Will be TONS of these mock nfl drafts
..
..
NFL.com’s Chad Reuter projected Kansas City to trade three picks (including No. 32 overall) to the Green Bay Packers to move up to No. 25 and select Florida State WR Keon Coleman.
..
..
ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. rated the 20-year-old as his sixth-best wideout in a deep position group. In his final season with the Seminoles, Coleman tied for 11th in the FBS in receiving touchdowns with 11 in 12 games. He could become a difference-maker under head coach Andy Reid.

He’s gotta have a head to learn Reids system. not all do. I don’t know a thing about him, but that’s a consideration.

In fairness to Kyle, it seemed he expected both offenses to produce so opted to set his team up for sudden death. Unfortunately he lost that gamble when his team failed to score a TD. I think the bigger mistake was him kicking a FG in OT.

hoosierchief
Reply to  Leaf
02/21/2024 7:58 pm

TBH, his defense had been on the field for a lot of plays in the last few minutes. If they’d have had to go out there again, the Chiefs would have probably marched right down.

Leaf
Reply to  hoosierchief
02/21/2024 8:07 pm

True, but that’s kind of my point. He saw how gassed his D was and expected KC to score, which is, by his explanation why he wanted to be first when sudden death started. If you use the argument that he should have stop let them go first so he knew they needed a TD, KC would have had the ball in sudden death (unless he gambles the entire game on going for two like KC seems to have planned). Is a tough call, and choosing either way could have cost his team the game and he would have been ridiculed for it. I think he actually gave SF the best odds to win by going first, but he needed to be aggressive to stay ahead of KC. going for the FG killed any advantage he hoped to gain by being aggressive

I agree. It was a bit of a surprise they were able to stop them and force the field goal.

it’s a 50/50 proposition …

Snafu had aa ridiculously excellent article in the MH today by Bill Barnwell (via ESPN)

Shanahan’s D was gassed, and had he gotten TD instead of FG, KC would have HAD to score a TD + 2 Pt conversion (otherwise Niners get it back for true Sudden Death OT)

the real bottom line: KC executed better than SF when it mattered the most … tip of the helmet to Reid, Spags, every coach and player

pretty much sums it up.

02/21/2024 8:32 pm

For sure. And Kyle going for the TD might have backfired and they end up with zero points. I guess I just don’t get all the people that want to claim it was such a bad decision. It was an aggressive one, and after he made it he should have stayed aggressive as that would have given him the highest possible chance to succeed. But at the end of the day it’s a moot point as like you pointed out, we out executed his team.

even getting FG almost “forced” the Chiefs to be aggressive, and had they not gotten even FG it was gonna be as good as over with Butker anyway

Leaf

02/21/2024 8:40 pm

Again look at how gassed their D was. And this is Mahomes we are talking about. He knew what he was facing and fully expected them to score. So he gambled. As with any gamble, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. He lost this gamble, but I don’t think taking that gamble was a bad choice. It’s not always going to be that way, but in the SB against Mahomes, with a gassed D? Yeah you take that gamble

We’ll probably never have enough real world data to analyse, but I’d like to see maybe some simulated data on which option is more likely to lead to a win.

I agree that both kicking and receiving have their own benefits.

If you have 2 absolutely unstoppable offenses, getting the ball first will always win.

Leaf
Reply to  Tyrone
02/21/2024 8:43 pm

Yeah, I think it will always be situational (much like taking the opening kick off, or deferring). Sometimes it will make more sense to play conservative, others more aggressive.

Tyrone
Reply to  Leaf
02/21/2024 8:49 pm

Even more situational in OT, Like you mentions if the defense is gassed, or you already know that you D has been playing really poorly during the game, that gives you information to go off.

Why do that?
Make it, they are going for two. Which they probably were, anyway. Either way, to win you must stop them.
Miss it, you lose on an XP, which is still fairly automatic

I posted a tweet last night that gave the odd of winning kicking vs receiving the kickoff.
Kicking: 49.3%
Receiving 50.4%
Not 100 because of the possibility of overtime, when the odds jumped for the receiving team, which technically the 9ers would have been.
The difference was mindset. The 9ers expected that we would match them. They would hold us to a FG if they got one, a TD and we would kick the XP.
We were never going to do that. There was not going to be a 3rd possession, no matter how it turned out. The only way it happens is if the 9ers go for 2 after making a TD, and that would be a Dan Campbell-type move. Could lose with an XP? That’d be crazy

had Niners scored TD, KC would have had to score TD as well

now, KC down by 1 PT … Andy Reid goes for 2 Pt Conversion

They said they were going for 2 if SF scored 7 on the first possession.

I wonder what Andy would have done if SF kicked off. Would he have gone for 2 on the opening possession?

See above. I don’t think so. If you take the 7, you might lose, but you have one more chance to win. If you don’t get that 2, you can lose on an XP. Even if you get the two, they can still tie you and make you go back out there

When it came to NFL teams, the Broncos ranked No. 13, ahead of several of its most noteworthy rivals. This included the Kansas City Chiefs, which came in at No. 33, and the Los Angeles Chargers, which came in at No. 31.

That’s probably because the US loves their sports to extreme capitalist obsessions. Jerseys, memorabilia, other gear, you name it. And this is on top of our owners squeezing every single cent out of hard working people that make the tiniest of fractions of what they do
