On Sunday, due to the decent weather and my itch for grilling, I made another batch of wings for the family — I didn’t tell Tony because he would have told me to put it in “Man Time Mondays” and 1) I have my own feature to write, thank you, and 2) my recipe is proprietary.
Needless to say, after months of oven-cooking and stovetop prep, getting some good ol’ grilling in was good for the soul. I even switched up my recipe a tad and caught the family by surprise. Speaking of surprises …
Sunday was also the last day of baseball for the Royals in Surprise, Arizona. Admittedly, I have been a bit behind this year, but I hear Dozier is knocking it out of the park.
Was that cliche? That was probably cliche …
Another Surprise That Took Me Off Guard
Did you know Michael Buble sang more than Christmas music? Neither did I …
One of the cool aspects of my job is that I get to go to a ton of interesting places and witness the inner workings. Last week I stopped by the Sprint Center and was able to see them setting all of this up for the famed singer. It was pretty sweet to see it all come together.
I still wouldn’t buy his album, but it was a fascinating visual to say the least.
On A Much Sadder Note …
I try to always keep things lighthearted, being a blog dedicated to entertainment, but it would be hard to talk about our city and surrounding areas without mentioning the elephant in the room:
Most of you are already aware of the events taking place, so I’ll spare the word space. Just keep in mind that if you have any time or resources to help lend a hand where you can, there are countless families that could use the assistance. Red Cross has a hotline to call should you feel moved to donate: 1-844-278-8555.
There is a sliver of silver lining though:
Gettin’ Shwifty At Shorty’s
Bringing things back into a more upbeat light … many moons ago — seriously, it feels like months — Tony and I decided to run by a hidden gem in the Strawberry Hill area. The place is called “Shorty’s Pizza,” and it’s probably one of the cooler places I’ve ever been in Kansas City.
The establishment is run by John Stoner, he of “cat-body-suit” fame, and he (and his daughter) were gracious enough to chat with us a bit about his food, fandom, and phenomenal atmosphere. Check it out below (and, ya know, subscribe …)!

You can base your opinion on their accuracy, fandom, other — uh — reasons, whatever you want. For me, I’m going with Gary for his Chiefs fanaticism. Anyone who listens to 810’s Border Patrol will note that he is a fantastic presence during the morning radio talk show.
Plus he has cool dogs.
You know the drill — much talking of the town in the comments below!
