Tony’s Picks: Championship Games

Tony tells you where to put your money for this week’s NFL games.

Last week: 3-1

Overall: 174-91-1

This week: 2-0

Buccaneers over Packers

There is one main question that will determine the outcome of this game. Was Rodgers’ poor performance against Tampa Bay in week 6 a fluke, or was it a result of their defense having his number? If it was a fluke Green Bay should have no problems winning, but if it wasn’t then it will be Tampa Bay who will have no problem winning. I’m a big believer in history, so I’ll lean towards Tampa Bay having his number (especially with Bakhtiari out) and go with them.

Chiefs over Bills

You can call me a homer all you want, but I’d probably pick the Chiefs even if Henne was starting. People have forgotten that Reid is known for making something out of nothing when it comes to the quarterback position, and the Chiefs still have a very talented team, not counting Mahomes.

With Mahomes likely playing the Chiefs are the obvious pick. They beat the Bills fairly comfortably earlier in the season in Buffalo, and with essentially 2 weeks off it’s virtually a guarantee that Reid and Co have already done homework on them. On top of that it looks possible (likely?) that Watkins will play, which would give the Chiefs an even bigger edge over their previous matchup.

Packers Chiefs

I’m more confident in the Packers than the Chiefs.

I want the Bucs to win so Mahomes can beat Brady in the playoffs.

I want Green Bay to win so KC can (finally!) beat ’em in the Super Bowl

That doesn’t stick in my craw, because I wasn’t alive then.

I don’t think the matchup that matters is Chiefs offense against Bills defense. Its Chiefs defense against Bills offense. The weapons on the Chiefs offense are prolific and can definitely win games with Henne. Mahomes gives a better point cushion than Henne, but it’s going to be all on the defense to hold them down.

Execution will be the key for the offense because the Bills D as speed and ball-hawks. But I do agree: the Chiefs D will need to play very well, especially the DL, and if they do then it should be in the bag.

From what I heard from the Locked On Bills guy, you are exactly right. They are a pass-first offense, so if our line can cause a lot of disruption while the back end is covering Diggs, we’ll have a good shot at victory.

If we contain Diggs well, it’s going to be basically impossible for them to win. Unless we royally fuck up and turn the ball over like 5 times or something.

All of the Bills receivers work together. Beasley’s good, so containing Diggs gives Beasley the slot routes like Welker had with Brady.

Yeah, he’s good, but that’s the “death by a thousand cuts” offense. I feel extremely confident that we can score TDs and hold them to FGs in that scenario.

Beasley is not healthy.

You need to go spin around in a circle 3 times and spit, now. Please.

Lost in the Bills win last week is the fact that (yes, the wind played a factor) Allen really did not perform well at all. Any kind of QB performance from the Ravens and that game is entirely different.

yeah, got a feeling there might be “a few” points scored in this one … in the Over/Under category, this has huge “over potential”

the Chiefs v Rams coupla years ago … what was that one? 55-48 or something ridiculous along those lines … not saying it WILL be like that, but if both QB’s are hot (and both D’s are not) it sure COULD end up with 100 pts scored (ps – take the “over”)

That was back when the Rams could score.

Same could be said for the FG Chiefs recently.

I predict it will be Packers v Chiefs in Super Bowl LV

Rodgers is the MVP and it’s not even close, and while Old Man Brady still has a coupla decent years left, he’s no match for the Laser-Guided Surgical Precision Weapon called “Aaron Rodgers’ Right Arm” … Green over Tampa in the Battle of the Bays
