Royals chairman John Sherman will also use this afternoon's press conference to touch on plans and hopes for a downtown stadium, I'm told by sources.
Big day for Kansas City.

There have been rumblings of the Royals moving to a downtown stadium for a long time. And in the circles I run in the idea is quite popular. Today those murmurs became more official as the Royals’ owner came out in favor of it.
Now there’s all sorts of interesting discussion to be had there, but this is a Chiefs blog, so let’s focus on that aspect.
If the Royals move downtown, that leaves just the Chiefs to exist in an even bigger sea of parking lots. That is not a situation that will last for long without controversy, as it would be a massive amount of space that could be used for other things like apartments, bars, hotels, etc. This is actually the current trend in stadium developments. Instead of just building a stadium, cities will build entire districts around the stadium as well (see the new Los Angeles stadium for a prime example).
Regardless, the Royals moving downtown will have a big impact on the Chiefs’ gameday experience.
