Scary. I know I’m nervous when I’m banking on the fact we had so little rain that so little new vegetation grew in spring. Fire swept past us a few miles apart a couple years back. 😬

Big college football rumblings right now: OU and Texas wanting into the SEC.

I don’t get why they would want to leave the Big 12 they dominate to join a conference they would struggle to even finish in the top 5.

Texas sucks and has sucked for quite a few years now…. Vince Young was the last time we had a decent team.
We will see how the new coach does, I’m sure will get our normal worthless Doritos bowl, But Hook Em….

Twice the revenue in the SEC and better TV contracts. Also greater conference allure in recruiting, not to mention this could be the first move to total abolishment of the NCAA; create a super conference who does their own thing.

First move already happened. The players being able to sell shit basically just legalized the bagman, and in effect, created a new pro league. There will be one super-conference with the top 25 programs in the country in which the players will be paid quite well, and then the rest of the schools. SEC and Big10 will pretty much eat up the lions share of that, get in one of those 2 now while you can, or be left out

While it’s long been apparent that the NCAA is both corrupt and inept, and deserves its ignominious fate, it’s not clear to me that the replacement(s) of it are going to be significantly better. Dealing with that much money while having a vested interest in a share of it tends to do that to large organizations.

Feeling a bit ill right now, but it’s not a virus or something I ate. Rather, I was out in the parking lot earlier, and when some guy came tear-assing down our street from Main (we’re one block south), the neighbor over kitty-corner jumped off his front porch and started yelling at him to slow the fuck down. The driver didn’t take too kindly to being yelled at for endangering the guy’s kids (not to mention their neighbors’ kids), so he stopped to get out and yell back. All this time I’d been casually walking in that direction, and ended up right on the edge of the lot. For a moment, it seemed like it was about winding down, but then the drivers starts popping his mouth again.

That’s when I decided to get in involved, so I called over in a loud, clear voice that the neighbor wasn’t alone, and he did need to slow down. Things wound down after that, went and talked with the neighbors a bit, then came home. That’s a long way to get to saying that now I’m going through the adrenalin reaction, because while all I did was say two sentences loudly (without yelling them, mind), but they weren’t empty words. I was already considering tactics in case of trouble when I was walking up.

Now I get to enjoy the aftermath of all that. Anyone see why I dislike getting angry?

That sucks , I bet you’re neighbor appreciate it, luckily neither one of them were carrying weapons.. that seems to be the new thing.

Yeah, but not overly so. The guy’s a roofer, so he’s in shape and well-used to pain. I just gave the asshole someone else to worry about, perhaps helping to prevent any violence.

Because while I don’t own a carry gun and seldom carry one of my folding knives, I’m still never unarmed.

That’s good of you. I had a similar thing maybe two years ago. I pulled up to my house to see some jerk with a giant, oversized pickup yelling at my elderly, 90lb female neighbor. I jumped out and got in between them. She had cut him off at some point and he followed her home, obviously trying to scare her. Her 83 year old husband came out and was getting involved. I basically tried to get my neighbors to go back in their house so I could deal with this irate sack of shit myself. We exchanged a lot of insults before he finally left. So I know how that feels, getting all worked up and ready to fight. My neighbors thanked me every time they saw me for a couple months after that. What kind of dick chases a 90lb old lady to her house because he got cut off? A true nutter, that’s who. Nice work, BRaG.

Rather literally true, in my case. Consider how the fact that I haven’t stopped working for AG might translate into what could happen if things get violent. I ain’t got much quit in me, never have.

But Hoosier’s right, adrenalin messes with you something awful. Me, I have decades of practice at functioning through it anyway, but to add to what he said, along with the strength boost, it mutes pain. That’s why when a problem’s looming, I work out a couple courses of action and some contingency options, because if it goes south, there won’t be the time to think, and adrenalin would only make it harder, anyway.

I totally understand the adrenaline rush.
I went to a concert Sunday and some drunk asshole started dancing with his girl to the music between the last two bands. Well he got a little excited and was basically buttfucking her in the middle of the crowd. And when he would thrust they started running into my wife. After about the fifth bump into her my wife turned around and said “I’m standing here!”.

He took offense to her saying that and asked her if she had ever been to a concert before, because at concerts people bump into people. My wife responded that usually people apologize if they do, and most people don’t dirty dance to the filler music between the sets and then turned back around.

That guy stood still for about 30 seconds then proceeded to intentionally bump into my wife and teenage daughter while dancing, so my wife told him to back the fuck off. He got back in her face and dared to put his hands on her shoulders. That is when I stepped in and told him to create some space between my wife and himself. Then Mr. Tough guy put his hands into my chest to shove me backwards a step. So I returned the favor but I sent that son of a bitch about twelve feet backwards into the crowd. I got my fist cocked and was ready to split his skull when his gal grabbed him and told him to stand down. Security showed up a few minutes later and everyone pointed at that guy as the troublemaker so security told him any more problems and he would be thrown out. He stayed for 2 songs of the last band then left.

It took about twenty minutes for my adrenaline to settle down.

I try to teach my students to avoid adrenaline, because while it makes you super strong, it really slows you down and also drains a lot of energy out of you. Of course, that’s easy to say, but harder to do….

Easily among the top ten most athletic throws ever made. Running for his life and still delivering an accurate pass… His talent is superhuman.

Of course, those performances are modified by the lines they played behind, so Clyde’s 3.3 needs a couple pinches of salt. I can’t speak for the others, as I have no idea how lines and schemes affected them, but I imagine they’ll all need salt.
