BRaG’s Bar And Grill: Buffet

I’m not in the mood for conflict, so have some football.

I’m not feeling it for WTW, so here’s a selection of Chiefs-related videos for your enjoyment.

The offense is a bit of a concern, but there is some promise there. Here’s a chance to talk about it.

I’ll mention it again tonight, but as an FYI I’m going to start being a bit more diligent about archiving OTs every morning so that actual articles that people work hard on (like Nate’s from yesterday) don’t get washed out so quickly. These threads aren’t deleted, just archived, so if you want to see them just select Open Threads on the menu at the top of the page.

is there a way to have a sidebar of “featured” articles? or “pin” it to the top of the main menu so they aren’t “lost in the daily shuffle?” what Nate does, especially, is a gift …

another thought: do we NEED the Mid-Day (WTW or Monday Mechanic) every day? (Side Thought: so much whining from “some” about lack of football content, and I get it, but are some of the mid-day interludes doing anything in that regard? I mean, WTW is NOT football … not sayin’ just sayin’) Another thought is the “late late late” into the afternight OT … I know it’s easy to set-up and just have the post timed, but is it more of a hassle (to BRaG) than it’s worth?

just tossing out VERY random thoughts to see if anything sticks to the wall (yours to clean, of course … I’m just passin’ thru)

I think those non-football ones are fine little distractions for the offseason. I’m undecided if I’ll archive those as well and consider them OTs.

That way we don’t really need a “Featured Articles”, although it might still be a good idea for articles that are particularly good that we want to highlight (like Nate’s).

I agree. The non-football ones can showcase some of our non-football-writers’ prowess and/or let them get their feet wet during a time that there isn’t much at stake.

fair nuff and yes, you are wise beyond your years (not bad for a 5 year old!) 😉

There’s also this, if anyone is interested in seeing a (very) preliminary list of our Chiefs by jersey number:

The offense may be a concern, but I wonder if the Hill trade was a blessing in disguise. I (and many others here, who know more than me) think that he’s starting to lose his speed – his quickness has probably peaked and will only plateau from here on out. And Moore looks like a steal.

I myself am looking forward to the linebackers. I don’t think we’ve had three strong linebackers since the 90s. As Nate’s excellent post yesterday said, the game has changed in the last several decades to be more offense-centered, and “linebacker” doesn’t necessarily mean what it once did as teams evolve the passing game, but I’m looking forward to seeing these new pickups in action.

agree on LBs and really pumped for the potential of Gay, Bolton and Chenal (and Rose and who knows who else)

agree on Moore being potentially super-good soon, and no concerns about the offense

one thing I’ve not liked is the “talking heads” who say “Veach paid too much for McDuffie” (in terms of draft picks) … I totally disagree, and I’m of the opinion that yes, CBs do count for a lot in this league

if the D can lock down the run, and can get even a decent pass rush going, and if the CB’s/DB’s are as good as we’d like to think they are … could be one hella good year for Spags and crew

we shall see

I agree that CB’s are becoming really valuable with the prolific passing attacks in the league right now.

Matt Derrick was on Locked-On Chiefs podcast and made an interesting point that we loaded up on CB’s and S’s for this reason. He also said that we prioritized CB over DE because of this reason.

Good coverage can lead to sacks from average DE’s, which becomes increasingly important when QB’s can get the ball out in 2 seconds.

last season our D-Line got to QB in 2.5s which is really good, just didn’t ring up the sack totals, but there WAS pressure … the issue was the Secondary not covering well, and thus too many passes completed (even under pressure) … I don’t really care about sacks, I care about “stopping the other team’s offense”

the only “stat” that REALLY matters is the final score

Well said, and agree. I’m actually bullish on the pass rush especially with Karlaftis.

How much of that -2.5 second completion % rests on Sorenson and Niemann? We now have 3 LBs that are, at a minimum, serviceable in zone coverage and a 3rd safety that sounds like a legit enforcer. I think we’re going to see a big change in that % this year.

I agree with everything except that I think Hill has so much speed and quickness, he can slow down and still be the best.

We will miss him, especially on those 3rd and 4th downs when we would toss to him in the flat. He’d almost always find a way to make the 1st down even when it looked like he’d take a loss.

True. He has good, quick feet, and his route running also deserves a nod.
