding my breath considering how bad his issues are but damn the potential is there. Outside of MVS, Hardman, Moore, and Juju those last two or three WR spots are going to be fun to watch. Ross is a legit number 1 and honestly might be better than Sammy.
If we hold onto Ross this season and let him recover we could have some insurance if Juju and Hardman are both gone next year. I’m really pulling for the guy not just as a Chiefs fan but as a football fan. The guy has been through a lot.
Apparently he is ready to go and is cleared for play. I don’t think I have seen a UDFA with this much potential right out of the gate in quite a while.
Guys with this much potential usually don’t make it past the draft. His health concerns were just that serious. I’m kind of surprised that more teams weren’t willing to take a flyer on the guy though considering how crazy the wide receiver market has gotten.
“Long and tall with physical traits galore, Johnson looks the part but lacks the consistency and ball skills expected of a starting NFL cornerback. He has enough athleticism to make it as a cornerback, but he could be tied to a press-and-trail scheme where some of his coverage deficiencies can be covered up. His physical gifts could get him overdrafted, but he can become an eventual starter if he hones his ball skills and finds the right scheme fit.”

Deal is now in place: Saints and Tyrann Mathieu officially reached agreement on a three-year, $33 million contract, including $18 million fully guaranteed, per sources. Language still needs to be finalized and the deal signed. But Mathieu is returning home to New Orleans.

“A three-year starter for the Wildcats, Kinnard was a two-time All-American and earned ‘First-Team’ honors as a senior last season”
I think saying “no pass blocking skills” might be overstating a bit. My point is that if they are shifting to a run-first approach (which some are suggesting they may be for long term success), Kinnard at RT makes some sense. His draft profile is very similar to that of Orlando Brown, to be honest. The guy was a two-time All-American and is getting NFL comps of Cody Ford who has started in Buffalo since day one, albeit at OG. Maybe they move him inside and bump Thuney to RT to justify his salary. All I know is Kinnard has the nasty that Creed and Smith have…and that seems to be what KC brass is looking for.
Kinnard is capable of generating instant torque and movement on contact to displace defenders when he connects, and he has a mean streak to finish at a high level. However, his pad level and hand placement are extremely up and down, leaving him high, off-balance and struggling to control blocks consistently.
Overall, Kinnard’s size, flashes of jarring power and quickness are an intriguing blend of traits worth developing, but he needs to significantly improve his technique before becoming a reliable starter in the NFL
Yeah, I think Kinnard would have to show some amazing progress with pass-blocking before he wins the spot over Wylie.
Plus, I think the coaches really like Wylie. And he makes a good tandem with Smith on that right side, Mauler-Technician. Brown and Thuney make the same kind of tandem on the other side, and then Creed is the rug that ties the room together.
A (probably not so) bold prediction: Josh Gordon won’t make the roster. The WR is so crowded with guys who aren’t going anywhere (JuJu, MVS, Mecole) and young guys with potential (Moore, Ross) that there just isn’t room for an old guy who showed nothing last year.
I would tend to agree but the coaches and players all seem to love Gordon. I would move on but wouldn’t be surprised to see him make it. I wouldn’t be so sure that Ross makes the roster. The health concerns are serious.

Justyn Ross and Mike Rose are two of my favorite rookie acquisitions. Ballers.
Just watched Mike Rose tape…interesting. But my linebacker focus this year is going to be watching Leo Chenal shoot the gap supported by Gay and Bolton. But…watching the tape…he is immediately better than Niemann. haha.
Rose doesn’t flash off the screen a lot, but he’s always in the play. I think that most fans of the B12 schools would say that this guy was definitely a problem for opposing offenses.
he could pay off. He looks like a pure lottery ticket. Ross is a proven commodity with a video game QB…kinda the way Trey Smith was a proven commodity.

I can’t remember which one of you it was, but someone asked me who were some promising players KC could target after the draft. Well, we got one. KC signed Justyn Ross a 6’4 burner wr out of Clemson. Had he stayed healthy, he might have been a top 10 pick this year. Tons of medical flags on him. He might not ever recapture that same speed he once had. But if he does, look out, we got a player with DK Metcalf potential. Great dice roll (if it is even that) by Veach
Haven’t watched any of his film yet, but I don’t understand why guys like him aren’t taken in the 7th. Seems like a better lottery ticket than Jaylen Watson.
Put it to like this, if we had a 6th round pick and taken him there, I would have been stoked. So to get him for a chump change signing bonus is a really good deal
Very scary medicals…but 6th and 7th round picks are lottery tickets…did everyone forget that Trey Smith had blood clotting issues in his lungs…those are scary medicals.
Yep. It all depends on who is willing to take that flyer. Niang wasn’t even on the entire draft board of many teams due to his medicals. I agree with your assertion on the 6th/7th round though. Veach probably wanted to make sure he got “dibs” on those later guys and hoped Ross might still be around later.
maybe there is an unspoken code between GM’s on why to take a certain medicals guy undrafted. Maybe it was the rest of the GM’s giving The Jaguars a ‘gentlemans’ selection’ to see if they want to pair Ross back up with Lawrence. Thats why I want him…when you pair a healthy Ross up with a video game QB…he comes alive.
Anyone know what the scary medicals are? Heck, I have scary medicals but I’d have still been a bargain if they’d have signed me for a t-shirt and a taco…
He has a congenital fusion of his upper spine and a surgical fusion just below that. He came back a year later and was knocked out of the season with a foot injury. He has been cleared, but neck issues are, obviously, serious.
I’m with Tony…I don’t understand that either. I was on Brett Kollmann’s pod cast all draft…and for every 7th round pick….I was like come on Justyn Ross!
I unpinned this thread since it seems like there aren’t any new signings.

I didn’t include names who were listed as invites. Although some of these might turn out to be invites instead of actual signings.
Looks like overreaction season is here.

It’s great for new young QBs to have top level receivers to lean on while they get used to the league. Now Mahomes just needs to take the next step.
I felt that before the draft. I’m cynical on Skyy though.
Didn’t know there was such a thing.
Not used much. Likely a respect thing as to why it isn’t used more.
In Ingram’s case, I suspect that Ingram knew it was coming, so his agent could try to run up his leverage, with KC getting first refusal, but with insurance. some people will be very happy about this
Karlaftis has a good teacher
I am one of those people… if he decides to come back for another run.

“Clark not a mentor”

Keeping Ingram would be very nice for us. The defensive roster is starting to have some nice depth.
This had to be done. Glad to see it after nabbing only one DE in the draft.
If Ross’ health holds up the Chiefs got a top 15 WR. He has legit first-round talent and was the best WR Clemson had at one point.
Could be the steal of the last 10 drafts
I am not holding my breath considering how bad his issues are but damn the potential is there. Outside of MVS, Hardman, Moore, and Juju those last two or three WR spots are going to be fun to watch. Ross is a legit number 1 and honestly might be better than Sammy.

You get the odd RB or QB but usually UDFA WRs are lucky if they are number 3 guys.
Guys with this much potential usually don’t make it past the draft. His health concerns were just that serious. I’m kind of surprised that more teams weren’t willing to take a flyer on the guy though considering how crazy the wide receiver market has gotten.
He also ran a very slow 40 at his pro day. That probably confirmed some concerns that we won’t get his original athleticism back.
loading up on DB’s
and WR’s
Another tall DB. And big. I remember him as a draft prospect being talked about transitioning to safety.
“Long and tall with physical traits galore, Johnson looks the part but lacks the consistency and ball skills expected of a starting NFL cornerback. Another Charvarius Ward clone.
I wonder if Justin Reid talked Veach into trading for him.
Veach likely didn’t need much convincing. Failed former high draft picks are his favorite players.

could be another Tre Smith story. Some guy with medical who should have been a top pick and we get him for nothing
Kinnard specifically compared himself to Smith. This OL could be NASTY
I think Kinnard rides the bench for a couple of years. No pass blocking skills.
And you know how important that is around here
Unless they are serious about a philosophy adjustment and just want to maul people.
great run blocker but no pass blocking skills.

Offense is stacked!!
It is stacked. Really tired of see CEH on these lists like he’s done something.
CEH, Clark & Hardman will ball, this year Clark & Hardman want a huge contract after this year from another nfl team.
CEH will be like – the normal work force. When someone wants to TAKE your job — you either STEP UP or step out the f*cking door.
