Your Kansas City Chiefs won the coin toss and elected to defer looking to set the tempo on defense right away, and they did with a three and out. Patrick Mahomes looked deep early, but two missed strikes downfield to Mecole Hardman forced an eventual punt. The rare early-game sack by Frank Clark forced the Bucs to punt it a whopping 33 yards setting the Chiefs up with good field position that they turned into a 49 yard Harrison Butker field goal. Thanks to a holding penalty on Bashaud Breeland, the Bucs were able to extend their drive resulting in the ever-disgusting Brady-to-Gronkowski touchdown.
The second quarter opened with the Chiefs going three and out, followed by a 27 yard punt and a personal foul penalty on Chris Jones shortly after, setting the Bucs up at midfield. A deep strike to Mike Evans put them at the 6 but after four downs later the defense held for a turnover on downs. Another failed Hardman target ended the drive and penalty on a perfect punt forced a second which was another dud, this time for 29 yards out of the endzone. A million penalties led the Bucs right into the endzone to go up 14-3. The Chiefs offense sprung to life on the following drive, but pressure by the Tampa front won out and Kansas City settled for another Butker field goal. An ill-advised timeout on 3rd down did Tampa a favor, but not as big of a favor as the refs, who escorted the Bucs down field and into the endzone with a series of Pass Interference penalties on uncatchable passes, amongst other flags thrown. The Chiefs went into the locker room down 21-6
The Chiefs opened the second half with a 52 yard field goal after footing issues from Hardman and Kelce stalled what looked to be a promising drive. To keep true to the game the Bucs answered with a touchdown. Feeling the pressure to make magic, Mahomes had a pass deep to Hill deflected at the last moment and intercepted, making a comeback seem ever so unlikely. The Bucs turned the INT into three.
After that? Mostly just Patrick Mahomes running for his life, making incredible plays just to get the ball out, only to be let down over an over by his teammates. I can’t write any more about this.
See you next year, Refs.
