Week 3 NFL Power Rankings

The official Arrowhead Guys NFL Power Rankings.

Tier 1: The Super Bowl Contenders

1: Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 1)

The Chiefs offense has looked rough the first couple games, but I have faith that they’ll turn it around. You’re not going to have 17 games of mediocre offense when Mahomes is the quarterback and Reid is the coach.Β

But the defense has been absolutely dominant. Excluding a pick-6 and a field goal off turnover where they didn’t allow a 1st down, the defense has allowed 20 points in 2 games. That is going to make the Chiefs hard to beat if they can maintain it into January and February.

2: Buffalo Bills (Last Week: 3)

This is why you don’t overreact to one bad game. Yes it was just the Raiders, but the Bills showed that they’re still a good team.

3: Miami Dolphins (Last Week: 4)
4: Baltimore Ravens (Last Week: 5)

Tua put up great efficiency numbers last year, and through 2 games that hasn’t stopped. If he stays healthy, and if Mahomes doesn’t decide to go Super Saiyan the rest of the year, there is a very real possibility that Tua will be the 2023 MVP.

Tier 2: The Playoff Contenders

5: Dallas Cowboys (Last Week: 6)

Is it time to move the Cowboys up a tier? Yes it was just against the New York teams, but outscoring your opponents 70-10 is seriously impressive no matter who they are.

6: San Francisco 49ers (Last Week: 7)
7: Green Bay Packers (Last Week: 8)
8: Cincinnati Bengals (Last Week: 2)

Maybe they’ll rebound when Burrow fully heals, but right now it looks like his injury is seriously effecting him. If he doesn’t turn it around soon the Bengals could be on the outside looking in for the playoffs.

9: Los Angeles Rams (Last Week: 10)
10: Philadelphia Eagles (Last Week: 9)

There should be alarm bells going off in Philadelphia. Their 2-0 record masks how unimpressive they’ve been against inferior competition. The weak schedule continues this week against Tampa Bay, but they will eventually have to improve their level of play if they want to return to the Super Bowl.

11: Los Angeles Chargers (Last Week: 13)
12: Detroit Lions (Last Week: 14)
13: Seattle Seahawks (Last Week: 15)

I’m very upset with the Seahawks. I spent all offseason hyping them, then they tricked me into thinking they suck against the Rams, only to reverse themselves and beat the overrated Lions. If they played this game week 1 I would have made money picking them as an underdog. I should sue, anybody know a good lawyer?

14: Atlanta Falcons (Last Week: 20)

Coming into the season I was skeptical of the Falcons, but acknowledged that they had potential. They haven’t been dominant or anything, but they have looked liked the best team in the NFC South.Β

Tier 3: The Less-Than-Good Teams

15: Washington Commanders (Last Week: 11)

I’m still unsure on Washington. I think I may have had them a bit too high last week. Yes they’re 2-0, but two narrow wins over two of the worst teams in the NFL is not impressive. But it’s not the end of the world either for a borderline playoff team. So it’s more information needed before we can peg them (not that way!).

16: Tennessee Titans (Last Week: 15)
17: Jacksonville Jaguars (Last Week: 19)
18: New Orleans Saints (Last Week: 18)

I felt I was the only one who picked the Titans to win the AFC South over the Jaguars. While it’s close, I think the Titans beating Los Angeles while the Jaguars losing to the Chiefs on a day where we seemed to be sleepwalking confirms that.

19: Las Vegas Raiders (Last Week: 12)

Ok I was a bit too optimistic about the Raiders. I don’t know if they’re quite as bad as the Bills made them look, but good teams typically don’t get completely embarrassed like that.

20: New England Patriots (Last Week: 27)
21: Carolina Panthers (Last Week: 17)
22: Houston Texans (Last Week: 21)
23: New York Giants (Last Week: 22)
24: Indianapolis Colts (Last Week: 23)
25: Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 24)
26: New York Jets (Last Week: 6)
27: Cleveland Browns (Last Week: 29)
28: Pittsburgh Steelers (Last Week: 25)

29: Denver Broncos (Last Week: 30)
30: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last Week: 31)
31: Arizona Cardinals (Last Week: 32)
32: Chicago Bears (Last Week: 28)

I decided to get rid of the bottom tier. The Bears are maybe close, but I really don’t feel like any team is truly terrible this year. This marks a couple years in a row with a lot of parity. No teams that are all-time great, but no 1-31 Browns either.

If McCaffery stays healthy (huge gigantic if) they are really good. I’ve been skeptical of Purdy, he may be the real deal.

The dolts have always been half a team. If one side of the ball is really good the other side doesn’t really exist.

The Cowboys should be ranked #1.

They have a scary defense and the offense is clicking. I don’t expect them to win the Superbowl because Dak and McCarthy will find a way to screw it up, but they are clearly the best team right now.

Agreed. They will regress, but for now that is correct

I think Tony’s rankings are based on potential for the whole season rather than who’s hot right now.

When I first started getting interested in this here game a colleague at the time said “it’s the same every year, the Redskins win the offseason and the Cowboys win the fall. Neither are there in January”
