How do you determine good from bad? Is this fun or someone being indoctrinated?

Who decides? Should God pinch of someones head?

How totally childish are some people in their developement?

And as good a song as this is, IMO its the second weakest track on that album. When someone asks me what to listen to to hear what metal sounds like, that is the record I tell them to play.

Ok, I need AG’s help tonight. I think I might have made a new chiefs fan. Lady sent me a picture in a hard hat with stickers on it. My first response was where the hell is the Chief’s sticker at. She said if I send her one she will sport it at work. Let’s do it. What sticker? Open to any suggestions.

Great novel, but you’re setting yourself up to be disappointed by the film.

Don’t go in expecting a lot of action sequences. Dune examines human potentials, from the personal to the political. Herbert has a lot to say about the arts of leadership and ruling, intrigue and betrayal, though it’s a lot more show than tell, with a lot of explaining being done under the guise of training Paul to succeed his father as the Duke of House Atreides.

The book’s also chock-full of subtleties, from ways of communication to forms of assassination. It had much more drama and intrigue, etc, than action-adventure. And things are made more clear as the story progresses, so be ready to be a little patient, perhaps even staying open to letting things go until a planned second pass. I read and re-read Dune for years, and almost always found something interesting that I’d missed on previous passes.

I believe it was Arthur C. Clarke who said that sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic, when viewed from the low-tech side. Dune pushes hard along those lines, to great effect. It’s neither simple nor straightforward, but the “mysticism” involved is the result of pushing that boundary. It deserves its status of being one of the all-time iconic SF stories

Directed by Guy Ritchie too. I feel he doesn’t get his name mentioned very much in a positive way, but he has directed some great films.

Snatch, Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Gentlemen were all top notch.

But it wasn’t the Arthur story AT ALL. I thought it was comically bad. If you’re going to do King Arthur, why not try to actually tell the legend? The 80s movie Excalibur was awesome and incredibly corny at the same time and was at least faithful to the legend. After loving Sherlock Holmes, I was so excited to hear Ritchie was going to do Arthur.

For the draft, does anyone follow the RAS (Relative Athletic Score) numbers? I know it’s just one piece of the puzzle, but there’s a legit physical freak OT from Northern Iowa – Spencer Brown. He’s not a great player at this point – he’s considered a 2nd or 3rd rounder and has only played football a few years.

But the potential – wow! I believe RAS is done on a scale of 1-10 and is based on a player’s size and testing numbers. For comparison, two of the most recent physical marvels in the draft were Saquon Barkley and Myles Garrett. Saquon scored a 9.97 and Garrett was a 9.99.

Well….Spencer Brown actually got a 10.0. He’s huge 6’8″ (and a quarter) and evidently he’s pretty darn athletic. According to the write-ups I’ve seen, he’s a RT candidate, not LT.

I don’t delve too deep in the analytics terms. I read multiple breakdowns from many different “scouts”. I look at raw numbers and watch some highlights.

I disqualified him because of his inexperience. I think he could play LT though. An athlete like him could figure it out in a year, but we need someone for this season.

I generally don’t look at analytic stuff much either, but when I saw that someone scored a 10.0….and it was the best score of all OT (of course) EVER….well, it caught my attention.

I tend to agree with you about the inexperience. But if Veach thinks that he can get a one-year veteran solution OR that Brown could be coached up enough to play right away (long shot, I know)…..man, we’re talking about a truly generational talent, at least physically. And the one report that I read said that scouts raved about his character. At the very least, he’s tempting if we pass on OT in the 1st round and wait until the 2nd round to grab one.

I remember the last SPARQ freak I got really excited about us drafting was KPass. Sometimes the athleticism just doesn’t translate to the field.

I wouldn’t take Brown before the 4th.

I was just reading that he struggled at the Senior Bowl. Not a good sign to struggle vs the first good competition you’ve played against. (Although it also said that he had three offensive coordinators in three seasons, which kills development.)

In fairness to KPass, despite the fact that he never became a dominant player, he contributed some good pressure during our Super Bowl run. I’ll always be grateful for that.

KPass was a disappointment to me, but I still consider him a successful draft pick. He played out his whole contract and was an adequate player for us. Never a liability but rarely a standout. I wonder if he played under Spags his whole career would he have had a better developmental arc.

Agree 100%. I think I was actually more disappointed in his 2020 play than his 2017 or 2018. After a solid showing under Spags in 2019, I thought we might see a big step forward this past season; but unfortunately he seemed to regress.

Agreed. IMO Sutton ruined his initial development by bad management and neglect. That’s a hell of a thing to do to a man, simply because you stubbornly demand that a square peg fit itself into a round hole. Imagine if he’d been trained to develop his strengths from the get-go, rather than the focus being on things he didn’t do well, instead.

That decision’s on Sutton’s hands, and it’s not really forgivable.

I had a horrifying realization today, a name that absolutely works to parody Thunderstruck.

He’s a guy, in an oversized dragon su-uit (H-R!)
Got a friend who’s a magic talking flute (H-R!)
Gotta watch, just to see just what he would do-oo (H-R!)
And you know, that he’s right there for you

Turn on the tube, waitin’ for the start
For the drag, who just warms your heart

He was…
