West – Chiefs: This is the best division in football. Might not be all that close. Could make a case for any of them in the postseason. But I still believe Kansas City is the top club. They rebuilt the offensive line in 2021 and I believe they have done enough to improve the defense this year. Yeah, they lost Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu, but I bet they stay a little more balanced on offense and, unlike the rest of the division, they are playoff tested.

Well, since you agree that we have the best team in the division, and the division’s the best in the NFL, doesn’t it follow that we should be power ranked at the top? Asking for a friend. 😉

What other division would you put up as the best? All four teams are at least good. Heck, the raiders made the playoffs. Everyone always loves the bolts, and the donks are now everyones darling with Wilson. NFC? None of them are good top to bottom. AFC? Same.
The West is easily the best in football.

GOOD EVENING GUYS! AND A GREAT DAY FOR ALL OF US:

PRESENTING – The newly published book of Chiefs’ Poems and Song Parodies reflecting last season. Also, just so you’re aware – Lulu says that their system automatically figures out sales tax. HOWEVER, the charity has a legit IRS tax exemption letter. Lulu said that they are happy to refund the sales tax when possible.

You’ve all been waiting patiently for this. Thank you to all – especially Rip58, Wichita and everyone else who has supported my efforts in this regard. Here’s hoping this becomes the hottest Chiefs’ item of the offseason and a great fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of KS & MO.

The Arctic convoys of World War II were oceangoing convoys which sailed from the United Kingdom, Iceland, and North America to northern ports in the Soviet Union – primarily Arkhangelsk (Archangel) and Murmansk in Russia. There were 78 convoys between August 1941 and May 1945,[1] sailing via several seas of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans, with two gaps with no sailings between July and September 1942, and March and November 1943.
About 1,400 merchant ships delivered essential supplies to the Soviet Union under the Anglo-Soviet agreement and US Lend-Lease program, escorted by ships of the Royal NavyRoyal Canadian Navy, and the U.S. Navy. Eighty-five merchant vessels and 16 Royal Navy warships (two cruisers, six destroyers, eight other escort ships) were lost. Nazi Germany‘s Kriegsmarine lost a number of vessels including one battleship, three destroyers, 30 U-boats, and many aircraft. The convoys demonstrated the Allies’ commitment to helping the Soviet Union, prior to the opening of a second front, and tied up a substantial part of Germany’s naval and air forces.[2]

PQ 17 was the code name for an Allied Arctic convoy during the Second World War. On 27 June 1942, the ships sailed from HvalfjörðurIceland, for the port of Arkhangelsk in the Soviet Union. The convoy was located by German forces on 1 July, after which it was shadowed continuously and attacked. The First Sea Lord Admiral Dudley Pound, acting on information that German surface units, including the German battleship Tirpitz, were moving to intercept, ordered the covering force built around the Allied battleships HMS Duke of York and the USS Washington away from the convoy and told the convoy to scatter. Because of vacillation by Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW, German armed forces high command), the Tirpitz raid never materialised.[2][3] The convoy was the first large joint Anglo-American naval operation under British command; in Churchill’s view this encouraged a more careful approach to fleet movements.[4]
As the close escort and the covering cruiser forces withdrew westwards to intercept the German raiders, the merchant ships were left without escorts.[5] The merchant ships were attacked by Luftwaffe aircraft and U-boats and of the 35 ships, only eleven reached their destination, delivering 70,000 short tons (64,000 metric tons) of cargo.[6] The convoy disaster demonstrated the difficulty of passing adequate supplies through the Arctic, especially during the summer midnight sun.[7] The German success was possible through German signals intelligence and cryptological analysis.[8]

I think 3-4 of them (McDuffie, Karlaftis, Chenal and Kinnard) will be starting by the end of the year, if not right away.

Moore will have to earn his way into reps, but that’s ok, we have some vets to make things easier if he takes a bit to get up to speed.

I like what I’ve seen of Cook. Could be a solid situational player, if he grasps the playbook quickly.

Pacheco’s got an uphill battle, but I like what I’ve seen of the kid. Hope he can make an impression.

The rest of the DBs have some potential in various ways. May the best man win.

And that’s not even touching on the potential surprise player or two from the UDFA class.

tell me about Rose

or this guy

Cochrane’s Midwestern roots and hard-nosed play style intrigue fans and interest Kansas City. The team has some room for depth in the position, despite drafting Wisconsin linebacker Leo Chenal at 103rd overall.
Cochrane is a fundamentally sound player, excelling in pass coverage and cleaning up tackles. He posted two 100-tackle seasons for South Dakota and four interceptions in the 2021 season alone. Cochrane was a three-time team captain during his four years, speaking to his leadership qualities.
He was not a highly-touted prospect in the NFL draft, primarily due to his lack of long speed and underwhelming size. However, Kansas City has made similarly profiled players excel in the defense, only exciting fans further. He is a great competitor, something that Kansas City has prioritized in this rookie class.
Cochrane is a high-octane player and will certainly excite fans this offseason and preseason.

Another linebacker for Steve Spagnuolo to get his hands on. Rose will join Chenal and Cochrane for this rookie class and provide depth behind Willie Gay and Nick Bolton.
four-year contributor for Iowa State, the SAM linebacker accumulated over 320 total tackles with 41 for a loss (49 games). He also chipped in with 8.5 sacks and six interceptions. Zierlein called him a “physical blitzer” but a “liability in coverage.” He concluded: “Rose has a chance to become a backup 4-3 Sam or 3-4 inside linebacker but his lack of pursuit speed could hinder his upward mobility.”

I think Ross is gonna be our X WR this year

https://www.fieldgulls.com/2012/7/17/3165517/breaking-down-the-x-z-and-slot-receiver

“The X receiver is the split end. He is the widest receiver away from the tight end. What’s unique about him, — as opposed to the Z receiver, who is the flanker, and the other wide receiver — is that the X receiver, in most formations, and of course, there are a lot of exceptions, but in most formations, the X receiver, the split end — and those expressions are used synonymously — he is tethered to the line of scrimmage.”
“He’s on the line of scrimmage, he cannot go in motion, and so, when he’s facing a cornerback, as he almost always is, the cornerback can jam him at the line. So, your X receiver, he better have the profile of a guy that has the speed to get down the sideline, he better have the quickness to get away from the corner, and he better be good coming off a press.”

Even with the whole Clemson offense taking a step back in 2019 and in 2021, Ross still looked like a viable NFL wide receiver. He has the potential to be a true “X” receiver as a possession receiver from the slot or flanker position. Ross has faced more man coverage than any of the top receivers in this year’s draft class. 55 percent of his targets per route have been against man coverage, per Sports Info Solutions. He has also produced against man coverage, with an average of 4.75 yards per route run against man coverage – again, more than the top receivers in this draft class.

George Karlaftis always brings his relentless energy
Karlaftis has spoken about his relentlessness with the way he plays football. Well, that relentlessness doesn’t seem to have an off switch, at least not according to Chiefs HC Andy Reid.
“Yeah,” Reid said in a breathy voice. “He goes 100 miles per hour.”
While Karlaftis has been a clear standout at camp, Reid and Steve Spagnuolo actually had to get him to slow things down during walkthroughs. He was just bringing that relentless effort and going as if it were a fully-padded practice.
“Walkthroughs, everything, we had to slow him down,” Reid continued. “But, I’ll tell you, it looks like he’s got a nice feel for the game. We put some fire zones in yesterday and he moves around well when he’s in space. He’s got good hands it looks like. . . but that motor is probably the thing that jumps out at you. He goes and goes.”
