Just watched this, and I swear to god, Patrick almost looked smug about the addition of Bell.

Toughest game should be the Buccaneers – I think we destroy Raiders – sweep Broncos, face a ready for the off season Chargers, and show Brees that it is time for him to retire. 10-0 or 9-1 is not unrealistic here as long as we bring our focus with us. Problem is that we do not face Pittsburgh or Tennessee so we need help in passing them for home field advantage. Steelers face the Ravens twice and the Titans whereas the Titans face the Steelers, Ravens and have Green Bay late in the year.

From ESPN (before the game) CEH on the hot seat and could be replaced in the lineup soon – I understand the Bell thing but they sure got burned on that take.

Lazy journalism. Anyone who follows the Chiefs knows Bell is intended to take Darrel Williams’ snaps, not Clyde’s. And Darrel, BTW, also had his best game of the season.

Darwin Thompson also had two good runs – seems like and and Williams are battling it out for the third back on the team.

I think they knew the game plan was run-first going in and knowing that really motivated them. That, plus Eric Fucking Bieniemy, their OC and former hard-nosed running back. I think they were all fired up for this one, and then they feasted, building on each success. There may be aches and pains, but I bet they’re feeling good tonight.

From ESPN – Patrick Mahomes quickest to 90 TDs (37 games compared to 40 for Marino) another Patrick moment in the NFL

To be fair, the Bills coaching staff did not do much to help him out.

My son spoiled it for me in a round about way. He has no poker face, so when I got home and he’s happy, I knew it was a good game.

I remember a Marty game where the Chiefs ran almost every play and were dominating the game. The color guy [Fouts maybe?) kept saying they would have to start throwing eventually. The play by play announcer said, “Why?” This game felt like that.

if the OL keeps blocking like that, Bell is gonna get paid next year by somebody, hes gonna look like a complete monster

I do wonder how much of it was all the shuffling on the O-line. They may have trusted the run blocking more than the pass blocking, then stayed with it because it was working.

Cowboys getting jobbed so hard so many blown holds on ari plus the egregious pi to give ari the ball

I’m not gonna say that it was definitely DPI on that INT, but I will say that if it had been flagged, it wouldn’t be a controversial call.

I’ve been saying since back at AP that the NFL has created that situation by its constant fiddling with how plays are called. So much judgement is involved that a high level of consistency is impossible to achieve. There are things they could do beyond leaving the rules alone for some years, but unless they stop it, the weird differences between zebra herds will continue.

The refs piss me off, too, but they ain’t the root cause of the problem.

The referees’ union negotiated severe limitations on the league’s ability to punish poor performance by officials in their most recent contract. So they have little incentive to be consistent. I agree the league makes everything more complicated than it has to be, but the refs really don’t seem to care.

Oh, undoubtedly, but if you stop to think about it, if the league’s fucking with the rules so much that it’s impossible to call things consistently, I’d want protection from being punished for not being able to do the impossible.

So even if the refs collectively don’t care, that’s still a product of the NFL’s fiddling with the rules. Don’t mind me, though, I’m a bit pedantic at times. 😉

Oh, it’s a chicken and egg question as far as I’m concerned. Plenty of blame to go around. It is interesting, though, how much more effective the officials’ union is than the NFLPA.

Yeah, I getcha, and I’m not really arguing so much as presenting my case. To add to that, IMO the NFL is the only entity who is necessarily a part of the change needed, that means it falls primarily on them. No improvement is possible without the NFL buying in.

One of the funny things about me is that on the system level I attach responsibility to authority, not individual behavior. I’ve been in situations where we had to scramble to mitigate bad decisions by the mucky-mucks, and our performance suffered because of it. Therefor it stands to reason that while our performance fell off, it was not our responsibility. That goes to the higher-ups who controlled the circumstances. There’s a reason some franchises are perpetual dumpster fires: their owners. QED.

Assuming the Cowboys lose, they’ll be 2-4 and leading the division and in the playoffs, while the Cardinals will be 4-2 and the last team in with the 7th seed.

I look forward to seeing a 5-11 team host a playoff game. But only if the owner has to wear a clown suit.

They’ll do better than that if only because they get 6 games against the NFC East, but 6-10 might be possible.

If the Cowboys win my W-L pick result will drop to 7-7, which is atrocious. I’ve also hated that team since the 80s, so let’s GO, Cards!

I’m the same. The secret is that on any given week your win-loss record depends way more on how many favorites win than on your skill. Everybody had a bad week because there were a lot of upsets.

Good point, I need to give that aspect more considerations in the future. That said, I’m not really very invested in my record here, though I do indulge a little, just for fun. My main goal is testing out my system for simplifying the week’s picks that produces results while knowing little about the teams involved. Working quite well, so far.

It’s so much harder to focus on the MNF game when the Chiefs just came off a big win.
