Sunday O/T: Exclusive AG Sneak Peak!

Arrowhead Guys provide a sneak peak at their new upcoming series.

Welcome to another Sunday edition of the O/T, the most bittersweet of all O/T’s, for it marks the dwindling hours of what we once knew as our weekend. That said, we’re here to send it out on a high note with an exclusive sneak peak at our upcoming series, “A Progression of Greats” chronicling the greatest Chiefs to ever play the game in 60 years of club history, by position. First up, Interior Offensive Line:

Turn the volume up and try not to get chills

This series is the collaborative effort led by Sabres and including the contributions of Video Editor Caleb, KCH1EFSFAN, Tony, Clay and myself. In true Arrowhead Guys fashion its a brilliant example of what can be accomplished with team work. We’re all very excited to roll this out to you, beginning tomorrow.

Stay tuned for this historic multimedia experience, coming soon to an Arrowhead Guys near you!

Tossing out for discussion: While it’s not exactly science (except, of course, everything is literally a science subject in some way), it crossed my mind that I’ve learned a good deal about how to do mental math. Therre’s more skill to it in relation to talent than most people realize, and skills can be learned. Ask any guitar player who knows they lack the talent to be great but have put in the effort to get good if learning to do it was a waste of time.

Anyway, how do y’all like that as a SciSat topic?

I think it’s a good idea. It might also be good to mention that for the basic things – addition, subtraction, etc. – it’s a lot easier to think of the math in terms of money (i.e. “What’s 434 minus 78?” – rather than just shouting out random numbers, I think of this in terms of dollars, and I find that 98% of the time I’m able to come up with the right answer in her head without a calculator or anything like that).

I’m not sure why, but I think that money is the easiest to work with because it’s something tangible, and it’s more universal than “widgets.” Not everyone knows what a widget is, much less cares what a widget is, but everyone cares about money.

Thing is, this’ll be a longer-term project. Like a lot of things in my head, I know them when I need them, but I have trouble remembering them all. So it’s have to come together bit by bit, and not right now.

I don’t usually open a lot of the music links posted by folks here – songs are intended to pull your emotions around, after all, so I’ve learned to be cautious – but for some reason I went with this track from Beachbeard. Not my style of sound, but I hung in there until it cli9cked and it blew me away. So here’s to you, you big beautiful Beach.

As I said, this one completed a trinity for me than I never really was a trilogy missing a member. More like a duet in nned of a back-up singer when I gave any thought to it. As Dolly said of Whitney’s cover of I Will Always Love You, “I didn’t realize until I heard her that I realized that I had written it for her.”

Takes class to look at it that way. Heard that Reznor felt something kinda-the-same-but-not-exactly about Cash’s cover of Hurt.

The government in the US spends more on healthcare per person than the UK government does, even though the UK has free healthcare. The UK also has better health outcomes.

there were 2.7 Billion people on this planet when I was born — now there are 7.53 Billion
I think we wore this ol’ planet out!

and could be 8.5 Billion when I leave (God willing)

When healthcare is a for-profit venture, you get drug companies and others advertising directly to patients/customers who generally have no medical training being told they need a particular medicine. Customer then asks for said medication or procedure to treat said “problem” and the businessman (doctor) obliges or risks losing a customer.

Talking about the defense, you know that last year was a bit of a disappointment, how different will it be this year? What will you bring to this new defense?

I don’t know if that will be a lot different… The whole thing about the 4-3 or 3-4 defense really pertains to base defense, and in today’s football we don’t play a lot of base defense, we usually have a lot of what we call sub defense, with nickel and dime, I think a great number of defenses in the league play that way 70% of the time. So everybody is kind of playing the same way.

I think there will be a couple of nuances and changes with this new group of players. There will be some carry over to what they did last year, but we will find out later, we have a lot of new players in the defense now. We’ll find out what each of them are very good at and try to feature those qualities on the field.

The Cardinals selected Mathieu and Okafor in back-to-back rounds back in the 2013 Draft, kicking off a stretch of four seasons together. The duo is now reunited in Kansas City, and it appears Mathieu is pumped about it.

Speaking only of the man and player and not the contract, I don’t get why some people seem so down on this guy. I’ll grant that this is a highlight reel and that the plays he’s making mostly don’t jump off the screen, but I see a lot of things in him that I like. Sort of like a Maslowski, if Maz had enough talent to be good, plus the same sort of attitude and intelligence.

I think his second paragraph here says a lot beyond the meaning of the words. It’s easy to dismiss as “just coach-speak”, and that’s true, but doesn’t go far enough. It’s Coach Reid-speak. That is how Andy has operated since arriving in KC, and probably well before that. Maximize their players strengths and minimize their weaknesses via scheme and design, emphasize what they can do that most can’t, and teach-teach-teach, then teach some more.

And while many were dismissive of my message about Reid-speak, preferring the less mentally demanding category, that dismissiveness made me pay closer attention to how he speaks at press conferences. Here’s the thing: Reid never lies there. He can make mistakes, or lack important information, and things like that, but he never lies, pure and simple. He’s bland, sure, because that goes with the territory, and he’ll steer things away from things that he want to keep private or secret, but gently and subtly – with exceptions.

Another characteristic is that he keeps responsibility upstairs while sending praise downstairs. That doesn’t mean that he hauls all blame to himself, it means that the higher up the food chain you go, the more you are responsible for. And while he doesn’t give the most praise to the best players, any player who puts in an exceptional effort is likely to be praised, the praise doesn’t go to talent very much. And if he’s like that consistently, those are powerful leadership traits.

Royals beat the Jays in what’s probably best described as a slug-fest, 7-6. Keller gave up a Slam, but our batter responded immediately and kept the pressure on to garner the last two. The pen, on the other hand, gave up a run but otherwise stood tall on the mound, and then the team put them away for good.

With all of your understanding and support I find that I’m making better progress than I’d expected when it comes to working on my psych stuff. It’s generally not the sort of stuff that merits much comment, but I assure you that I have noticed all of it, and from so many of you that sorting it all out individually is impossible.

So thank you, one and all, for being the best community I have ever belonged to – because you’ve all made me feel that I belong. The value of that to me is too great for words.
