For a sport that is supposed to have a hard cap, Veach is making it look like this is the MLB.

@mellinger

Brett Veach, Brandt Tillis and Chris Shea are very good at what they do. But they are not actual wizards. They’ll have to manage the cap, but both with contract sizes and guys renegotiating to help they’re benefiting (and contributing to) a culture guys want to be part of.

Doubt many will see this, but I’ll repeat it in the future: Veach is becoming an excellent GM not because he’s brilliant at everything, but because he works very well indeed with his team of specialists. Is he good at some of the aspects, or all to at least some extent? Obviously, but he relies on his experts’ input to achieving the team’s ends.

This sort of thing requires a high degree of trust, and first and foremost that means honesty, a hallmark of the Reid Way. This is evident in how the players he’s extended have cooperated to make it happen, that wouldn’t have happened with someone like Dorsey.

I can think of someone who owes us a tattoo and how it should include a halo. Players who love both their HC and GM in droves, so much so that they want to stay in the system are not exactly common in the NFL. Move over, Darth Hoodie, there’s a new sheriff in town, one who leverages care and inclusion rather than rigid adherence to a system that will discard them when the numbers say so.

Chiefs did it again. Travis Kelce’s deal is another contract extension with a core player that’s light on the early cash flow. They’ll pay Kelce $9.25 million this year — the same as he was due before the extension. He gets $4.25 million added cash in ’21.

I had never come across this logic riddle before. There seems to be a few different versions of it, but all with the same principles. 100 green eyed people on an island, all who don’t know their own eye colour, and are not allowed to leave the island unless they have green eyes. They are told, “at least one of you has green eyes”

Even knowing the answer, and how to get to the answer it’s still extremely hard to understand. I had to read several explanations to ‘get it’, but it still hurts my head.

I didn’t explain the whole thing, but in the full riddle everyone is perfectly logical, can’t see their own eyes (no reflections), they can’t communicate, and if they try to leave without having green eyes they will be killed.

The hiccup is none know what green is. But if any of them has any since of logical reasoning they will see that everyone has the same color of eyes and therefore that must be green.

It’s not meant to be a trick, it’s purely a logic riddle.

“Imagine there’s an island where a mad dictator holds 100 people captive, and all of them are great mathematicians. They can’t escape, but there is one strange rule governing their captivity. At night, any prisoner is allowed to ask the guard for his freedom. If he has green eyes, he’ll be released, otherwise he’ll be dropped into a volcano.
It turns out that all 100 prisoners have green eyes. But they’ve all been living on the island since they were born, and the dictator has done all that he can to ensure that none of them will ever be able to find out what color eyes they have. There are no mirrors on the island, and all water visible to the prisoners is opaque – thus they cannot see their reflection. And most importantly, the prisoners are not allowed to communicate among themselves.
Nevertheless, they see each other at roll call every morning. Everybody knows that no one will dare ask for their freedom unless they are absolutely sure of their success. Under considerable pressure from human rights organizations, the dictator was forced to permit you to visit the island and speak to the prisoners, but only under the following conditions. You may only make one statement, and you can’t provide them with any new information. So how can you help the prisoners without breaking the agreement with the dictator?
After much thought, you tell the crowd: ‘At least one of you has green eyes’. The dictator is very suspicious, but he is sure your statement won’t change anything. You leave, and the life on the island seems to continue along its usual course. But one morning, 100 days after your visited, the island suddenly becomes empty – the previous night, all the prisoners asked to leave. So how did you manage to outsmart the dictator?”

I wasn’t implying that it was a trick. But it is a wrinkle to make you question your answer.

But to answer the riddle, if someone sees everyone with the same color eyes, they don’t need to know their own color to know they have green eyes. Either they are the same as everyone else and they all can leave, or they are the only outlier.

No thanks. I hate concerts as they are now, spreading stuff out more will be even worse. Concerts were far better when it was general admission and no chairs on the floor. If you could worm your way through the crowd you could get to the first 2 or 3 rows. Everybody was packed together. Your sweat was my sweat. The girl in front of me forcefully pushing her posterior region into my frontal pubic area. Never spoke to each other, but still had that moment. Joints being passed around, nobody knew where they came from, they just kept coming. Of course, I always had a handfull rolled and ready so I would light one and pass it too. But the point was, the biggest fans of a band could get to the front, where the band could feed off that energy and it made the whole show much more electric. That just dont happoen anymore. I feel really bad for anyone too young to remember that

general adminssion concerts have been gone a long time. Its all assigned seating and no open space on the floor in front of the stage, all chairs. The festivals are closest to the old school way, but they tend to be more spread out than the old basketball arena shows were. Cramming 10K in a arena designed to seat 5K with 5K expected to stand the whole show. Those were the days

Umm. The tax cuts are not the problem. Uncontrolled spending is. The Republicans relief plan was going to cost $1 trillion. The Democrats plan was $3 trillion.

I can only imagine what the debt will balloon to when they pass free healthcare and free education while planning to tax only the wealthy.

You know what is good about being wealthy? You can move wherever you want. They will only have to pay rich taxes for one year then they can all live on a beach in a low tax country while we search for the next teet to milk dry.

We can look at federal debt but it wildly understates total federal planned debt when you factor in future obligations in social security and Medicare. But even that’s a drop in the bucket compared to total government debt and obligations factoring in state and municipal debt and pensions.

Then you start considering corporate debt. Then personal debt. All of a sudden you realize the entire edifice of modern economy is built and sustained wholly by debt.

The federal debt doesn’t seem to matter much to many because of modern monetary theory. And that works for now because the money being printed is only propping up asset valuations so there’s no velocity in M2. But at the point they start printing to cover transfer payments, which will hit around the same time these asset owners start exiting assets for liquidity, the inflation will come and that will monetize the debt, strengthening the govt financial position while the people deal with Weimar level inflation destroying their savings and spending power.

Hopefully we have enough to crowdfund all the gallows we’ll need to build when that time comes.

And neither party gives a fuck. The GOP at least used to try to pretend they cared about spending, but they gave up that ghost in GWB times, possibly even before.

The key point is that the debt and usury is widely distributed and not merely a function of govt. And even if the public fisc was solvent and in order, an economy built on debt and consumption is careening towards oblivion. I’ll let the greatest literary mind of the 20th century, Ezra Pound, explain it in a way only pound could: With usura hath no man a house of good stone each block cut smooth and well fitting that design might cover their face, with usura hath no man a painted paradise on his church wall harpes et luz or where virgin receiveth message and halo projects from incision, with usura seeth no man Gonzaga his heirs and his concubines no picture is made to endure nor to live with but it is made to sell and sell quickly with usura, sin against nature, is thy bread ever more of stale rags is thy bread dry as paper, with no mountain wheat, no strong flour with usura the line grows thick with usura is no clear demarcation and no man can find site for his dwelling. Stonecutter is kept from his tone weaver is kept from his loom WITH USURA wool comes not to market sheep bringeth no gain with usura Usura is a murrain, usura blunteth the needle in the maid’s hand and stoppeth the spinner’s cunning. Pietro Lombardo came not by usura Duccio came not by usura nor Pier della Francesca; Zuan Bellin’ not by usura nor was ‘La Calunnia’ painted. Came not by usura Angelico; came not Ambrogio Praedis, Came no church of cut stone signed: Adamo me fecit. Not by usura St. Trophime Not by usura Saint Hilaire, Usura rusteth the chisel It rusteth the craft and the craftsman It gnaweth the thread in the loom None learneth to weave gold in her pattern; Azure hath a canker by usura; cramoisi is unbroidered Emerald findeth no Memling Usura slayeth the child in the womb It stayeth the young man’s courting It hath brought palsey to bed, lyeth between the young bride and her bridegroom CONTRA NATURAM… Read more »

I applaud your effort, but that was very hard to follow.

It is. Ezra Pound was so scholarly a man that his works are teeming with obscure references to all manner of religion, history, culture, etc. My companion to the cantos is a long as the cantos themselves. You would have to be fluent in a variety of languages to read some of his works where he seemlessly transitions between multiple tongues.

To clarify this one, usura is usury. And Pound includes the following footnote after the canto:

N.B. Usury: A charge for the use of purchasing power, levied without regard to production; often without regard to the possibilities of production. (Hence the failure of the Medici bank.)
