RE: Marty’s passing…
Does anyone know WHY he hated the Raiders so much? I mean, it was a good thing and who really needs a reason, but was there one catalyst moment? For me, it was Davidson spearing Dawson. I always wondered what fueled his well-placed hatred.

I remember him being asked that after he retired, and he said he didn’t like the fact that Al Davis acted and spoke as if he and the Raiders were more important than the NFL. I did a quick search and couldn’t find the video I was thinking of, but it’s addressed in this one.

I believe he also believed that the Raiders and Davis didn’t care to play the game the right way. Davis didn’t care if his teams played dirty or even filthy, it was “just win, baby” all the way. Marty believed in a higher standard.

And given the largely-hidden feud between Al and Marcus Allen, I bet getting him to KC and treating him right gave Marty no end of satisfaction, because every yard he gained, every 1st down he converted or pass he caught, every TD as well, everything was a shot at Davis.

I know all about grudges, and Marty could hold a grudge like nobody’s business. Probably part of why I liked him so much.

Ignore the hyped title, the stolen items had no significant value and the police encounter was friendly. Guy also did magnet fishing and not only gave them some good locations to check, mentioned that Steve Earle had written a song about a street close by. This is part one.

How Cosmi fits with the Chiefs:
Both the positional need and fit with the scheme here are perfect. The futures of Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz are murky, so adding youth at tackle would be ideal. Cosmi’s athletic ability fits well in the Chiefs’ zone run offense, and he has the ability to play at either tackle spot. Not only would Cosmi be solid in pass protection, but his run blocking would be a welcomed addition to an offensive line that struggled in that department for a lot of the 2020 regular season.
Final Thoughts:
Cosmi is one of the top offensive tackle prospects in this year’s class. His great blend of length, athleticism and awareness makes him a candidate to step in and improve just about any team’s situation up front. If he’s available at the end of the first round, which isn’t a foregone conclusion, he’d be a terrific pick for the Chiefs. Cosmi grades out as a clear first-round prospect, with probable top-25 value.

Mainly what I’ve been saying is that we don’t know nearly enough to compete with him, so don’t buy in too deep. You can maybe find a flaw or two in any one aspect of his player acquisition, but overall, he’s highly successful. That takes stepping back and looking over the whole operation, but if you do you can see how good the team he leads is.

I’ve seen some hatin’ on Saunders recently, but I still believe in him. Any joint can be tricky when injured, but elbows have special problems of their own, making them harder in recovery and rehab terms, at least, than some other injuries.

Saw a teammate get his left elbow dislocated, back in HS wrestling. An illegal, blatantly intentional body slam that he tried to prevent with one arm, or maybe just save his head, but the result was his radius and ulna sticking out behind his humerus while he held it at a 90deg angle. Sucker took forever to heal, even though he had it in a cast, at first. I’m not counting Saunders out just yet.

Except, perhaps, for Team Veach.

Speculate and second guess to your heart’s content, for all of me. Just don’t take it too seriously, that’s really all I’m saying. Hell, I speculate and forecast from time to time, myself. Thing is, I lead off by stating clearly that I’m just speculating, forecasting, or whatever. While that’s a sign for all to see, it’s also a reminder to myself to not get into defending whatever I said too deeply. Sometimes it even works, lol.

And maybe I am overreacting a bit, but I believe something’s already been said about being overly sensitive at times or about some things. Not so? 😉

When the middle school I was working at back in 2000 went with the idea that teachers would spend three years with students – After the first year, the group of teachers I worked with, we sat down and drafted students for our homeroom the following two years. I crushed the draft by picking quiet students who were smart but not high achieving enough to go to the Smart People Academy between year two and year three. When we got to the knuckleheads, I picked the ones that I could relate to. By the third year, the teachers who picked the top students (who had left) got all the new people which is rarely a good thing. The teachers who picked the talkative students with great personalities were complaining about how loud their homerooms were. I was in heaven with my well drafted crew.

I read The Jungle Books and Just So Stories in grade school, O best beloved, Kipling was long gone, but some of his expressions and many of his quotes still remain.

Also, fuck the House of (the Undead) Mouse for what they did to his story. The Chuck Jones rendition of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was a superior treatment in every way compared to what Walt wanted kids to learn.

If there’s anyone who gets being prickly because of bad days, you’re talking to him. At first, I thought it might be someone else, since the expression seemed innocuous, and I thought the generalized context had been established. So I scanned your interactions to see if it was someone else. It wasn’t, so the next step was an apology with explanation. Happy to oblige, as it were.

And I’m glad that’s settled, too. You donj’t need to have the suck in your day increased by my error, innocent or not.

My story for today is that the gas station next to the liquor store here is where i have been buying my cigars, and the last part of the walk there was into a wind and it was around -5F. I left my cigar on the ledge next to the door and got my ass inside quick. After the cigars I went to buy beer, and the clerk on duty’s a friend.

So we got to chatting and happened to get to discussing making small acts of kindness part of one’s life, a habit, more or less. As I was heading out, I realized I’d forgotten my smoke. Cont’d

So back to next door, and as I walked up, one of the clerks made eye contact with me, since she was just finishing her own smoke break, and as I picked it up I quipped “Cold froze my brain”, which got a good laugh out of her.

So naturally I had to stick my head in back next door and brag to my friend. “Four words, man! Made her laugh in four words!”. lol

I do try to keep that in mind, but it’s hard to provide any evidence of the times I held my piece or bit my tongue, and moved on. Obvious insults aside, if I say something that flicks you on a sore spot, ask me about it. For all I know about words, language, and communication, I’m still not very good at it, and my past is littered with “what did I say wrong?” moments like today’s. Mrs BRAG was often the gracious diplomat, once we got together and she started seeing it happen.

And don’t get me started about left-handed compliments and “seeing” things in a way I can explain, but not in a way that avoids pissing off all and sundry. I can’t dodge the ball, unfortunately, but I can still sit here and throw wrenches, right? 😉 I don’t want to unintentionally offend anyone, I prefer giving offense in a clear and structured manner. All I ask for is a little help, now and then. It’s hard to learn about things when you can’t see them, y’know?

With Salary Cap Challenges Incoming, This Will Be the Last ‘Run It Back’ Campaign for Several Key ChiefsWith numerous reports suggesting the NFL salary cap will fall in 2021, this is the last chance the Kansas City Chiefs will have to run it back with their current roster.

Quarterback, fullback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, tackle, guard, center, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, safety, cornerback, punter, placekicker – What should be our draft priority? Eliminate the obvious and we are down to the following…

Wide receiver, tackle, guard, center, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, and cornerback – I add corner cause you always need depth and we could lose both Breeland and Ward

Eliminate positions where we have at least average play in most games and we are left with

Tackle, center, defensive end (pass rusher) and maybe corner (depends on who we might lose)

I will make the assumption we keep either Ward or Breeland so that is eliminated.

Three positions left – tackle, center, defensive end (pass rusher) We have Niang so we might wait until the second or third to pick one up there. Pass rushers go quick – we will nab one in the first round if a top notch player falls but that seems unlikely so we probably roll the dice on a KPASS type in the second or third. The center position should have 2 or 3 top candidates available – I am predicting that we go here unless a top tier prospect falls to us – most any position.

I like that EA

nice work

Vera-Tucker from USC is probably best at Center but has played LT

Alijah Vera-Tucker has aligned predominantly at left tackle this season for the Trojans offense. He has exceptional athleticism, as evidenced by his balance and body control in his pass set. He is an easy mover who demonstrates his athleticism in the passing game, particularly in his kick slide. He plays with very good competitiveness when he is bull rushed. In the run game, he comes off the ball hard to strike and he excels by getting his body in favorable positions. He’s played this year at left tackle, affording him much more value due to his ability to play that position in a pinch at the next level.
Ideal Role: Starting left guard in the NFL.

Andy does love flexibility in his linemen and prefers athletic linemen to the bulky ones. If they view him as a center or tackle, I would say that he could be at the top of the list. If they view him as a guard, we have in Allegretti and LDT and possibly Osemele some returners at that position.

If he lands with us, competition and development guy if he doesn’t win a starting spot. Reid’s offense is complex and is difficult for anyone to master fully in a single offseason, so he needn’t be a start-or-bust pick. A year of development/depth would be fine, but if he can win the C and force Reiter out, so much the better. Let Austin go somewhere that he has a better fit.

Cosmi started in 34 of 35 games at offensive tackle for the Longhorns. Experiencing 14 games at right tackle and 21 at left tackle, he’s has a wealth of experience playing on both sides of the offensive line. At 6-foot-7 and 310 pounds, he’s a lean offensive tackle that has plenty of room left on his frame to fill out. With plenty of capacity on his body structure, he has the build to pack on 10-15 more pounds of muscle. As a run blocker, he climbs to the second level with ease in order to latch and eliminate targets. On the other hand, his lack of play strength on the first level shows up at the point of attack as he isn’t a frequent people mover. Cosmi is a shield blocker that’s able to position his frame into winning alignments in order to create running lanes. In pass protection, his length gives him an advantage against defenders that are attempting to bend and turn the corner against him. Possessing above-average athleticism, he’s able to overcompensate and get away with the current technical flaws that he has. Cosmi will need seasoning as a pass protector as he needs to gain strength as well as refine his lower half. Frequently leaving his hips parallel to the sideline and the overreliance on out-athleting his opponent will be habits that need to be eliminated. Leverage is another flaw that must continue to be worked on as he has tendencies to play sky high and it results in defenders being able to get underneath of him. The former Longhorn blocker is an athletic offensive tackle that has many ingredients already present, but needs the proper coaching in order to blend them all together and possibly add more in order to reach his final state.
Ideal RoleCosmi is a right tackle that has the potential to eventually slide over to the left side if able to correct the flaws in his lower half and continue to gain muscle mass onto his frame.

I need to do some research on the true centers in the draft. When I do mock drafts, they are picked as high first to mid second round mostly – sometimes at the end of the second.

cause teams mostly are projecting them to Tackle

I just checked and Walters has like 6-7 Centers and Vera-Tucker is number 2

Georgia, Bama, Ohio State and you know the list are are on there

Well, whenever we see a good center – we need to pounce on him. Think of the centers that we have had over the years and then think of Reiter. Respect for him for moving up the depth chart but he is not a number one center.

As centers go, he might be the Maslowski type. That was OK for Mas, as long as he lasted, but he had more margin of error. I don’t hate Reiter, but i do see C as a spot in need of improvement.

Memories – I miss Maslowski. Reiter would be an ideal role player – good enough to start for an extended period on the interior. I do not dislike him but he is the weak link in our list of preferred starters.

Here is a fun fact about Skynard. For a band who has a song about calling Alabama home, they are actually from Florida.

Not Jacksonville, where the band was created. Jacksonville is the largest city in the country and the birthplace of yours truly.

Another fun fact, that song got Neil Young to reconsider his own lyrics, and called the band up to admit his error in describing the South’s folks. Too harsh, I believe is how he put it.
