Jaylen Watson was born on September 17, 1998, and grew up in Augusta, Georgia. In Augusta, he attended Lucy Craft Laney High School, where he played basketball and football. In football, he played wide receiver and defensive back and was named All-Region 4-AA Offensive Player of the year.
He started his college career at Ventura College, where he was named Junior College Bureau All-American after making 30 tackles with a sack and an interception. His sophomore year there where he had 43 tackles, 13 pass breakups, four interceptions and a fumble recovery. He then signed a national letter of intent to attend USC, but did not enroll and de-committed, and signed to transfer to play at Washington State. After redshirting the 2019 season, he was the starting cornerback for the Cougars and named honorable mention All-PAC- 12 Conference in a three game COVID shortened season. He repeated as honorable mention in his final season.
He was chosen in the seventh round of the 2022 draft by the Chiefs.
