If you watch the NFL Draft on Thursday, you’ll likely be witnessing history and that’s because, for the first time ever, we could see eight teams go through the first round without making a pick.
As things currently stand, there are eight teams that currently do not have a first-round pick this year and if that holds, it would break the record of seven, which has only happened four times ever (1973, 2000, 2019, 2020).
Assuming they don’t trade into the first-round, the eight teams sitting out the opening round on Thursday night will be: The BearsBrownsBroncosColtsDolphinsRaidersRams, and 49ers

I (almost) feel SO sorry for those teams …

Also a sign of the changing league. If no RBs or TEs are selected in the 1st round, it will be the first time ever both positions were passed over in the opening round.

There is only 1 RB that might make the 1st round.

Breece Hall is being linked to the Bills recently.

Minnesota’s Boye Mafe should be strongly considered at this pick. Yet, I prefer GM Brett Veach to roll the dice and take the risk on Michigan’s David Ojabo. As noted by Arrowhead Pride, “a perennial contender like Kansas City will very rarely be in position to take an edge rusher of Ojabo’s talent in any draft.”

I love Ojabo’s story. Born in Nigeria, and raised in Scottland, he moved to the US as a teen to play basketball. After he failed to crack the starting lineup on the court, he asked his coach, “You mind if I try football next season?” His persistence and patience appeared to have paid off. Ojabo exploded onto the scene in 2021, registering 11 sacks, 24 tackles, and he set a school record (at a respected program that regularly produces NFL-level prospects) with five forced fumbles. Some analysts rated the Wolverine prospect as high as top-5. … Yet even this Cinderella story has its drama. In preparation for the draft, Ojabo suffered a torn Achilles at Michigan’s Pro Day.

With the ammunition of 6 picks in the top 103, the Chiefs accept the risk and sit him behind Frank Clark while his injured Achilles recovers (four to twelve months).

Some readers may be disappointed that I’ve, yet again, chosen to turn the direction of cornerback over the needs at WR in RD1. … A reminder, the AFC West is now loaded with quality QBs (plus, let’s not forget the QB rivals faced in the AFC playoffs: Allen and Burrows). A high-quality corner is a must-add for the Chiefs.

Getting there?

I would love that, but if we draft Ojabo we have to take another DE in the 1st 3 rounds.

Or trade for Quinn in Chicago.

Yep. Let him rehab the full year. Don’t try to rush him back. I think he will bounce back fully, but a setback could ruin his career before it starts.

yeah, but team really needs a young someone at that position THIS year … yah, I’d go Mafe or someone else, even if 2nd Rd (though another player could always fall to us)

29. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: CB KYLER GORDON, WASHINGTONThe Chiefs have 12 picks in this draft — tied for the most in the NFL. They don’t need 12 rookies on their roster, so an aggressive move up for a top receiver would make sense. Gordon has gained some traction, and there are a few who like him as much as his Washington teammate, McDuffie.
30. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: WR JAHAN DOTSON, PENN STATEIf the Chiefs don’t move up from pick Nos. 29 or 30, it wouldn’t be a major shock if they pass on receivers both times and look for one later in the draft.
Dotson could be the exception. He is creative in how he gains separation, and his catch radius is quite ridiculous considering his size (5-foot-10 5/8, 178 pounds). Andy Reid would have a lot of fun adding him into this offense as they enter the post-Tyreek Hill era.

Yeah no

Dotson is in my top 5 WRs this year. He is just a great all around receiver. I would prefer not taking him in the first, but I wouldn’t cry about it.

Ebiketie is really good, I just like Mafe’s size a bit more.

This is the draft I want to see. I think it is actually grounded in reality as well.

29 DE Boye Mafe
30 DE David Ojabo

Gives us an edge for this year and our starting edges for the next 3. People are complaining about Mafe already being 24 and he will be too old for a 2nd contract but if we can get a starting DE for 5 years we can address that when the time comes.

50 DT Logan Hall

I like Hall a lot because he reminds me of Chris Jones coming out. He was an oversized end in college, but could be an inside force as a pass rushing DT.

62 WR John Metchie

He was more heralded than Jameson Williams before he hurt his knee.

94 CB Marcus Jones
Sticky man nickel corner. Undersized but fast. Great in the slot and a good returner.

103 S Nick Cross

Uber athletic S with a knack for making big plays.

121 CB Josua Williams
Great size and length with tremendous athleticism. Very coachable. Could turn into a Charvarius Ward CB.

135 OT Ryan Van DeMark
Long arms and giant hands. Moves well and the Chiefs brought him into the facility for a visit.

7th round we should take a LB, TE, maybe another S and a WR that can also return kicks.

That is the highest I have seen Logan Hall ranked, but it makes me feel good about me identifying him as a solid player. Most places I have seen have him in the 60-80 range.

I like Dax Hill. Perfect Tyrann replacement.

While a new WR would be nice, we have JuJu, MVS, and Hardman ahead of any WR we would draft this year.

We should only take a WR if the value is good in the top 50.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm … Tony said the guy was on the roster at least part of 2021, but the name doesn’t register whatsoever (and I concur with your assessment: Mahomes is gonna have to toe the line and produce for a change, or he COULD be gone … Shane Buechele almost took his place last year, IIRC)
