Pretty ridiculous that the California boxing commission sanctioned this bout, let alone the ref not stopping it after the second knock down. Say what you will about Jake Paul, but he has dedicated himself to boxing.
But it was beautiful seeing Iron Mike back in the ring today. From boxing technique, he looked more focused and disciplined than he has since ’86. Obviously age slows things a bit but a puncher never forgets for to throw em and I felt bad watching 51 year old Roy Jones Jr take some bad intent buddy shots from one of the strongest punchers ever. It was a sort of redemption arc for him that was beautiful to see. He seems happy.
IMO Tyson’s lack of discipline was his downfall, though Don King owns him a ton of dinner and movie dates, too. But once it was demonstrated that if you could play the long game you had a decent chance of winning, his days as the undefeatable were done. From what I’ve heard about what he’s done with himself, I’m not surprised that he came out prepared to be a disciplined boxer, perhaps just to demonstrate to himself that he’s capable of it now. Good for him.
As for the specific topic, I don’t know that the Commission’s at fault here. At minimum the promoter bears some responsibility for not making sure both men were on the same page, and his corner did, too, for not seeing where things were going. Pointing a finger at a single element tends to let everyone else escape accountability, and I don’t even need to have watched more than the KO clip to see that. Ref’s in a sticky situation, if he says he wants to continue, so he’s likely the least culpable element, followed by the Commission. They weren’t tasked to provide ring oversight here.
The Jake Paul stuff is interesting. He’s a YouTube eceleb but he has dedicated him to the craft, Werth amateur and pro bouts under his belt. Nate Robinson should’ve never got sanctioned for a pro fight sans headgear with no amateur headgear fight on his record. That’s the problem from a boxing perspective.
And the ref absolutely should have called after the second knockdown. Don’t get me wrong, I feel for refs who have to try calling such a spectacle of a bout, but they also need to know when a guy is making his professional debut w no amateur career and save him from his own hubris.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the ref’s hands are clean, but this was supposed to be a charity card, right? If he called it too soon, it might hurt the cause, and this wasn’t presented as a pro competition or personal grudge match. That’s what made it sticky, like walking through ankle-deep molasses. The promoters still bear the majority of the blame on that one for not ensuring that both parties were adequately prepared. If Paul showed up for a fight and the other guy for a sparring-match-plus exhibition, that’s hard to blame on the ref. He’s most visible, not most culpable.
I’m mostly just dropping this here for future use, but not as taking a shot at those who don’t see the appeal of music reaction videos, but as a way to try to help them understand it, even if they don’t care for it themselves. This one’s a considerable outlier, since the host is reacting to Sultans of Swing for the second time, but this time to a better performance of a song he already liked. Not that I think anyone will, but trying to say he’s just putting on an act is merely a lazy brush-off. Guy gets his mind blown multiple times over a song he thought he knew – and it’s like nothing he’s ever experienced. A new generation is rising, so how’s that not a good thing?
If I’m still around in three years, my psychic war will have been raging for 50 years. My first year of PTSD I spent going to grade school with kids who soon discovered that it was a lot of fun to trigger me. Tears, rage, or anything else, since I was too small to do any damage, but I’ll put that out there who come after me on that front, because I’m still here. Considering the hell I’ve lived through, I’m a remarkably decent man. Those addicted to going after others on an ongoing basis are the polar opposite of me, and I have been clear about it since I joined, I don’t want to play that game. I’m too good at it, but it’s bad for everyone when it’s game on. Anyone who has a shit list of other community members that they’re after had best fold it up and stick it where I can’t see it, but I digress.
I don’t care that there are people who wish me ill or want me to stop serving this community. I have tons of experience with people who decide they need to hurt me, but don’t bring it, because I don’t want it, I want the community to thrive. If you’re against that, go away.
This is included in the twitter sidebar, but it’s well worth the watch in a more convenient format. Also, I’ve been talking about that topic for some time now, how Patrick’s greatest asset lies behind his eyes. Where most young NFL QBs break down isn’t physically, but mentally, and Pat’s already at the mental level above most starters. Remarkable, but having a memory that good certainly helps.
Does anybody remember that late night concert show that used to air Fri or Sat.?
No hosts as I recall, just concert footage.
I do remember this or Baba Oriely every week.
On that note, I grew up with one of the coolest local station kids’ cartoon shows of all time, Captain 11. Ran for 41 years, not to mention he’d make public appearances, too.
“The show opened with an animated space scene, slowly zooming in to the Captain’s space ship, with this charge voiced over:
“Captain 11! Today’s man of the future!”
One man in each century is given the power to control time. The man chosen to receive this power is carefully selected. He must be kind. He must be fair. He must be brave. You have fulfilled these requirements; and, we of the Outer Galaxies designate to you the wisdom of Solomon and the strength of Atlas. You are Captain 11!
No. It was all filmed concert footage or one of the few music videos of the era. Show was done on the cheap, mighta been produced by a regional college, every week at least a coulpe vids were the same as the previous show.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3.5 vs. Kansas City Chiefs There’s not a matchup tougher for the Chiefs’ offense than the Buccaneers’ defense, which has the speed and playmaking ability to neutralize even the best attacks. Betting against Patrick Mahomes is almost never advisable, but a poor Buccaneers performance in a 27-24 Monday Night Football loss to the Rams as 4-point favorites pushed this spread over 3 to make it a must-take.

I assume this us off the board now
Broncos (+13) at ChiefsThe Chiefs destroyed the Broncos by a score of 43-16 last month, but I have reason to believe this matchup will be a bit closer this time around. Drew Lock was just returning from his shoulder injury back in October, and this Broncos team finally created some momentum for themselves with a 20-13 win over the Dolphins last Sunday. Defeating the Dolphins probably doesn’t sound like an incredible accomplishment, but up until this past week, rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was undefeated. Additionally, last Sunday marked the first time head coach Brian Flores ever failed to cover as a favorite. I do not anticipate the Broncos giving the Chiefs a run for their money in Week 13, but I do think 13 points is too big of a spread.

Eric Bieniemy, Chiefs OCYou’ve likely heard it before, but it’s worth repeating: Eric Bieniemy should already be a head coach somewhere in the NFL. Kansas City’s offensive coordinator has Patrick Mahomes and company looking like they are playing Madden at times and the franchise looks poised to seriously defend their Super Bowl LIV title they won a year ago. Allowing Bieniemy to work with offensive talent like Matthew Stafford, running back D’Andre Swift and others would be fascinating. He’s likely going to be a number of teams’ top option so Detroit will need to make a compelling pitch to sell Bieniemy on helping the Lions turn things around.
Despite not having a quarterback to go under center on Sunday, the Broncos will not be forfeiting, per Schefter. As for what the next steps are at figuring out a plan at quarterback, Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado notes that receiver Kendall Hinton will play plenty at quarterback on Sunday. Hinton played some QB at Wake Forest and completed 53% of his passes for 1,504 yards passing, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Other options include third-string running back Royce Freeman, who is the emergency quarterback for the Broncos. Denver could also run a Wildcat offense centered around Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon if they so chose.
Not for the players on the other team, though. No play, no pay.
As for the schadenfreude around the Steelers having a player pop positive for Covid, if what I’m hearing is true and that player’s recovered from cancer already, I can’t feel good about it at all. I know what chemo did to Mrs BRaG’s immune system, so I sincerely hope he’ll be OK.

puuuurfect fit
Eric gets a top notch QB to run his Offense in the other league
He’ll need a really good GM, though, things are bound to be a mess there.
Cheerio. my good man
it would seem the playoffs are going to 8 teams per conference with 2 byes
Tea time maybe…….
The Broncos and the Ravens are toast
goes well with Tea
my Good man 🙂

Who goes magnet fishing on the Red river in Fargo, and in November? These guys, apparently.
Trivia bit: Fargo’s almost a degree of latitude south of me, so they’ve got it a bit warmer there. 😉
