Funeral attendee William Menefee Norment recorded: “Before the sermon and while the crowd was gathering, a wicked parrot that was a household pet got excited and commenced swearing so loud and long as to disturb the people and had to be carried from the house” (the little bugger:  serves him right)
1752 Benjamin Franklin tests the lightning conductor with his kite-flying experiment (do NOT try this at home!)
1692 The first victim of the Salem witch trials, Bridget Bishop, is hanged for witchcraft in the colony of Massachusetts (they should’ve hung the hangers, would’ve served them right)
1540 Former chief minister to King Henry VIII, Thomas Cromwell is arrested in Westminster for treason and heresy (serves him right)
1190 Third Crusade: Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa drowns while crossing the Saleph River (modern Turkey) leading an army to Jerusalem (serves him right)

And now, the news  …

Most of the NFL’s major offseason moves have already been made ahead of the 2024 season, with the opening of free agency and the NFL Draft far in the league’s rearview mirror. However, a few noteworthy veteran players remain unsigned. As the Kansas City Chiefs attempt to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat, KC’s running back room still seems to have room for another addition.

Never gets old.

With regard to Thomas Cromwell: a flippant “serves him right” is misplaced and does not apply – see the movie “A Man for All Seasons”.

Oops, my mistake, I was thinking of Sir Thomas More. I withdraw my critique, offer my apologies, and will slink off and deal with my surly mood of this morning otherwise – maybe dead-head some peonies and irises.

I am glad to hear that Rice has learned and will be maturing but I hope the Chiefs pass when it comes time for the 2nd contract. Let someone else take that risk.

Talk is cheap true repentance is shown through fruits. In other words time will tell if he is truly trying to mature or not. I’m not against keeping him if his words prove to be true. We all deserve an opportunity to learn and improve from our mistakes. I’m sure his behavior is going to effect his earning potential regardless of who he is playing for, if he is still playing.

If he goes and gets himself suspended, he doesn’t get paid. I’m sure there would be clauses in the contract too. There’s financial protections for the team against him continuing to be a bonehead. If he continues to develop into an upper tier WR AND stays out of trouble the next 2-3 years, they would be dumb not to extend him
