Good morning, AG!

Today in Chiefs’ history, Wilbur Young (DE/T 1971-77) was born in 1949, Anthony Fasano (TE, 2013-14) in 1984, and in 1993 the Chiefs trade for Joe Montana

Elsewhere, in 2021, Derek Chauvin, a former police officer, was found guilty of killing George Floyd

2008: American race car driver Danica Patrick won the IndyCar 300, becoming the first woman to win an IndyCar championship event

1999: Two disgruntled and heavily armed students entered Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, and murdered 13 people before killing themselves. Congress quickly took action to prevent such occurrences from happening in the future, making schools a safe place for our children. Just kidding. They did nothing and shootings became so common we now have “active shooter drills” in schools.

1947: Jessica Lange, who was known for her versatility and intelligent performances, was born

1914: Striking miners and their families in Ludlow, Colorado, were attacked by the state’s National Guard and company guards; 25 people were killed, including 11 children, and the massacre resulted in a bloody retaliation by other miners

1912: Navin Field (later called Tiger Stadium) in Detroit and Fenway Park in Boston officially opened as both hosted their first professional baseball games

And finally, sadly, lastly and least, in 1889, Hitler was born.

The News, and more than I expected, too…

Chiefs reiterate plan to “look at our options” after failed stadium vote | PFT

The month began with the Chiefs’ failure to secure public funding for a renovation of Arrowhead Stadium. Speaking this week at the CAA World Congress of Sport, team president Mark Donovan reiterated that the Chiefs will be considering their options for the future.

George Brett shares thoughts on Royals’ future in KC after stadium tax failure | KC Star

Hall of Famer George Brett didn’t have an opportunity to cast a ballot earlier this month for a 40-year sales tax that would have helped pay for a new Royals stadium in the Crossroads. But Brett believes the idea of the new stadium was a “no-brainer,” a thought he shared Wednesday while on Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s SiriusXM show

What the Chiefs should prioritize in the NFL Draft — and why this one is significant | Wichita Eagle (I had to open this in DuckDuckGo to get around the popups)

Here’s the thing, though: The Chiefs have already broken the NFL championship mold. No, not by winning back-to-back Super Bowls — nine have accomplished that — but rather by how they’ve won them.

Will Chiefs look to trade up in NFL Draft 1st round? Here’s what GM Brett Veach said | KCStar (Again, DuckDuckGo and no popups)

Kansas City Chiefs seventh-year general manager Brett Veach has previously been open to trading up in the NFL Draft to get the player he wants. So, given the Chiefs’ current roster depth and draft capital available, is it likely Veach will look to move up in the first round this year from the 32nd pick?

Brett Veach: It’s “probably a little bit harder” to trade with fellow AFC contenders | PFT

Because the Chiefs have been such consistent contenders at the top of the AFC since Patrick Mahomes became their starting quarterback in 2018, it’s changed a bit about how other contenders might deal with them.

While the Chiefs are expected to draft a wide receiver in the first round, they could swerve to fill a massive hole on the roster. As it stands, the Chiefs don’t have a viable starting left tackle to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ blindside.

Did they forget the “T” in this headine?

Andy Reid expects Kadarius Toney ‘to come back ripping’ for Kansas City |

When the 2023 NFL season ended, it didn’t appear an unreasonable assumption that wide receiver Kadarius Toney would never play for the Kansas City Chiefs again.

Addressing the media before the draft, Veach spoke about two of his young wideouts who are coming off rough 2023 seasons.

Taylor Swift Is A Football Expert, According To Patrick Mahomes | The List

In her 2023 TIME Person Of The Year interview, the “Lover” hitmaker admitted that she wished she’d found football earlier in life because she had such a blast at every game. Her growing passion has not only intrigued fans but also Chiefs co-captain, Patrick Mahomes. Speaking to TIME himself, the quarterback offered some insight into how the “Cruel Summer” singer discussed the beloved sport behind closed doors. “Even when she’s talking about football when she’s learning it, you can see her business mind putting it together,” he gushed.

Also football related: how much of a drop-off in performance was there between LTs Donovan Smith and Wanya Morris? If their performance was relatively similar then does this take any pressure off grabbing a LT in the first round of the draft? My assumption is that Morris will get better (he’s young) while Smith likely has already given the best he has (he’s older). I am certain the O Line will be addressed in the draft, just not sure if this needs to be done in the first round. Sure, it would be nice to get Alt, Guyton or Mims but without trading up that won’t happen (and I’m guessing Veach is likelier to trade down than trade up). And with all these supposedly good Tackles in the draft, won’t there be serviceable plug-ins available come roster cut-down?

I wouldn’t mind that, in fact I’d be thrilled, it’s just not what I’m guessing will happen.

Both Smith & Morris were ” Meh ” IMHO last Year … The Chances of a Rookie being More Than that diminish as the Rounds Go By Traditionally … Take the OT @ # 32 ( Or even Trade Back for More Picks since the Draft is not @ KC this Year …

Football related: I haven’t been able to find any update on S Bryan Cook’s rehab from his ankle injury, I sure hope he’s able to resume his upward trajectory, he was becoming a very solid contributor.

I hope you’re correct and I’m assuming the same. Still, defensive secondary needs to be addressed in the draft, and with Mike Edwards signed elsewhere, Cook’s recovery impacts Veach’s potential move for CB, S, or a hybrid.

Non football related, folks so inclined in California, Nevada, Tennessee, Texas, Colorado, Florida, Carolinas, Massachusetts, New York, and DC, along with BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario will have some great hockey to watch: the first round of the NHL playoffs begins tonight and there are several teams with legitimate hopes of raising Lord Stanley’s mug. The first round often is the most exciting so buckle up puck-heads!
