Tuesday Night O/T: Former Chiefs OC Looks To Be on the Way Out in Chicago, and Another Primetime Game for KC

First up, Nagy, who appears to have overstayed his welcome in Chicago.

Not surprising considering their struggles, but it raises the question if he’d return to KC if Bienemy finally gets his chance at a head coaching job.

And in case you missed it, the next Chiefs game will now be on Sunday Night Football!

The beauty of simulation – I just eliminated three Raiders teams – led by Carr, Gannon, and Lamonica.

And of everyone on all three rosters, there’s only one who I feel some sympathy for. That’s because Gannon’s career was mostly being cast off, and then he landed in KC. When the opportunity came, he stepped in and outplayed Grbac. The Word back then was that you had to start your money, and Gannon found an opportunity to start at QB. It’s hard to blame the man for that.

Maybe Marty’s Most Moronic Move

Martys credo was you did not lose your job due to injury. Elvis could produce the statistics but Gannon had the leadership.

While I won’t say that Marty was not involved, I would instead term it Carl’s Cash Catastrophe. Peterson was not Marty’s subordinate, in any way, shape, or form. Ergo, the blame rises to his level, since we can’t know what Marty wanted, only what Carl did.

Holding someone responsible for things they don’t have the authority to stop is mostly a fool’s errand. How can those who have no ability to apply control over the outcome be blamed for it, because they were the ones most convenient for it? That’s like charging a sleeping passenger with murder because the driver fell asleep at the wheel, hit another car, and died while taking one or more other lives. Why, just to imprison someone who couldn’t have changed the outcome for feels and closure? That’s scapegoating, my friends. Authority and responsibility are inextricably linked, it’s a fact of life.

Think yes that Peterson was the one who most strongly responsible for Gerbac staying and Gannon leaving.
But it was a strange year as I recall. Gerbac had a good showing until he was injured and was good when he came back until the last game in the playoffs.
I don’t recall what he did the next year but Gannon was obviously the better QB in the long run and missed a 2nd SB appearance because of the Brady tuck rule call in the playoff snow game vs the Patriots

FYI for anyone interested – I just bracketed off the teams to continue the simulation – Mahomes and the Super Bowl Chiefs are in the same bracket as the undefeated Patriots who lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. In another bracket, Mahomes and last years team face Len Dawson and the Chiefs. Teams can be bumped into other brackets, depending on the results. Stay tuned.

Broncos have a good chance of beating the Chargers. Chargers are weak against the run which is the Broncos strength. Their defense could confound Herbie Rivers and Bridgewater is capable of having a decent game.

1. C CREED HUMPHREYKANSAS CITY CHIEFSPFF overall grade: 91.1
Humphrey continues to look like a seasoned vet in the middle of the Chiefs’ offensive line. If offensive linemen got their due, he’d be your front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He’s given up more than one pressure in only two of his 11 games this season.

10. G TREY SMITHKANSAS CITY CHIEFSPFF overall grade: 76.3
Smith had one of his best outings in pass protection this past weekend against the Cowboys. It was only his second game all season where he didn’t allow a single pressure. Already one of the best run-blocking guards in the league, strides in pass pro would go a long way for the rookie.

I think yes. Early on, Mahomes was in the habit of dropping deep after the snap, especially while in shotgun. That put Brown and Niang in a bind, because they’re power tackles, not the athletic ones we had in Schwartz and Fish. Speed rushers could just run past them because Mahomes had made it a footrace. Lately, he’s been much better disciplined about that, and while he’s still adjusting to the OL, and vice-versa, the progress has been clear.

And IMO, the OL hasn’t gotten to full cohesion just yet, either. Maybe they’ll basically be there by the end of the season, but if retain all five for next season, we should see a much better OL by opening day this season.

As for wanting to come back, I’d say if that means to playing in the NFL, then KC’s his first option. Last I heard him say was that he and his wife plan to stay in KC long term, and have been renovating their house with that in mind. I rather doubt that he’s down to the point where he needs to flip houses to earn money, so the implication’s clear, they’re putting down roots in KC.

True, but I think if he makes a full recovery, he’ll want to come back. If it happens this season, I could even see him acting as a backup RT who’s helping to coach up Niang, since that would extend his recovery time via the lessened stress and strain.

While Andy has taken some risks with flawed individuals, there are a couple of things to keep in mind, one being that they go through a vetting process, so he won’t give just anyone an opportunity, just because of their talent.

The other (other other, in this case, forgot point) is that he has boundaries you can’t cross. When Kareem and Britt crossed those lines, they were gone. Oh, yeah, and the point I forgot is that IMO he’s a really shrewd judge of character. I put that down to his aversion to lying, but few if any seem to agree.

And lying to oneself is the worst of the worst. I’ve worked for decades at prying out things that I believed that were just not true in my mind, but the hardest to evict are the malicious little self-deceptions that constantly undermine me.

When I talk about mental hygiene and the like, I know what I’m talking about. I’ve done the work and the learning, and I had to learn the problems of each one before I could evict them. I know what I’m talking about here, because for me, it’s always been a matter of survival. That goes rather deeper than a pop-culture understanding of things. (That was a gripe, not aimed at you)

That’s kind of associated with self-deception, because there are ways to forget certain things, but simply trying to keep a significant memory buried means that you are refusing to accept it happened and accept the self that did that thing.

From there, you have to consider how you have grown since then, and if there’s anything remaining to correct. Of course, all of that’s easier said than done, as I know well..

The thing is, there have been studies that have demonstrated that the more someone lies, the worse they get at detecting lies. In my view, that’s because the more you lie, the more you assume that others lie to you, then enter the Syndrome syndrome.

Because if you always assume that everyone you’re talking to is normal, like you, then they all lie just as much. The most dishonest you become, the less able you are to accept that there are those more honest than you are. If everyone’s equally dishonest, then nobody’s honest, on the extreme of that radar.

The smarter liars generally get the sense that honest people (mental infirmities aside) are harder to fool, so that may have aided you.

Me, I’m married to the factual, and those who aren’t prepared to argue strictly in terms of the facts don’t like that about me. But they believe they are using facts, because they are, but they won’t leave out the non-factual stuff. Nothing new for me, but it still sucks.
