Day-um, and it was clearly intentional to put Navy first, then add the USAF almost as an afterthought. Sick burn, not that it offends me.

I came across something similar in another sport and it got me wondering. What is the fewest number of teammates you could use to link the first ever Chiefs (Dallas Texans) game to the most recent Chiefs game?

I haven’t tried to do it yet, but I would guess it would be something like 10-12 players.

They have to have played in at least 1 game together to link up. Anyone want to have a go?

The game together presumably with KC? What about players who return as coaches, do they count as links in this? I mean I get not counting coaches who never played a snap for us, but we’ve had at least one former Chief return as a coach.

If that’s allowed, I expect it could be done in 7 links or fewer.

Players playing in the same game together only. So there’s heaps of players that could be the starting point for the most recent game, because many of them played with Colquitt. Colquitt would get you back to week 1 2005, then from there…probably Will Shields is next. He gets you back to week 1 1993.

Shields played with Nick Lowery.

Lowery played with Jack Rudnay.

Rudnay played with Johnny Robinson who played in the first Dallas Texans game in 1960.

So we can go:
Kelce (or half the team)
Colquitt
Shields
Lowery
Rudnay
Robinson

Only 6 players to get you from week 1 1960 to SB LV.

Hell, I was pessimistic, though I kinda called it. Nice work, Ty – want a job as a research analyst? 😉 I can guarantee that your entry-level pay is as high as mine currently is.

My favorite memory of Walter Mondale – when Reagan used his famous “age” line during their debate and Mondale roared with laughter.

I recall the time in HS, during that race, where students in my grade were divided into two teams, to hold a mock campaign. After the rest had discussed who wanted what, I played my card, because I wanted to arrange some “theatrics”, as I believe I put it. And so I did, recruiting the tallest kids I could get to agree to play “Secret Service agents” at each appearance of our stand-in Reagan, but of course the opposition caught on quick and launched a theatrics campaign of their own.

Long story, because the whole thing was shot through with good-natured shenanigans, but I like to think I turned that project from a dull, dusty assignment into something much more dynamic, and the audience reactions support the conclusion that dull and dusty was what to expect. Well, we covered all of the educational objectives that had been laid out, both teams put serious work into the serious parts of it, but I am still proud of my decision to make arrangements to hike up the realism.

There are a few reasons for trading up more often than trading down, and mostly a result of being a good team/good GM.

  • You trade up if you have more picks than gaps in your roster. You may have an excess of picks if you have handle trades/comp picks well, and it’s pretty obvious that you doing things right if you don’t have lots of gaps to fill on your roster.
  • You’re more likely to be trading up if you’re picking later. The team picking last in each round is more likely than the team picking first to be trading up.

Veach has done three drafts.

He didn’t have a first for the first two, so he traded up to get the guy he wanted because he was impatient.

He had his first last year, and he let the players fall to him.

I imagine the only way he trades up this year if there is a run on the OTs in the first. Like if 4 are picked before pick 20 he might get nervous and make the move.

I tend to agree. What’s interesting is that, of the 8-10 top OTs, he could have eliminated a couple from his list. So if, like you said, 4 OTs go in the top 20, it might not be nerves that compel him to trade up – it could be desperation that he only has two more OTs that he likes out there.

I still want to believe there’s a 33% chance that we trade with the Ravens for Brown.

I want there to be a zero percent chance for an Orlando trade.

No more big contracts!

I think the salary cap will be going up enough that it won’t be a big deal. And I can’t think of other big contracts we’ll have in the next year or two, other than possible extensions for Mathieu and Tyreek and they’re already big cap hits. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we move on from Clark next year.

Sure, but we can easily create more with a Mahomes conversion. And if a trade for Brown happens, his cap hit wouldn’t be big until 2023.

We should be poaching from other scouting departments, like the Ravens.

I’ve heard others with that opinion too. I’m not a film guy, so I have to defer to the experts. If Veach and Reid think he can, it’d be enough for me. My Ravens friend said Brown did a good job at LT for them the second half of last year.
