RED Friday Night Open Thread : Good Players on Bad Teams

Guys who had the misfortune to play on some really stinky Chiefs teams.
Tonight: Bill Maas
Bill Maas. DT. Two time Pro Bowler. 1984 AP DROY after being taken 5th overall. Maas was the first NT in our history to make a Pro Bowl. Had himself a nice little career on a bunch of teams that had good defenses and little else. On to a career in the booth, doing a good job there as well. Then, the incidents…. But let’s not dwell on those. Instead, let’s listen to Bill for a bit

I have a topic, all Carl Peterson team.Thoughts?
God, we could field a HOF team for players he pissed off, or let sign with other teams.
QB Gannon
WR Joe Horn
RT John Tait
DE Neil Smith
DE Jared Allen
LB Donnie Edwards
The all King Carl Team
I like that one, too
Not too mention, he was one of the first to take advantage of free agency. Marcus Allen, Dan Saleamua, Joe Phiilips,
That would be interesting. It was a relatively good stretch, lots of good players.
I like it. Do it!
Tomorrow…..maybe…
That’d be a good midweek feature. Maybe check with Brag for Tuesday or so? Better traffic for discussion
ME? LOL, you work here, remember
He’s always looking for new writers. Feature presentation! Your name in pixels!
Plus, ya know, your idea.
HA! When I googled him to get dates, this is how they described him:
Carl Peterson
American soccer manager
a year too late
This may interest Tony, and possibly Nas, as well. From the article:

Sorry to post this bummer here
cancer sucks
I hate hearing stuff like this. Cancer doesn’t care.
Burying one of your kids is one of the worst things to happen to parents, but I salute this young man for his optimism and endurance.
Crap
just brutal 🙁
Paying for some Bruce Springsteen tickets these days may be “Tougher Than The Rest.”
That’s because Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” has some seats reaching $4000 to $5000 a seat.
Makes Rip’s two Bills tix seem a bargain
Yup. I was fortunate to be selected as a verified fan which allowed me access to the presale for Tulsa. I was logged in and in the waiting room before the sale started at 10am, and at 10:05 the had already jumped in price to a ridiculous level.
I still bought behind the stage seats for $90each because I really want to be in the building at least once, but I am also invited to buy tix for his KC show. I hope I have better luck, or they fix that horseshit before then.
The dynamic pricing isn’t new. The Chiefs also have it in place for ticket sales. But the formula Ticketmaster uses for concerts is way messed up. I.E. Olivio Rodrigo had a concert my kids wanted to go to. They announced the front pit GA price as $69 prior to the on sale date. The amount of people that tried to get tickets the moment the sale started caused the ticket price to raise to $1,200.
And lest we forget Ticketmaster doesn’t have a flat fee per transaction. They charge 15% of the ticket price I think. They don’t do any extra work selling a $69 ticket than they do a $1,200 ticket, but they are going to charge you $170 more in fees.
ticketmaster sucks donkey balls
How do they get away with that? Pre-scalping the tickets? If they are $70, then sell them for that.
I’m gonna see agent orange in Sept for like 20 bucks. First time at a real show for me in like 4 years
Between Aug 27th and Oct 3rd, I will see 10 different shows.
damn…. where do you live (without doxxing yourself of course)
Joplin, MO area. I am putting a shit load of miles on my body getting to all the shows this year. For this calendar year I should see 30 concerts while traveling to:
MO: KC & STL (Joplin rarely pulls in any artists)
OK: Tulsa, Miami
KS: KC, Lawrence
AR: Rogers, Little Rock
TX: Arlington, Irving, Ft. Worth, Dallas
TN: Memphis

he aint happy bout it
Saw today that Victor Bolden signed with AZ . Kavonte Turpin is still unsigned. He was the USFL MVP a year ago. Profiles as Jakeem Grant. Very slight, but game breaking return ability, 4.31 speed. KC should bring him in for a tryout
Victor Bolden … who?
Kavonte Turpin … who??
Jakeem Grant … who???
Jakeem Grant is the only name that I recognized.
UPS hasn’t heard of him so he must be trash. Shrugs
6 career return TDs in 6 seasons for Grant. Pretty damn good if you ask me
Rip with tickets to the Bills game. All I can say is….

The Salary Cap SituationAs previously stated, the NFL is a business, and the salary cap is a real factor when building a team. The cap for the 2022 NFL season is $208.2 million, while the Over The Cap is projecting the 2023 NFL cap ceiling to be $225 million.
Also according to Over The Cap, with the projected $225 million cap ceiling, the Chiefs are projected to have around $16 million in cap space for 2023 with approximately 42 roster spots taken (after Joshua Williams signs his rookie contract). Chris Jones’ 2023 cap hit is scheduled to be about $27.04 million, with $20 million of that being base salary and a workout bonus.
Because 2023 is the final year of Jones’ current contract, the Chiefs (next offseason) will be unable to restructure his contract to push money down the road to save cap $ immediately. The only realistic way the Chiefs can reduce his cap hit is to A.) Release him and save $20 million or, B.) Trade him and also save $20 million or, C.) Extend his contract beyond 2023 and save anywhere from $5-15 million on the 2023 cap. (That depends on how the new extension is structured.)

Aaron Donald isn’t retiring, and he’s returning to a bank vault worth of cash.
The Los Angeles Rams restructured Donald’s contract to make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per a source. The team has since announced the news.
No new years were added to Donald’s contract, which now guarantees him $65 million over the next two seasons and $95 million through the 2024 season, Rapoport added. In all, Donald nets a $40 million raise over his previous contract, which carried a base salary of just $9.25 million into the 2022 season.
“I’m locked back in to go get us another ring — why not!?” Donald said upon signing his new contract. “Getting the chills thinking about it. Let’s go to work.”
whatever happened to “I’d play for free if they’d let me”
What happened to “I’m a multi-billionaire, so I don’t need the gobs of money my NFL team drags in”? That’s where the obscene “salary” level actually kicks in.
But hey, if you want to focus on the millions made by disposable employees and ignore the billions the CEOs make, I can’t stop you. For my part, I’m all for them negotiating to get as much as they can while they can. NFL=Not For Long
at $225M/team and 32 teams in the league, that’s $7,200M total = a bit over $7 BILLION …
The N.F.L. signed new media rights agreements with CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN and Amazon collectively worth about $110 billion over 11 years, nearly doubling the value of its previous contracts.
The contracts, which will take effect in 2023 and run through the 2033 season, will cement the N.F.L.’s status as the country’s most lucrative sports league. They will also set the stage for the league’s owners to make good on plans to expand the regular season to include a 17th game and charge more for broadcasting rights.
and “we” pay for a lot of those agreements … all of them, one way or another (even if you’re not a football fan, you pay)
The NFL also stands to make bank on the Sunday Ticket package starting next year. If they can sell 10 million units at $250 per, (and you know you will buy it, dont even lie), that’s another $2.5bil a year.
Professor
where is the missing 3 billion dollars per year going?

The likelihood that Chris Jones remains in a Chiefs uniform after the 2022 season is not very high. His $27 MIL contract does not fit well under the salary cap. Even if Jones stays, and George Karlaftis (picked in RD1 this year) pans out, the Chiefs are very thin on the defensive line. Look for GM Brett Veach to follow through on his promise to fix the D-Line in the 2023 draft.
The Chiefs should have 12 selections next year when the NFL Draft comes to KC!
~KCBudMan, Chiefs Analyst
with (currently) 12 picks, one would imagine Veach could finish the D-Line, O-Line, more for the Secondary and another coupla WRs and/or RBs (pretty much whatever he wants)
I should schedule a hotel for that weekend
the Hyatt would be awesome right across the street from Union Station
IS the IT department supposed to be helping us with new and improved that breaks tried and true?
seems I was able to do things via the company website with password and verification by phone…
Now I can’t cause my personal home desktop is not known to corporate IT, it was 2 weeks ago…
would likely be IT … doesn’t recognize your PC now, might be different IP address (they can change, depending on your service provider and other factors)
just as an IT guy, I don’t understand why I can access the network website via any device since it is password and verified by a second device….
that’s happened to me and I’ve never understood it … unless Arnie stopped by their office and “You’ve Just Been Erased”
The reason for that is the network websites are closed off to access from non network for security reasons. If it’s open to the wide web it can be hacked given enough time. Closing off access adds another layer of security. The only way to access a network website is if you VPN in
My bad Steve. I completely read your comment wrong. After a long shift reading comp goes way down 😂
She reminds me too much of Francesca Fiore from The Kids in the Hall.
Damn. She makes me look tan.
The first day of camp hasn’t been the same since Sausage retired.
Sherman…. He was awesome..
he was great!
agree
Andy Reid: I don’t know if Orlando Brown will be at training camp

Top 5 QB ratings in Madden 23:
1. Tom Brady-97
2. Aaron Rodgers-96
3. Patrick Mahomes-95
4. Josh Allen-92
5. Joe Burrow-90
I guess the GOAT is still the GOAT
The score is for current ability, not past accomplishments.
I’ll take Mahomes over all of them.
Yeah that ranking seems very odd as no one in their right mind thinks that current TB is at the top
Don’t sleep on my boy!
#1 receiver come September
where is EAFOX???
he needs to see this!
You guys need to R E L A X. It’s practice. When has he ever shown the focus to be a #1 WR. JuJu will be Patrick’s #1 target by the end of the year if he stays healthy.
Excluding Travis of course.
hardman will have more yards than juju — hands down!
Doubt it
It’s practice
I keep tryin’ to tell ’em that but will anyone listen?
Zulu? Listen?
I know, right?
