Cold, dark and rainy for me right now. Tempting to complain, but I know that it’s been too dry and much warmer than used to be normal for this time of year – compared to my memories from growing up on the *south* end of the state. By that standard, frost’s overdue by 2-3 weeks. As for the darkness, sunset’s now at about 4:50PM, which means that it can be quite dark while kids do what kids do down in, say, Oklahoma during the same hours.
Can’t help wondering how many helicopter parenting advocates would be horrified by kids being allowed out in the dark without adult supervision. Which doesn’t mean much, since they’re already horrified by the idea of kids doing *anything* without close adult supervision. Good way to ensure that kids aren’t self-confident and self-reliant.
