With The 11th Pick Of The AG Mock Draft The Giants Select:
3 repliesArrowhead Guys, making a mock of the mock since 2019.
Before I announce my pick here I want to make one caveat first: If given the opportunity, I would have done everything possible to trade up as far as possible for a QB. With the Jaguars not taking Trevor Lawrence, maybe they would have been open to trading down. I would have been willing to give up 3 first round picks if that would have gotten a trade done. With that out of the way, let’s get on to the pick.
The Giants have a lot of needs, but I’m taking this opportunity to fill the void that there has been at wide receiver since Odell Beckham Jr was traded away, by taking the best receiver in the draft, DeVonta Smith.
The consensus seems to be that Smith is the third best WR in the draft behind Ja’Marr Chase and Smith’s Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle. The Chase comparison is irrelevant since he’s already off the board, and I’m not convinced that Waddle is better than Smith. The knocks on Smith seem to be that he’s too lightly built, and not as athletic as Waddle. I don’t buy that. Smith’s light frame has not been an issue so far in terms of staying healthy (in fact Waddle is the one who has been injured), and it hasn’t been an issue for him beating defenders. I think DeVonta Smith will be one of the best receivers in the NFL once he has a decent QB throwing him the ball.
I’m taking the guy who put up 1256 yards and 14 TDs in 2019, and then backed that up with 1856 yards and 23 TDs in 2020. His last 3 games were the SEC championship (15 REC, 184 Yards, 2 TDs), the Rose Bowl (7 REC, 130 Yards, 3 TDs), and the National Championship (12 REC, 215 Yards, 3 TDs). He’s 6’1, he’s athletic, he’s the best route runner in the draft, he’s a big game player, he’s a Heisman Trophy winner. He’s my pick at number 11 for the New York Giants.

Does New York still have a team?
Great pick. I love Smith. His three-game run to end his college career was the best three-game span I’ve ever seen from a WR. I understand the concerns that some people have with his small frame, but man, the guy gets open every single play.
