a lot to unpack there, not a pun
Last night I was on another site reading a review of Moonkight, and there was this guy in the comments that was going on about how Hollywood was whitewashing Egyptians because they weren’t being portrayed as black skinned.
As someone who knows a lot of Egyptians personally, all I can say is
even in ancient days N Africans were mostly Mediterranean in feature.
Exactly. This person was also upset that Gal Gadot is playing Cleopatra. Never mind that Cleopatra was Greek 🤦♂️
fake outrage over a fictional representation meant as entertainment
I want to say it was and this guy was just being a troll, but the sad truth is there really are people like them. Absolute nutters that refuses to believe anything that isn’t their point of view.
I knew someone who was convinced that Abrahamic religion was false because there happened to be a Bethlehem in Pennsylvania and a Palestine in Texas.
Said person was also convinced that dihydrogen monoxide needed to be banned.
Homeschooling should be limited
American Gods (the book) would have made his head explode
There’s a Whole Political ” Wing ” Full of them … & Shhhomething … ; )
There’s two whole wings. And until the majority of this country realizes that our biggest problem is this “us vs them” mentality from both sides, nothing is going to change. We’ll just keep screaming that the other side is ruining everything for everyone
the extremes from both sides take up the bandwidth in discussion.
meanwhile one side is criminalizing miscarriages…
the middle has no voice outside the vote
No matter what side you are on, you can point to something that is wrong that the other side is doing. Taking the stance “my side my not always be right, but at least I’m not evil like the other side” is exactly my point. I’m not saying you have to accept these absolute bat shit crazy “abortion” laws, but there’s a fine line between taking a strong stance on an important issue and antagonizing the opposing view; and too many people are crossing that line, and that’s why things are getting worse, not better.
Very well said.
mostly agree, but batshit crazy and strong opposition are not equal.
and why put “abortion” in quotes, it is what they are about, no prevarication involved
save the baby, kill the mother makes no sense to me,,,
While I’m pro-choice, with the normal qualifications, this is not a case of “they”. To be blunt, going there is a cop-out. I dislike doing so, but I’m not in a mood to dance. Colbert bemoaned the fact that the SCOTUS ignored “the will of the people” on this issue.
To that, I say damn straight! Their job is not to please the masses, but to analyze things according to the law. Public opinion has no place in that equation. Leaving aside the serious, non-partisan criticism of RvW, over the years, this is not an end to all abortion rights nationwide. It just changes the contours, and while people will get hurt by the shift, others have gotten hurt as a secondary effect of the previous ruling.
There has to be a better way, And if so, sweeping aside faulty jurisprudence is a crucial first step. Besides, it’s obvious that Roe was flawed, because it never settled anything. Gay marriage? Settled, after an uncomfortable transition. That suggests there is a way, and TX’s insidious anti-abortion law is the product of decades of trying to hack through Roe, and each attempt had negative effects in other areas, as a consequence.
Left to their own devices, there’s no actual way to predict what any one will do, and just because a law may be enacted, it doesn’t mean it will pass constitutional muster, as those who write laws tend to not be very good at it.
I forgot to add that there are some long-standing SCOTUS rulings that need to be re-examined, at least. Qualified immunity, for one, given that there is no ratified law supporting it. Absolute immunity for the prosecution is another, and while it may have some vague basis in law, in cases of blatant misconduct, should it apply?
With the law, all is not as it seems, and if you’re getting your information from traditional media outlets, it’s the blind leading the blind, as they aren’t legal experts, and the experts they do consult are selected to stir things up, not keep the discussion on-topic. When it comes to reporting law and science, never trust people who majored in journalism, instead.
But Wait ! they’re ALL FOR CAPITAL PUNISHMENT !!! …
Shades of The 1619 Project. History by presentism.
Granted he was referring to ancient Egyptians, taking the stance that modern Egyptians are lighter due to Arab conquests, but it’s still just as ludicrous. You show ancient Egyptian art that shows depictions of very dark skinned people and lighter skinned people, while they depicted themselves as a more tan color, and people like this guy still claim that interpreting that as then being anything other than black skinned Africans is a whitewashing of history. I just can’t with these people
I’m sure everyone’s heard the new trope, that “speech is violence”, but I recently saw a protest graffiti regarding the leaked Dobbs draft, reading “silence is violence”. It’s a no-win scenario now, as between the two, you have to parrot the far Left’s orthodoxy, or you’re violently oppressing people. Fail to do so, and they will feel justified in using actual violence against you, and professor Hit Speaker With A Bike Lock demonstrated.
…people are a problem.
tonights game aint bad, the level of play seems to have improved in the USFL
dude just got knocked cold af
I suppose that’s better than knocked cold as ice…
Please give us a healthy Justyn Ross. I know a lot of teams had him off their boards completely but how are teams just OK with letting the Chiefs get a potential top 15 WR for peanuts? A team should have taken him in the 7th to stop this. Not that I am complaining.
very serious issues.
very serious risk. Hope he, and the team, are getting input from reliable/independent sources.
I wish him much success
His surgeon was a high-end NFL type, and Team Veach vets thoroughly. I’m optimistic, but nothing is without risk. I have more confidence in his recovery than I did The Fivehead’s return, as being young helps.
agreed, everyone makes their own risk/reward calculations
the rare cover better than the original.

I still don’t know how I feel about a DE wearing 56. Then again Ingram wore 24 last year and that was weird as hell.
Ukraiians love to blow up tanks and watch them cook off
SPGs aren’t exactly tanks, as they aren’t armored for direct-fire engagements, but a 152mm self-propelled howitzer is still something you don’t want firing at you, especially if you’re infantry. Tanks are armed as anti-vehicle platforms, not antipersonnel platforms, so these were still crucial kills for the Ukrainians.

Against the backdrop of the water crisis in the Colorado River Basin, where the country’s largest reservoirs are plunging at an alarming rate, California’s two largest reservoirs — Shasta Lake and Lake Oroville — are facing a similar struggle.

Years of low rainfall and snowpack and more intense heat waves have fed directly to the state’s multiyear, unrelenting drought conditions, rapidly draining statewide reservoirs. And according to this week’s report from the US Drought Monitor, the two major reservoirs are at “critically low levels” at the point of the year when they should be the highest.
Drought expands in the Southwest, worsening the region’s fire risk and water crisis
This week, Shasta Lake is only at 40% of its total capacity, the lowest it has ever been at the start of May since record-keeping began in 1977. Meanwhile, further south, Lake Oroville is at 55% of its capacity, which is 70% of where it should be around this time on average.

forget it Jake, it’s Chinatown
There are always going to be places that are going to be drier than others. California population is unsustainable due to its climate and they are hurting the rest of the west because too many people can’t accept that fact.
Funny
hahhahahahah
Bring it!
“It is kind of early to talk about it,” Chenal said. “Just learning a new scheme, I came out of a 3-4, this is a 4-3. So always just be willing to be open, ask a ton of questions, take a ton of notes. Every single guy in here is taking as many notes as they can, you know we’re all fighting for a spot. But yeah, I’m still learning how things go here

Chiefs report Bryan Cook (shoulder), WR Skyy Moore (hamstring) and WR Cornell Powell (hamstring) may be limited during the rookie minicamp.
Does Powell want to play football?
Powell was selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft but passed through waivers unclaimed after he failed to land a spot on the 53-man roster. He recorded 882 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season at Clemson and will remain with the Chiefs as part of the team’s initial practice squad.

Leo Chenal said he will be taking repetitions this weekend at the middle linebacker position. The Chiefs have told him they envision him as the strongside guy, but he could be the primary backup in the middle.
makes total sense
“Violence and physicality man. That’s it!” the former Wisconsin Badger declared to the crowd — which roared with delight. “I’m addicted to hitting people. I love it! I can’t get enough.”
Not a business decision to be made with this new group. Veach said to hell with this finesse bullshit and went out and got guys who crave contact.
