still think #88 Tony G was “better” than Kelce … oh, if he’d had Mahomes as his QB, oh yeah

I think Tony was probably more athletic than Kelce, but never dominated a game (not that I can remember) the way TK can. Correct me, but if you can my guess it you’ll come up with a game here or there.
He never owned another team the way Tk owns the Chargers AND raiders.
Yes, TK had real QBs, but he did more with what he had, too

Tony wasn’t necessarily better than Travis, but he redefined the position in the NFL. Without Tony starting a run on TEs, Gronk and Kelce might not have been the same players. Gotta honor pioneers like that, guys who changed the whole game, but Kelce’s playing a different version of the game at a whole ‘nother level.

Just a matter of knowing that comparisons with the past quickly break down. I mean, Tarkenton paved the way for QBs like Mahomes, but in that era, Mahomes wouldn’t be allowed to even play QB. Different contexts, and as you might recall, I’ve studies history for most of my life. Context is crucial, if you are gonna play in that sandbox.

The Cardinals look pretty bad and like they have a lot of trouble there. Think Kingsbury and gm may both be out there. Lot of friction seems to be going on.

I agree with Nova (see MH) that the best team was likely …. well, I said ’69 team (ultimate offense AND defense for their era) although Nova mentioned the 71 team that lost to the Fins in 2-OT (even Dawson once said, years later, that he thought the 71 team was better [may have been better] than the 69 Super Bowl Championship team, in my pointy brain THE best Chiefs team ever)

have fun (and there were some truly gawdawful teams in the late 70s that I [sadly] recall seeing some of)

When Marty had Joe we had the guy, just wish it had been a few years sooner. Chiefs had Deberg, Kraig, Gerbac, Gannon who we should of stayed with, Bono and I forget who else but most were back up type guys.
If Marty had had an elite QB outside of Joe the Chiefs would have been on top a few times

From the very onset of the 2022 offseason, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made it clear that a changing of the guard was coming in the secondary. Not only was veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu allowed to walk via free agency, but he was replaced by 25-year-old Justin Reid. Charvarius Ward and Mike Hughes, who were both 25 at the time of their signings with new teams but were veterans in their own rights, departed as well. In their places, Veach opted for the rookie trio of Trent McDuffie, Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson in the draft. He added safety Bryan Cook there, too.
Of course, despite the changes, some veterans still remained in place. Juan Thornhill came into the season with expectations of holding a leadership role, L’Jarius Sneed was set to enter year three on the job at cornerback and the aforementioned Fenton was heading into the final year of his rookie contract. With Fenton out of the fold, however, proven talent with multiple years of experience is hard to find. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed rookies, on the other hand, are everywhere. That’s by design.

Mahomes’s numbers thru 10 games are damn near identical to his 2018 numbers thru 10 games. This year is even more impressive since he has no Hill, Sammy, or Hunt. With a really good game against a team like the Texans, he could go for 50 TDs to go along with the 5500 yards he is going to throw for.

The Chiefs sped up his development by signing Sammy, giving him another target. The Chiefs also were smart enough to build a team before they took a franchise QB. I still stand by what I said a few years ago about how the Chiefs wouldn’t have traded Alex if they didn’t feel Mahomes was ready.

Whereas we got a fair return for Alex while helping him get that golden parachute. A pity his leg was part of that package, but returning to play (and win!) again? That hombre’s as tough as they come.

I’m glad he came to KC, he was absolutely part of what the team needed, and helped make our franchise respectable again. The alternatives would’ve been worse.

Exactly.
1. Blow up Kauffman
2. Build a new retractable roof stadium where Kauffman was.
3. Blow up Arrowhead (everyone cry a little)
4. On the far side of the parking lot build a 15,000 capacity adjustable amphitheater that has restaurants and bars as the perimeter walls. There is a great place in Irving, TX to copy.
https://www.irvingtexas.com/listing/toyota-music-factory/1362/
5. Figure out a way to get a metro link to the complex.
