Music OFMBMY?:
I see a lot of these videos, watched maybe two, and I just don’t get it. Why? Who cares? I even think those stupid “unboxing” videos were better than these. At least I knew what to expect if I bought something.
I don’t like reaction videos either.
You might not, but many do. For me, it’s akin to watching an old favorite movie with a young friend who’s barely even heard of it, and in part enjoying it afresh because it’s so new and mind-blowing to them. From the comments, many feel similarly, or are simply happy to watch the younger generations discover the music they’ve always loved.
In A&A’s case, however, their takes are also a matter of them being musicians and music nerds, too. They love things like production details and song arrangements, not to mention lyrics and instrumental execution. In this particular case, going in they thought the title to seem kinda cheesy – but by the end they were talking about how wrong their guess was. To each, their own.
I’m glad there are 2 games instead of 3 tomorrow . Going a little old school
The more spread out games are the more you can watch live.
Random stat of the day.
The only one to play for the only team he didn’t beat?
There are a handful who have beaten every team they’ve played but have only faced 31 because they were only ever on one team, Collins is unique because the only team he didn’t beat he faced multiple times and lost every time, and Smith would be the same.
If Collins and Smith are the only 2 to have played all 32 teams, and beaten 31, AND Collins never played for Miami (which he didn’t) then Nova is correct that Smith would be the only one to:
Ah I see, yeah that’d be true. Which is weird if you think about it, since you’d expect that to be the “normal” way of doing it.
Yeah, I’d think that would be really unusual, which apparently it is
I’ve seen that tweet a half dozen times today and each time my heart stops for a second.
I don’t know how much time I’ll feel like spending here tonight, but I want to share some thoughts about earlier discussions about a “no politics” rule. You see, I get where that sentiment is going, and generally agree, but there’s a problem with that, you see. As it happens, there’s a ruling out of the 5th District Court that I’d like to talk about, no political parties or politicians involved, but I’m now leery of doing so, as some could use that as an excuse to call it a “political attack” and thus a valid basis for attacking me personally.
And therein lies the problem, by putting up a “ban on all politics” what we are doing is providing a way for some to silence others, simply by calling something like this “political”, when in point of fact, it is not. There are serious issues involved here, but since the police are accused of wrongdoing over the death of an innocent man, that can be called political “plausibly” enough to be used to silence me on what actually isn’t a political issue. If anything, it’s a public safety issue, since an innocent man died violently without ever even being suspected of a crime.
I’d agree that that would be considered a political discussion/topic. So maybe that’s one that you bring up here, or maybe that’s something you’d discuss on another forum that’s more political in nature.
Because at the end of the day, political discussion is either tolerated with dissent or not tolerated at all. It can not be tolerated without dissent. It will not ever be political discussion but only opinions agreeable to the powers that be. I won’t agree to that.
You are free to disagree with me, naturally, and in fact I fully agree with you on your second point, which makes sense, since it’s related to what I said. That said, my problem isn’t over dissent, it’s about how that has been used as an excuse to attack others. I’ve had many useful, positive political disagreements on non-partisan topics here, even when agreement couldn’t be achieved. Still, both parties got listened to, and at the very least mutual understanding was improved.
My problem is with “dissent” is when it’s expressed as using words like hammers to smash at anyone who disagrees with whatever they don’t like. If someone wants to hash over a view I presented, such as the Chicago PD’s notorious “black” site, or my opinion that Chicago PD the TV show is strictly fantasy, I’m more than willing, in fact. What I’m not willing to tolerate is someone who “dissents” by calling me a cop-hating Leftard scumbag.
So what are my options here, if I wanted to talk about the 5th CC decision, especially since I have skin in the game over it? Treat such instances as valid disagreement? Keep my topics to myself? As for other forums, as far as I know, there are no other suitable forums, because the political ones are rabidly partisan and willing to go far, far lower than what I have discussing. Must I take it in such cases? What if someone hopes something bad befalls my family, as part of their speech?
Quite frankly, your options are to speak about it here and have viable conversations with those who want to have meaningful conversations with you about it while ignoring those who want to take it to the lowest common denominator. Or fight about it. I think ignoring would be the best way to proceed, honestly. Being able to completely disregard and ignore the things that really set you off would be a load off for you, I really do think. At the end of the day, this is all just talk, nothing here should make us truly mad or upset.
And I’m off to bed, 5 AM was an early rise this morning. If you wanna chat more about this, you know how to get ahold of me privately. Take care, my man.
Noted, and really, our views aren’t all that far apart in general, I think. Perhaps hunkering down over a couple beers sometime might help us sort some of that out. Until that time, sleep well, sir. Also, I think we did a nice job of discussing some thorny issues, and while we didn’t always agree, neither of us were disagreeable about it. That’s the kind of discussion/debate/argument I really like.
Mudslinging? Not so much.
And again, I agree with your last point wholeheartedly, keeping disagreements on topic and compartmentalized was something I worked long and hard to promote, since tempers will flare, as I know. The trick is to allow time for tempers to cool and stick to the topic at hand.
But your suggestion that I ignore things isn’t very helpful. For one thing, I have tried, repeatedly, and managed to do so for long stretches, but for many, all that matters are the times I slipped. I’m not perfect, but with PTSD’s anger control issues, it’s one hell of a lot harder for me to do than most people. The credit I get for working that hard to prevent so much? Zip, I’m considered a bad actor by some because I couldn’t be perfect. No-win game.
As for telling me to ignore those doing all they can to pull one of my triggers, not only is that easier said than done, there’s a history there that makes that an extreme sore point with me. I’ll tell you about it in DM, if you like, but if I did it in the open it could be twisted or used against me in other ways. Since I have had people pull that on me before, I can’t risk it right now.
I suggested the political ban. I don’t think it will come fruition. Tony doesn’t seem open to it and from the feedback I have received, most on here don’t support it. I personally believe it is the best way to ensure equality of thought while really tempering the heat down on these threads. It is what it is, but I am overruled in the matter. So i don’t think anyone has anything to worry about from the mods if they bring up politics.
It’s pretty hard to get banned here. I think we’ve only banned 2 people, one recently who basically seemed to only be here to antagonize, and the other who we gave a dozen warnings to.
?
a dishonest arguement and you know it.
What he’s talking about shouldn’t be political. Justice shouldn’t be political. Court rulings shouldn’t be political. And yet, they always end up there. In the present climate, every last current event is seen through a political lens. It’s like the Passive/Aggressive FedEx commercial with the punchline “What’s that supposed to mean?”. Everything means more than it should. It’s just a cigar.

I detest the partisan fighting that’s gone on here this year, not least because there have been more than a couple who have tried to portray me as a political partisan, in spite of my explanations, at first, and then even more in spite of my insistence they were misrepresenting me. It’s a dishonest way of trying to accomplish a purpose when you misinterpret someone else’s words so that you can misrepresent what you are saying as the basis for the next attack. I name no names here, but if certain names do come to mind, all I can say is that if anyone claims the shoe fits, wearing it is on their own head, not mine. My particular point is that such people would have few qualms about using such a system to silence others, just because they didn’t like an opinion on current events away from the political arena.
Anybody have any ideas as to the reason behind the sideline blowup Sunday night?
Not a reliable source, IMO
I’ve seen multiple “sources” noting lack of effort on Sunday night. Not sure it has to be “reliable” to see some of that stuff. It’s not that he’s saying someone has told him this bit of info.
True enough. It’s not like the defense played well. I don’t think he’s making an “I’m an insider” statement here. That’s all I meant.
I gotcha.
The defense was, again, piss poor. This is an issue because they’ve regressed well beyond the start of last season already.
Outside of games against the Raiders the defense has been really good.
Yeah. The Raiders just match up well with the Chiefs. Nothing wrong with that.
There is something wrong with zero wins by the DL in 8 quarters.
Against the Raiders? Or in the last 8 quarters?
The Raiders.
I’d like it to get figured out too, but the Chiefs have held their opponents to 20 and under in 7 games this season. Just trying to put this into perspective.
Theres been plenty of wins, just no sacks. Jones had about 8 pressures last game. He was the only one doing anything. Clark is a waste
Basically. But they have to figure that out.
The Steelers should be favored in every game the rest of the year, but I don’t think they go 3-0 against Baltimore, Indianapolis, and Buffalo. If they do then they deserve the top seed (even if they did get to play the NFC East).
Looks like Thanksgiving college football is getting a shot to the nuts too.
I went back to look at my preseason bets, and unless the Ravens go undefeated the rest of the way (which they actually could if they get past Pittsburgh) or the Bills absolutely collapse I’ll be +6.5 units on those picks pending the Super Bowl (+5.47 if the Chiefs don’t win it, +11.9 if they do).
What do you think about tomorrow’s game between the girls and the football team? Would love to see Alex get a W there.
Yes rooting for Alex…. and without the Baltimore game thanksgiving football is going to suck..
I don’t know, I could see it going either way, but I’ll definitely be pulling for Alex.
And now back to your regularly scheduled evening classic rock…
Did you say classic rock?
Great cover.
Such a great song. I never get tired of hearing covers of it.
Weird that we used the same turn of phrase independently about different songs.
Such a great song. One of the best.
Building on a discussion that Tyrone started in last night’s open thread… who is an artist that you listen to that marks a significant departure from your usual?
For me it’s Faia Younan. I traditionally don’t listen to Arabic music since it usually auto-tuned nonsense, but Faia uses more traditional, classical instrumentation closer in line with Middle Eastern folk music. She also has a great voice.
Fallout Boy. I don’t listen to much pop-punk or post-2000’s era music, but their songs are so catchy.
