Thursday Night OT: Broken Mahomes Wins AFC Player of the Month
125 repliesPatrick Mahomes wins AFC offensive player of the month for December. It’s the fourth time in his career he’s won the monthly award.
— Matt Derrick (@mattderrick) December 30, 2021
Mahomes has won 25% of the POTM awards he’s been eligible to win (4/16) and really, considering he missed games in October and November 2019, he’s won 4/14 for months he’s been fully healthy (29%). Ridiculous

Got to beat the best to be the best. Cindy is one of the best in the AFC.
Let’s go boys
A few people I know have the omicron variant, it spreads quick. Everyone vaccinated so mild symptoms, fortunately. If not vaccinated please do so for your own safety.
I finally got boosted *edit* this week (I’m a little high). could have been sooner
Watched the new Matrix movie today. Other than the over the top gun scenes enjoyed it.

I think the Chiefs have the better defense in week 17, we were not very good to start the season
I know I tend to be a broken record about it, since I’ve been going on about it for three seasons now, but it’s been true every year, for different reasons. It wasn’t really the case prior to ’18, but since then, the full-season stats are misleading, late in the season. The only way to really get a read on our team is to ignore the first half of each of those seasons.
Every time, we weren’t going to go very far, because look at those full-season stats, and yet we only missed 3 SB appearances by the slimmest of margins, once. In ’19, our D wasn’t going to be able to stop the Niners, and we saw what came of that. Next season, the smart pundits are going to say to hold on, if we have a rough start, because we’ve gotten things going for 3 straight seasons now, so you have to consider it as a trend.
But really, the reason they have kept getting it wrong is because they blindly trusted the full-season stats when they shouldn’t have. The first-half stats had little to say about 2nd-haf performance, but since the stats are established as a trustworthy measure, trust they get, even when they’re wrong. Statistics is only a tool, and as with any tool, you need to understand how it works. The pundits don’t, that takes mental effort.
agree
NFL teams are what they are in the 2nd half of the season, or in their playoff run
the Chiefs are undefeated, only Miami can claim that against the Chiefs this season
Yes, it’s true of all teams, but that normally is a variation within the limits of the stats. It doesn’t mean they’re spot on in every other case, by any stretch, but KC’s an outlier, for a number of reasons. Part of that’s due to the two reps we’ve been assigned, the first being a very good regular season team that gets nowhere in the playoffs, and the other’s been that if our offense isn’t producing the numbers it did in ’18, there’s something inherently wrong.
But over the last 3 seasons, we’ve had a complete defensive re-vamp, a season without an off-season that we needed more than most are willing to admit, and a season with a completely re-vamped OL. Each is a case where the situation threw off normal expectations, but people have clung to them anyway. This has been to the detriment of some of our players, figuratively, but very few are willing to chuck a comfortable, easy process. This leads to things like Hardman being expected to be fully up to 3rd-year standards of performance, without a full 3 years of development. CEH gets more of the same, plus the added resentment of his deciding to be selected with a tail-end Rd 1 pick, instead of waiting until later to be picked. Sheesh.
Missouri women beat No. 1 South Carolina 70- 69 Whoooooo
wow

Only the 3rd “bar needed” game this year, down here,
Hopefully not a radio Game for me…
expecting 3-5 inched of snow in KC and area on Saturday
so what the hell, roofwork 🙁
Why is a snowfall prediction like a blind date with a guy?
we get fucked?
You8 never know how long it will last, or how many inches you’ll get.
yep like that
remove a 50″ Tv
Repoint a sat dish on a bar
replace a 42″ touchscreen
besides the 200 miles of driving in between
that’s your Xmas bonus!
hahahahhahah
The current three seed is no other than your own Cincinnati Bengals. We are in late December and this team controls their own destiny. The path is fairly simple: Beat the Chiefs to secure the AFC North crown. If they are unable to win a third game in a row for the first time this season, the Week 18 matchup in Cleveland could very well determine whether they make the playoffs at all or not.

Seems the Bengals have not won three games in a row since 2015?
this is again one of those moments….
I am feeling better about this game every day
Chiefs go on a business trip and finish this season strong!

Ray Lewis talked about the maturity level needed for a matchup of this caliber at this point of the season. Will the Bengals be able to handle the ups and downs of the game – we certainly will.
I expect a great game
I imagine the Chiefs Defense is ready to prove something on Sunday
congrats to Patrick

I went to the Truman Library today. They recently finished a major renovation and it’s so cool now. Highly recommended for anybody who’s into that sort of thing.
I will have to check that out – been awhile since I have been there.
Anyone watching Yellowstone or 1883 ?
I’m on season 3 of Yellowstone, haven’t started 1883 yet
Yup. Good stuff
I want to
Yellowstone is very good.
1883 is early but promising (Sam Sheppard alone)
Mahomes is just fucking awesome, and there were so called fans wanting him benched and Andy fired.
They show up in the game threads just to piss me off. 🤣😂
I refused to be on the last game thread cause I am tired of them as well.
I’m done with game threads. They’ve always been extreme, but this season they’ve been absolutely no fun at all.
sure they are
no one is reading anything anyway
just reacting to the game at the moment
Ya, I can’t deal with it, everything is so negative. And there is absolutely no enjoyment in that …
The few morons remind me of my ex-brother-in-law. We always went over there to join the family to eat and watch the Chiefs – from Marty until the divorce from that behemoth. He got his rocks off rubbing it in when we were down and bad mouthing the players when we were up. Do not miss that crap at all.
Ya, no way I could deal with that.. good call on leaving that dynamic….
Then have fun
In fact, stayed away from here for awhile too for the same reason. This is a recreational activity and should be enjoyable.
the same people we talk all week with….
when shit goes bad then I log out
I have no idea what it is like to watch a game at a bar…….
I don’t have to worry about Jail or a beating though
I can live with people living and dying with every play – I am that way and I am sure many of you all are as well. BUT there are two or three people that do nothing but bad mouth the Chiefs the entire time.
Which is why I rarely joined in. I just refuse to give up on our team. Even with Alex I just refused. Joining in this season was definitely a mistake. 😁
Probably…..
This is what gets me. If they ever comment, it’s some ridiculously negative comment like “bench Mahomes”. Not great for my blood pressure.
Yeah that’s why I don’t hang around Game threads very often…
Never understood being online during the game. I’m busy watching.
what is the point of this site?
none during the game AFAIC
I don’t even check later, except 4th qtr threads for a victory sometimes, for the fun.
The people commenting are your readers all week long
how they consume your product is important
most of AG leadership does not participate in the threads
Different strokes and all, also:
I’m not a writer.
Having admin privileges is far from “leadership” (I’m just a sclhub who volunteered for off-season help that they let hang around 😊 ).
*editor privileges anyways
“Schlub”, he says, after pushing himself as hard as he could manage for weeks on end.
Don’t sell yourself short, amigo, you’ve done better than many of the writers here could have managed, back before they left. Some rightly so, some in a huff, and some just straight-up abandoned us and never looked back.
The last thing I wanted for AG was to try to keep a fading site going. If it would’ve prevented it from happening, I would’ve resigned, first, but am I net at fault, when my contributions and drawbacks are balanced? My parents raised me to take on all the blame, but if I’m trying to be honest, I think I’m more an asset than a detriment.
to both of you
You are doing awesome work
I love AG
I’ve said once tonight that Pomp has had experience with the daily grind, but hold that thought.
I’ve kicked it around in my head for a couple of years, so I’ll put it to y’all again: Could you hire someone to do everything I do at AG for $20k/year? I seriously doubt it, but others may disagree. The salient point is, of course, that I haven’t missed a day of contributions since I started the Afternights. Or so I think, at least.
I could not live on that
what about the dogs?
well the dogs needs get filled first
I swear I am the last to get anything 🙁
funny
I was talking to my son
My dogs live forever
Roxie was deemed to be born in 2004 or so
so 119 years old? Melanie 112, Milo
119 too?
The wife and I basically do. Oh, we live in a small rural town and have some disability bennies along with my checks, but even with that and a few more Gs per year, it isn’t easy.
I’m due a new set of specs, and need them, because the last optometrist screwed me over by not taking anything I said seriously. He followed his routines and got that sweet VA money, and I was left with useless frames. Yay. This time I’m going with my wife’s clinic, and they’ve done better, but I still have a misunderstanding I have to disabuse them of. Fortunately, these people are more inclined to listen.
My parents prolly think I’m just being lazy, and found a way to get by without working. If only they knew.
But they don’t, of course. They know all they need to know, which is probably why they tried to re-parent our adult youngest son, to the point where he feels relief, just from having moved to 30min away. His own, unprompted take tonight was that they see too much of me in him, more or less.
Reconcile with those people, after they’ve run off both of my kids with their selfishness? Fuck that noise, and if all their holdings, all that family land, gets sold off and gets wasted on some pet charity, so be it. I won’t knuckle under to them, and neither will the only grandchildren they’re going to have. Their vision’s going to come to naught, in the end.
A fair point, but I’ve been avoiding the negativity, too. It would be better if I were setting an example, perhaps, but I’m also considerably sensitized to that sort of thing, and I’ve been working on recovery for months and months.
It’s only in the last month or so where I could bear to watch any football clips at all, and I still have to avoid the bicker-fests. For those who’ve been keeping score, that goes along with me finally being able to write again, at least a little.
Wish I could’ve done more and could do more, but it’s a process, one that’s been going on since August, but that’s after pushing myself close to the breaking point for about 18 months. And that on top of taking on an increased workload to ensure we were hitting the three posts per day mark. Ask Pomp, that much grinding takes a toll on a body.
*may be partly why they are leadership?
it is sorta your consumers, you should maybe interact with your customers?
Are we still talking game threads? If so, it’s prob better they don’t.
I don’t, but if I ran the place I would not either.
yes just game day
we only have like 20 or so of them
Well come on board, plenty of room for more crew, we have cookies
I have Wichita
he has bags of cookies:)
how much of a cookie do you recommend?
we all have our crosses to bear
When interacting with your customers is likely to cause mental health problems to flare up?
I’ve been half-killing myself to keep this rolling, but don’t expect me to double that effort. 😉
I usually am watching the game myself, which is in a room in the other side of the house away from the computer. I usually sneak back to the office and check the boards at halftime, but other than that, until the game is over, I’m more interested in it. Of course this weekend, since its not showing in my area, I’ll be “watching” it with Mitch.
Dolphans demanding the best TV – and sound….then playing pool for half the game
fuckers
I am being a bitch
but I don’t mind interacting with the debbie downers
I am not sure what I see is world beating football knowledge so I like to talk to other Chiefs fans as the game unfolds
not much different than being in the stands….
cept for the replays and analysts telling me what I have just seen
Truck driver sentenced to 110 years for the crash in Colorado had his sentence reduced to ten years by the governor.
That’s a bad deal all around, I don’t understand why the fucker didn’t pull off the road when he could.
It is a slap in the face to those who lost someone in the crash.
Yes sir… I’d be pissed…
When your brakes fail, I doubt the first thing on your mind is putting it into the ditch at high speed.
EA called it a slap in the face, but there was no malicious intent. Drunk drivers don’t get 110-year sentences, nor do many that’ve killed others.
What do people expect, public execution?
They make off ramps for that, and he passed them up willingly…
Tom
has thought through all those options as he drives
some do and some don’t
tough call to make, guy was a rookie from what I’ve heard.
Wraps? I heard he was offered a plea deal, and IIRC it was for longer than 10 years.
Besides, if you were in his shoes, and offered to plead it down to a couple of dimes and a felony rap, would you just take it, like you’re an actual criminal? Not your truck, you don’t maintain it, but the brakes failed – and it’s all your fault now, or was it an accident?
When you’re faced with every charge the prosecutor can tack on in order to drive you to a plea bargain, do you capitulate, state in open court that you’re a POS criminal and deserve life in prison, plus cancer, and are lucky to only lose a couple decades of your life by admitting how bad a person you are, get back to me. Rhetorically speaking, of course, but that’s how the 110 sentence came to be. Even the judge in the case said it was too much, but legal requirements tied his hands.
And people are unhappy that he won’t die in some hellhole after decades of living as a subhuman? Not me, that’s for damn sure, and I’m speaking as someone who lost his little brother to a traffic accident. The teenager shouldn’t have been riding his motorcycle, he wasn’t licensed, but am I unhappy that he didn’t serve a day for it? No, because it would’ve served no purpose, something I understood when I was seven.
Others have their own opinions, but I have direct experience plus decades of studying how the legal system actually works. Torturing someone for something that you weren’t even involved in, just so you can feel good about someone getting punished, is not a road I care to walk. If you punish someone and it makes things worse overall, does that make the punishment good anyway? Not in my book.
Agreed, 10 yrs seems legit, 110 for a very bad mistake seem excessive. Civil suits may come as well, if not for him, for the company.
A wildfire in Colorado in the winter? Two cities needed to evacuate? Doesn’t that seem kind of odd?
Just seen that , absolutely horrible. Houses going up one after another.. 80 mph winds .. that sucks ..
