Wednesday Night Open Thread : Should a city with the culinary chops of KC really get this excited about a fast food burger joint?

Whataburger. If not for Mahomes, would we care? Take the poll!

Having never had a Whataburger, can’t say but I’ve never had a Fast Food burger that lived up to the hype.
LDT is back to medicine, at least for now …

wonder how much of his NFL contract he’s forfeited?
forget how things got redone in ’20 leaguewide
He’ll have to choose once and for all at some point, maybe this is it, although a residency is a finite term…
Every NFL player has to eventually make that call, and many start pursuing their post-football careers in their free time while still in the league, though.
Chief’s should control his rights until he accrues enough years, or officially retires
Echoing earlier sentiments: happy birthday rip!
Hey our Canadian Friend, I know you are cook, do you hunt?
not a set up, just curious
No, don’t hunt, did a little fishing as a kid. I do have a Marlin .22 rifle, it’s protection from rabid wildlife out here in rural farmland.
Cool, thanks. Always kinda assumed rural kids hunted something.
Ya, raised in the city I was but I gravitated to the open country.
My late in-laws built their last home at the end of a road close to Lake Oologah, well outside the tiny town where he taught and coached girls’ BB. What that meant was that houses started going in back up the road, the cottonmouths were pushed his way. A shotgun’s preferred for them, of course, the right tool for the task, and he was a bird hunter, but one still got him in the foot, one day.
They also held bro-in-law+’s wedding rehearsal party there, and wouldn’t you know it, a cottonmouth was spotted on the property. This led to bro and two other guys going out with a shotgun – clean headshot – and a flashlight. When they returned, I believe it was Mrs BRAG who remarked to her future SIL that three was a typical number for such events. One to hold the flashlight, one to use the gun, and one to hold the shooter’s beer. The look on the city-type bridesmaids’ faces when they displayed their trophy was priceless.
HA
To her credit, future SIL laughed at the manpower rundown, and wasn’t bothered by the snake. Really, if they divorced, I’d consider reaching out to her, it’s him who’s toxic to me. I shot pistol with father and son, once each. I was ready to do it again, they were not.
Shot some trap later on with bro, and took a turn on his ARs, now and then, but I think both of them expected to easily outshoot this damnyankee, and they didn’t like the results. Also, he bought a bump stock, and I got to try it out, so I know that the whole campaign against them is a joke. Their process takes practice, and even then you lose any semblance of control. Theater, not substance.
to counterpoint, an ineffective/unsafe means of simulating automatic fire should not be on the market…can we start there?
FWIW (and from farther north than Larch), I’m not much of a hunter. Oh, I trapped gophers and shot rabbits with dad’s 10/22, but on the whole, I’d rather fish.
Now when it comes to shooting targets, game on! The first real date I took the future Mrs BRAG to was to a range that rented pistols, and tried her out on several. She really liked a Taurus in 9mm, as I recall, because she found she preferred chunkier grips. They gave her better control, and thus better accuracy. To this day, she calls it the most romantic date she’s ever been on.
That’s cool, wish her well for me, please.
Done in advance, actually. Just a few minutes ago, I told her the one about your “friend”, who was living the good life, lol.
this pleases me
I expected as much. What will please you more is that I delivered it deadpan, so she laughed hard enough to make some parts of her body hurt, and still had to fight hard to suppress it. Totally worth it, to her. She also liked that I shared my story about our first date, and can confirm, still #1.
😃
Looking at getting some new earbuds. Sony WF-1000XM4, specifically. Anyone use them? I have a set of UE Fits that are pretty nice, don’t ever fall out, but lack a good bass sound. Any real world experiences?

FWIW, I don’t want the Airpods because I have nothing Apple and no desire to wade into the ecosystem.
Didn’t think I was going to enjoy that but that was awesome…. With no shoes on there feet…
Hell ya, I’m ready to throw a cap in someone’s ass after that . Truth 😁

Serious question, why would anyone choose an AR for vamit control?
other than that they can. Get up to feral pigs…maybe (use a heavier caliber, maybe)
No one taking any of mine
Not asking to….No really, i’m curious, if a 22LR will do, why use a 223R?
When a 22 rifle will do, that’s what people tend to use. Why? Cost of ammunition. Conversely, if it won’t do, then you need something more powerful.
hence “will do”. 223R would explode a gopher, I assume, never tried.
that reminds me…back ina minute
they aren’t taking mine either — hell, you never know when you might have to kill a conservative right winger

take your best shot!
Hoosier, that’s one list I didn’t want you to make
Hoosier ? I still have open Friday and Saturday if you would like to do the news for old time sake..
hey, hey, hey, you already pawned off 1/2 the week….
😁
Thank god , love you guys ,but I was out on doing the news every day. So glad you guys helped out …
That’s why Sun_mon are best, no one expects anything this time of year 👍
though I do try to not duplicate from the previous day, you bastards use it all up in the insane quest for the glory that is the Morning Huddle….
Remember my unbroken streak here?
you won’t let us forget 😃😃😃
luv ya
I’m over 1k consecutive days now, so I’d say I’ve got reason to quietly brag a bit. You’ve tasted the grind, as has our friend Rip. Tell me that I’m not doing something that wears most people down far quicker, if you like.
Also, back atcha.
I am encouraged by the OT traffic lately, more folks dropping in, maybe some that left for whatever reason, some lurkers chimed in a while back then went back, which is cool with me. ..there’s life in the old gal yet (much life for the Mrs.).
silly, libs don’t own firearms.
Because it’s fun .. I’ve got one . They are an absolute blast … and they look cool ..
AR-15-type platforms can accept higher caliber uppers, night vision scopes, laser targeting, and so on. If you’re trying to take out as many feral swine as possible in a herd, semiautomatic fire’s desirable, as is a full-sized magazine.
For other invasive species, different calibers and platforms can be used, but the circumstances vary wildly. There’s at least 2 YT channels that hunt iguanas in FL, and in urban settings, they use air rifles, which won’t work with hogs.
i did not specify 223 cal or higher
You mentioned pigs, and with them, I wouldn’t be surprised if such hunters want something with more punch than a .223.
that’s what I said
wonder if they have a bounty program like down here for pythons?
(should be a state funded full time program, ah well)
are they edible?
Make good sausage…
ah, like elk
Elk’s likely safer, though. No telling if a wild hug’s carrying anything, so you have to cook it properly.
imagine so
Like a pig ..😂
would you throw a feral pigbut on the smoker?
Yes…
have you…?
Yes.. every year..
Really good in homemade tamales, but I have a special source for those..yummy
cheaper than fishing probably
It just depends some of those hog hunts get more expensive than a fishing trip..
I’m just glad I get the opportunity to go out and still do it….
I was thinking per pound
Haha… oh by the pound probably the cheapest you get
If vipers are edible, then so are constrictors.
never hear about that, they are long lived, prob tough
223 is more than plenty. And it’s what everyone shoots. At least down here.
how big of a hog?
and are they edible?
As big as hog gets ..they can go over 300 lbs.. and yes it’s just a pig , and you have to be careful how you clean it..
But other than that bacons, bacon.
thx
Oh, and an adjustable stock helps fit the rifle better to the shooter, and a bipod will likewise improve accuracy. An uncomfortable rifle’s inherently less accurate.
my issue is capacity and caliber allowed to anyone
Then I’ll ask this one: How can you know which rifle is suitable for a given situation? Situations vary wildly, after all, and you can’t know them all, even if you’re a general who’s served in the military as a career.
Expert hunters have a better idea of what’s called for, but they’ll still tend to have a favored rifle or two, and if they’re experts, they know where their expertise ends. People who hate guns, however, can’t know, because they’re not experts.
anything autoloading high pressure rifle rounds with a 30 rd magazine would require a bizarre hunting scenario.
let’s start there, slippery slope or not
We could start there, but where do you stop? Sounds like what my Jr high history teacher called Soviet-style negotiation.
As for capacity laws, they are not new, true, but I don’t think there’s a federal law limiting the capacity of shotgun shells to 3, though Biden says you only need two. Of course, a shotgun will kill you just as dead as the 9mm rounds he’s demonized, and they have an inherently higher risk for collateral damage.
i specified state, IDAF what POTUS says, that’s the game he’s playing (not sure how well it plays with the moderate base)
Hell, most state’s regulating how many rounds you can carry in a shotgun (3), capacity laws are not new.
capacity and caliber has been around for years. it wasn’t until the later generation that the crazies have been coming out of the woodwork and using them to kill people. so perhaps we should examine what is creating all these lunatics while we are replacing police with counselors. The psychologists should be able to figure it out – that’s their expertise. Heck, in Europe they just had someone mow down a bunch of people with a car. maybe we have to limit the fuel tank capacity and HP because we blame the means rather than the real culprit? Its the same mentality. . Right now they can catch someone spouting conservative rhetoric and ban them from the social sites in a heartbeat, but they can’t catch these crazy people threatening schools on social media? give me a break. So we limit the gun magazine capacity… so its okay to have 6 innocents killed rather than 12? Its all wrong, but its actually people that are doing it, regardless of what they choose as their weapon.
Pretty much this, and though I could quibble about conservatives getting banned because they’re conservative, I won’t. Georgetown’s treatment of Ilya Shapiro and absolute inaction toward some rhetoric from their Leftist profs shows that there’s a very real bias out there, just not necessarily where it seems to be.
Which is part and parcel with the thrust of your comment, that the problems are not where the attention’s being focused, but on side issues, instead.
The core issued has been ignored/unfunded for decades, the disease is manifest, maybe we can treat a symptom.
To hoosier’s point, can a peron in a car, with a knife/shovel/pickax/cludgle kill people, fuck yeah and they will.
The ability for someone to acquire the means within one day (in places it may be a couple weeks), and with little to no training, successfully kill multiple people in one incident, talk about capacity 🙂
wordplay
capacity and caliber have only been around since Heller and Miller, prior to that the aks/ars were not widely available to the civilian market. Tommy guns could be purchased via Sears catalog, until they were outlawed (essentially).
Laws have, can and should respond
In 1880 (I’m pretty sure of the date but the copy of the ad is nowhere I can find) you could buy a freaking Gatling gun from Sears. So yeah – laws have changed.
For hogs I prefer a 308 or 6.8 because they’re a lot further away on the ranches where I’ve hunted them and a 223 just doesn’t retain enough energy over about 150 yds unless you’re *very* accurate.
What I find amusing is the gun range ninjas with their AR “pistols” and 30 round mags. They mag dump all 30 rounds and act like they are big swinging dicks because they got half a dozen hits on a target a whole 25 feet away. Actually I say amusing – really they are scary because of their lack of competence.
*Thompson submachine gun*
and thanks, this is exactly the informed info I wanted.
While you’re here, would you use a 223R AR for groundhog, with a 22LR available? (outside of the fun of it)
Depends on the range. Up to 50 yds I’d use a 22LR. Between 50 and 100 it’s a toss up, over 100 I’d use a 223. Over 150 (and yes I have done this) I’d use my 22-250 – simply because it’s a crap load more accurate than a standard or even medium accurized AR15. I have friends who shoot high power at Camp Perry and they have AR15s that are accurate out past 600 yards – and cost as much as a decent second hand car.
makes sense from the little I know, appreciate it.
Mostly depends on what season it is ?
a 22mag bushmaster would ideal for fiddler crab season
this gets pretty cool about the 7:50 mark
That’s nuts..
damn

Chiefs LT Orlando Brown confident deal will get done before July 15 deadline
With the deadline steadily approaching, Brown told Mike Garafolo and Shaun O’Hara on NFL Total Access that he is confident a long-term deal will get done.
“Very confident. Very confident,” Brown said Tuesday. “Especially simply based off the things that have come into effect within our division, the type of defensive ends that have been brought in, the type of players and all of that type of stuff. It’s not the year to go into the season with a backup left tackle. So, I’m very confident that the Kansas City Chiefs will get that done.”
ChiefsWire.com —
If I was him I wouldn’t push it, I can see chiefs saying no thanks we will figure this shit out without you. And also at this time don’t think he’s worth what he’s asking. Let alone a long term deal.
it’s all about the guaranteed $$$, length is mostly irrelevant,
Eh, while I don’t disagree the chiefs will figure something out without him (hell, they made it to the SB with 5 backups), I don’t think he’s over paying his hand. The threat of not passing is about the only card he has to play and these kind of comments are nothing new during contract negotiations.
that looks like a MG42
I’ll save this thread…
Kansas City Chiefs
@Chiefs
What’s that?? Only 95 days until the regular season
After the AD deal, I don’t see how he’s cheap enough to keep past this year
