Saturday O/T: Afternoon To Afternight

Even if you’ve got a Saturday night special lined up, there’s still time available to converse with fellow fans. Here’s the place for it.

Here’s another selection of diversions and distractions, but the real content will be the contributions of the willing.

It’s your OT, use it wisely.

With that, time’s yours.

going way way down an alley here, got to thinking (always dangerous) about old Cowtown Ballroom in KC, found a story about the “early days” of Cowtown, and lists shows 71-74 (a few of which I attended)

like this one, wasn’t at this one, but still, good stuff: Paul Butterfield with Foghat, Ted Anderson, and Mark Almond 3/15

Roy played an “off the shelf” Tele w/o foot switches. Tom Morello, a guy you would expect to have all kinds shit takes a similar approach, had a custom built then decided to set the settings and not change them in 20+ yrs, only 3 foot switches, the same ones forever (replaced or rebuilt I’m sure).

L’Jarius Sneed
KC • CB • 38
View Profile
Sneed made some plays for the Kansas City defense over the first three weeks of the season before the 24-year-old suffered an injury. He missed seven games before returning for the end of the regular season and the postseason. The Louisiana Tech product recorded a sack against the Bills and Browns in the playoffs after registering three interceptions in the regular season. The Chiefs do not have any cornerbacks with a secure long-term role, so Sneed should capitalize.

Mike Tomlin still confused over how Chiefs’ Eric Bieniemy wasn’t hired as a head coach
Tomlin spoke out in defense of Bieniemy, who was passed over for a head coaching job again
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/mike-tomlin-still-confused-over-how-chiefs-eric-bieniemy-wasnt-hired-as-a-head-coach/

“Bieniemy is a real head-scratcher for me,” Tomlin said on the lack of minority head coaches hired in the NFL, via Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Every offensive coordinator Andy Reid has had in the last 20 years got a head job. One of those guys, Brad Childress, hired me in Minnesota in 2006. Now, Andy has the best offense he’s ever had and [Bieniemy] can’t get a job?”

LESEAN MCCOY
RB, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
comment image
Impending free agent LeSean McCoy said he plans to play next season.McCoy wants to sign with a contender or somewhere he can serve as veteran depth. There’s unlikely to be much interest after McCoy looked washed in the 10 games he appeared in last year, but with Super Bowls in back-to-back seasons, some team may be willing to give him a non-guaranteed deal. McCoy turns 32 in July.

Maybe we should sign him, he has played for the last two Super Bowl winning teams?

Hardest of passes, he was washed even before he came to KC and the fact that hes Reids boy and yet was left inactive for the entirety of the playoffs ought to say what even Reid thinks of him

DREW BREES
QB, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
comment image
A video posted by Drew Brees’ trainer showing the quarterback working out has raised questions about Brees’ intent to retire. The trainer, Todd Durkin, posted a video in which Brees pushed a weight sled — hardly the exercise routine of a 42 year old getting ready to retire. The workout video was full of cryptic comments from Durkin, who said, “Don’t know what he’s doing, I’m not sure what he’s doing. Never quite been done before! That’s a new record because it’s never been done before!” while Brees pushed a sled across a parking lot. Saints head coach Sean Payton said nearly a month ago that he expected an announcement from Brees on his future with the team. That announcement never came. With Brees’ salary already slashed by $24 million to allow the Saints to carry a reduced cap number until June 2, the Hall of Fame QB would theoretically play for a base salary of $1.075 million if he shirks retirement. For fantasy purposes, Brees coming back for one last run with New Orleans would make Alvin Kamara a top-2 pick in 2021, while Michael Thomas would be far less desirable than he would be with Jameis Winston or another signal caller with more arm strength than the aged Brees.

A free Agent?

HUNTER HENRY
TE, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
comment image
The Athletic’s Sheil Kapadia believes Hunter Henry could get $10.5 million a year in free agency. Kapadia said Austin Hooper’s 2020 deal with Cleveland could be a fair comp for what Henry might fetch on the open market. Henry, 26, was franchise tagged last year. Henry, who averaged more fantasy points last season than all but nine tight ends, could see significant interest from teams who see him as a matchup nightmare against slower linebackers and smaller safeties. Ex-XFLer and touchdown machine Donald Parham could get a real shot at the Chargers’ starting tight end job if Henry signs elsewhere this offseason.

GERALD EVERETT
TE, LOS ANGELES RAMS
comment image
The Athletic’s Sheil Kapadia believes there’s a “good chance” Gerald Everett will be “viewed as a starter on the open market.” Everett in 2020 saw as many targets as Rams teammate Tyler Higbee despite running fewer pass routes. Now a free agent, Everett could land on a team that sees him not as a No. 2 tight end, but a starter. Last year, Everett averaged 7.97 PPR points in games where he saw at least five targets. “If a team thinks there’s untapped upside,” Kapadia said, “a deal in the neighborhood of $7 million to $8 million per year could be in play.” Higbee, signed with LA through the 2023 season, would presumably see more opportunity if Everett signs with another team, though that’s far from a guarantee.
