Welp, it appears we’re stuck on 6 UDFAs for the Chiefs for a while.

Should usually be a total of, what, around ten, twelve?

Would love for them to grab Darius Stills if he’s available. Good depth for the DL.

Chiefs UDFAs so far, from what I can tell: S, CB, CB, LB, S, QB.

…One of these things is not like the others.

Winner: Kansas City ChiefsThe Chiefs did not have a first-round pick after sending it to the Ravens in the trade for Orlando Brown Jr., but they did extremely well on Days 2 and 3. They continued beefing up their offensive line on Friday night, adding Creed Humphrey to help on the interior. Their first pick of the draft, Nick Bolton, was excellent value at No. 58, but they landed still more value on Saturday by getting Florida State edge rusher Joshua Kaindoh in the late fourth, Duke tight end Noah Gray in the fifth, and both Clemson receiver Cornell Powell and Tennessee guard Trey Smith in the sixth. They filled their biggest defensive needs (linebacker, edge), added more depth on the interior of the offensive line, and got themselves a nice developmental prospect behind the best offensive weapon (Travis Kelce). Not bad for a weekend’s work.

Eh. They move around. Just trying to think of the non-Clark DEs who might take over for Okafor as the “designated other starter.”

Maybe throw Tim Ward in there, after his week 17, if we’re being really optimistic.

just get players capable

I knew the first time I saw Kelce catch a pass in space in a preseason game. He had wideout speed in a TE body and he out ran everyone in Cinci’s defensive backfield. I drafted him in the last round of my fantasy draft and never looked back. My bartender gave me free draft beers for months for turning him on to Travis before his fantasy draft.

170) Garret Wallow, LB, Houston Texans (via Jaguars through Rams)The Texans stay in-state and grab one of the more instinctive linebackers in this class. He finds the ball and is proven to be a productive tackler. There isn’t a ton of depth on the Texans roster, so he’ll have a chance at seeing significant reps on defense in 2021 but will need to make his mark on special teams to solidify his roster standing.

Loser: Raiders‘ 2019 first-round picksThe then-Oakland Raiders had three picks in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. They used the No. 4 overall pick on Clelin Ferrell, the No. 24 pick on Josh Jacobs, and the No. 27 pick on Johnathan Abram. Ferrell wasn’t even the best edge rusher the Raiders drafted in 2019 (Maxx Crosby), and the team ended up using a third-round pick on Malcolm Koonce this year. The now-Las Vegas Raiders spent $14.5 million on Kenyan Drake to complement Jacobs, and also dramatically downgraded along the offensive line by moving on from four of their five starters. Oh, and they drafted not one, not two, but three safeties this weekend, indicating an extreme lack of confidence in what they have at the position.

Despite having Jacobs — who’s topped 1,000 rushing yards in each his first two NFL seasons — atop their backfield depth chart, the Raiders were aggressive in pursuing Drake, giving him a two-year deal for $11 million guaranteed that includes up to $3.5 million in incentives. That’s solid money in the current running back free agent market, which suggests that coach Jon Gruden will look to find different ways to use Drake as a chess piece in the Las Vegas offense.

One of the best players not to get drafted cashed in as soon as the 2021 NFL draft came to an end.
Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson signed as an undrafted free agent with the Browns and got a $30,000 signing bonus plus $162,000 of his base salary guaranteed, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
That’s a massive guarantee for an undrafted rookie, and evidence that Wilson had multiple teams bidding on his services. Some players are, by the seventh round, hoping not to get drafted because the best contracts for undrafted free agents are better deals than seventh-round picks get. Wilson will get a much bigger guarantee than he would have received if he had been drafted late in the seventh round.
