Chiefs news for Jan 23, 2023
Good morning, AG!
Today in Chiefs history, in 2000 Derrick Thomas is left paralyzed in a car accident. In 2009 Herman Edwards was fired as head coach. On a much happier note, the Chiefs beat Bills in OT in maybe best game ever, to advance to AFCCG in 2022
In other history, it was a bad day to be famous. Larry king, Jack LaLanne, and Johnny Carson all die, in 2021, 2011, and 2005, respectively.
1997: The Age of Aquarius dawned, some astrologers believe, because for the first time since 1475 a number of planets, the Sun, and the Moon were aligned in a perfect six-pointed star in the first degrees of Aquarius, AND Madeleine Albright, who had earlier served as U.S. ambassador to the UN, assumed under President Bill Clinton the office of secretary of state, becoming the first woman to hold that cabinet post. Coincidence? You decide
1986: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland inducted its first class, which included Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Elvis Presley.
1977: The TV miniseries Roots, an adaptation of Alex Haley’s best-selling novel, debuted. It became one of the most popular TV shows ever, and like most other wildly popular TV shows, I never saw any of it
1964: With the passage of the Twenty-fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibited the federal and state governments from imposing poll taxes before a citizen can participate in a federal election, the US finally decided charging people to vote wasn’t the best way to promote Democracy

Clearly, the stakes are a little different from that West Side evening adult league flag football game against the team captained by the person that robbed you of that promotion three years ago. So the Kansas City team trainers may try to push the timeline earlier, much earlier, depending on what Mahomes can handle. This will mean that Mahomes will definitely not be 100% for next Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Ideally, you want to have full range of motion and full strength in the ankle before returning. You’ll want to make sure that your balance, coordination, and proprioception are back to normal.

We were robbed of the story we should have received Saturday — the best player on the planet trying to bounce-back from the worst game of his life. It was a pretty compelling one, too. This was, after all, his first playoff game since that second-half collapse against the Bengals in last year’s AFC Championship Game. That’s the story we wanted. Not the one we got.
